ok i have to come clean, i misheard that song in the beginning, i thought he said "i want more than i can give" (very asexual mood) and since then, this song has been catalogued in my brain as an asexual song. it's just about wanting everything and knowing that you're asking too much and being unreasonable but still wanting it! and being frustrated and saying no i don't want to wait for my ship to come in whatever that means i want it NOW!!!!! and sometimes you have to embrace feeling like this. everybody say thank you Ian McCulloch

Yes i put the little outro as my favourite lyric, cause i think it embodies the vibe of the song and the whole album. it really feels like kali uchis is having fun, and inviting you to have fun with her for a moment. this song is THE funnest of the album instant great mood i loveeeeeee it

this song makes me SOB hello!!!!!!!!! it's about a guy that has a deep desire and even need to roam, but he promises the person he's singing to that even though he thinks nothing in the world is more beautiful than the road, he is CHOOSING TO STAY FOR THEM!!!!!!! i loveeee that the relationship doesn't change the fact that he's crazing this level of freedom, he is actively choosing to stay. and he doesn't even promise forever, he just says ou can go to sleep easy tonight, i'll be here tomorrow. ahhhhhh it's soooo beautiful mr van zandt how do you do this every song!!!!!!!!!!

I know Declan wrote this song about feeling stuck in his career and like people aren't responding to what he's trying to do and the toll it's taking on him but! he also wrote it about me this year i know. he told me. a LOT of stuff didn't go my way for the first two thirds of this year, and i was CONSTANTLY trying to fix myself, and NOTHING WORKED!!!!!!! very cathartic song

THIS SONG IS GONNA MAKE ME CRY!!!! i think i'm forever gonna think about my roommates whenever i listen to this song like what do you mean!!! it's so cute and domestic!! it's just about wanting to come home to somebody and getting fulfillment from doing everyday chores cause you're doing them for someone you love or even with them!! i love it!!!!!

13. Morning Pages - The Japanese House & MUNA

i've talked about this song already but i just really love it. honestly, the whole album feels so coherent that it almost feels like one song for me, with the back to back of Over There and this one being my favourite part. it feels so personal and vulnerable even though it doesn't put shocking emotions bare, it remains soft while being emotional i reallyyyyyy like the way this whole album deals with emotion!

Ok listen i'll be fully honest i have no clue what this song is about. it's not that i don't understand the words exactly, but i feel like they're not registering? in my brain? anyway the song is great and the production fucks so!!

This is just an amazing pump up song. I like to blast this song whenever i experience any small victory OR whenever i really need a win. it works perfectly in both cases. the production is very 90s in a way that i find comforting and the video is fucking AMAZING seriously it's so fun in the way that Nathy's aesthetic always is <33

HELLO!!!!!!! I chose the first line cause it feels dishonest to chose any one out of the song's context and cause it is honestly a perfect glimpse into what the song is about. easily top 5 most cathartic songs ever. god it's a banger. songs that will get you so incredibly hype you will have to do everything in your power to restrain from punching a stranger on the street. no but more seriously. Megan was so disrespected? by the industry, by her peers, by people in her life, by strangers on the internet... and in this song, she manages the incredible feat of completely anihilating them while also coming out as the bigger person. insane lyricism. god i love this song. thank you for giving me the drive necessary to walk home from work mad as hell as one in the morning. everybody say thank you Megan.

17. They Don't Know How To Fall In Place - The Lemon Twigs

The Lemon Twigs are such a fun band... Genuinely i'm so glad they exist and they have decided to make fun sixties style slightly psychedelic pop music in the modern day cause they are so incredibly good at it! This song is a great example of their style, but the whole album is honestly amazing and extremely cohesive! Give it a listen!!

20. Cardinal - Kacey Musgraves

This song is a lot more folk inspired than Kacey's previous music (honestly the whole album is pretty folk inspired) and i think it works great! It's very contemplative in mood, melancholic but not sad, which goes well with the subject matter of seeing a bird and it reminding you of a friend that passed away.

19. Funk Rave - Anitta

"No voy a escuchar si no es pa' pagarme"

Incredibly different moods lmao. This is just a banger honestly. About partying and being rich and not giving a fuck. the video is also part of a 3 part video for her mini album Favela Love Story and these videos are just so fun!!! This song is just a great time. I got into funk carioca this year and even though Anitta is very much not an entirely funk artist, this mini album was a very fun entry point into the genre for me!

LIKE GIRL!!!! This song is such a beautiful, nuanced exploration of the mother daughter relationship, of the ways that a woman's place in the world influences the opinion a young girl has of her mother, of Joni's personal relationship with motherhood....... it's seemingly very simple but genuinely so profound..... probably my favourite song of hers!!

21. Will Anybody Ever Love Me? - Sufjan Stevens

OOF. this is truly 12 days of my year in music SAD edition. but this song... i can't even describe the emotional effect it has on me cause so much of it is due to the instrumentation also, but one thing about it is it's so vulnerable and raw. i think, when dealing with such huge, melodramatic, almost childish emotions as the one described in the title, songwriters will often turn to metaphore, for fear of being too obvious. sufjan himself is an EXTREMELY mataphoric and lyrical writer, and most of this song is composed of complex images, as his songs always are. but when he breaks into the chorus, all this ornamentation walls away and he reveals the one true question at the core of the song and it's so raw and it works!!! and the instrumentation backs it up so well!!!!! ahhhhh such a beautiful song please just listen to it!!!!!!!!!!!

24. Let's Get Lost - Carly Rae Jepsen

I listened to this song a bunch as i was going on dates for the first time this summer, and even though it never went anywhere with any of those guys, it still felt so nice to walk away from a date all smiley and happy with this song playing in my ears. i can only hope one day i get in a relationship as cute and sunshine-y as this song feels :)))

23. SOUND OF LETTING GO - Orla Gartland

"That's the sound of letting go and man, does it feel so good"

Truthfully i don't think i've spent enough time with this song to develop a deep attachment to the lyrics. But i've been keeping it on repeat cause the production of it and the melody are fantastic. a true banger. honestly most of the album is!! it's so catchy and fun and unique... i will definitely listen to it even more in the coming year!

Honestly, a majority of songs on my wrapped could be considered "film soundtrack" songs considering a lot of them are on a mood-board playlist for a film idea of mine. I'd consider this one the biggest contender though.
