Update on Chapter 5

So after a few rounds of editing, I've ended up with more words rather than less. =.= To keep chapter lengths regular, and to allow each beat to have its moment, I'm splitting it up to become two separate chapters.

On the plus side, this means I will be able to post Chapter 5 on time like I was hoping. On the down side, I've a new chapter that contains all the parts I feel less confident about. I don't want to spoil anything, but let's just say I've never written a scene like this, so there's some extra pressure (all from me) to get it right. But not to worry! I now have extra time to edit it, so unless something catastrophic happens why am i putting that out in the universe Chapter 6 will come out on time as well.

My fic crossed the 10k word mark! That's some good feelings, right there. Makes me feel justified for breaking it up into chapters rather than waiting to post it as one big thing, which is what I would have wanted as a reader.

English has different words for mouse and rat but in Chinese they're both the same creature (laoshu) so I asked my mom well how do you differentiate between mice and rats. She, clearly having never felt the need to do so, was like uhh big laoshu and little laoshu I guess. Then I went online to see how the difference between (the English words) "mouse" and "rat" was being explained to CN->EN learners and there are numerous articles delving deep into the analysis. Bigger vs smaller, indoors vs outdoors, cute and favorable connotations vs evil and ugly, tail length, fear factor, emphasis on the fact that you cannot call it a "computer rat." Much thought is being expended on this little mystery of the English language
