History
Mebane was named after Brigadier General Alexander Mebane of the North Carolina Militia. He was an American Revolutionary War general and member of the U.S. Congress in the 1790s. In 1855, the railroad arrived in Mebane and in 1881, it was incorporated as the town of Mebanesville. The name was officially changed to Mebane in 1883 and incorporated as a city in 1987. It is known as a furniture town, a mattress town, a mill town, and a railroad town. Mebane is one of the fastest-growing municipalities in North Carolina. It is also fondly known as The Biggest Little Town on Earth.

Man found shot dead in Mebane, deputies investigating
MEBANE, N.C. — Alamance County deputies are investigating after a man was shot to death in Mebane. Deputies arrived at Shady Grove Mobile Home Park at 11:23 a.m. on Tuesday. Investigators arrived on the scene shortly after they arrived. They found Ryan Hogan, 22, shot dead on the scene. An eyewitness said they saw an older burgundy Honda Accord park near his home. According to eyewitness, they saw a late model burgundy Honda Accord park near the victim's home before the incident. Two men alighted and headed towards the crime scene. They then heard two loud bangs or gunshots. The two suspected men were able to get back into the car and speed off. Alamance County deputies arrived at the scene at around 11:23 a.m. followed immediately by investigators.
