Housamo 2017 Christmas Event, first half of Story 1a

Recently, the Housamo people announced that the main story quests (for the currently released chapters 1-6, at least) are going to have an English translation in game. As a result, I’m focusing on the event quests that are outside the main story. Please forgive me, I’ll be starting with the current special event instead of going back to try the earlier ones.

For some reason, the quests are labeled like 1a, 1b, 2a, 2b, etc. This post is the first half of 1a. Sorry, there’s a TON of screengrabs, and I’m really bad at this, so I’m tackling it in pieces.

Please accept this first batch--88 screenshots, representing the first half of the introductory quest 1a.

マリア：　リョウタ様。。。！　いけません！　私はあの方たちにお話がーーー Maria: Ryouta-sama! Ikemasen! Watashi wa ano houtachi ni o-hanashi ga--- Maria: Sir Ryouta! I can't go on! I can speak with them--

リョウタ：　そんなこと言ってる場合じゃないよーう！　とにかく走って走って！　ハリーアップゥッ！！ Ryouta: sonnakoto itteru ba'ai janai you! Tonikaku hashitte hashitte! Harii Appuuuuuu!! Ryouta: Now's not the time to say your case! Anyway, run, run! HURRY UP!!

ーーー　暮れも押し迫った、 12月のある晩。 --- kure mo oshisematta, 12-tsuki no aru ban Nightfall was also imminent, one December evening

* I'm not sure if it's haki-nagara or tsuki-nagara. The verb 吐く has two readings, tsuku and haku--and they both have to do with breathing, or vomiting, or expressing a lie/thought.

もう数度目の角を曲がったところでーーー Mou suudome no tsuno o magatta tokoro de [Light, I have no idea. I think something like "after rounding a few more corners..."]

リョウタ：　－し、　しまったぁっ！　袋小路だぁ！　今すぐ戻って！　Uターン！ Ryouta: --shi, shimattaaaa! Hukurokouji daaa! Ima sugu modotte! U-TAAN! Ryouta: --d, dang iiiit! It's a dead eeeeeeend. Immediate retreat! U-TURN!

マリア：　リョウタ様。　そのような時間はないようです。 Maria: Ryouta-sama. Sono youna jikan wa nai you desu Maria: Sir Ryouta. This doesn't seem like the time for that

巻き込んでしまい、　申し訳ありません。 Makikonde shimai, moushiwake arimasen. You got involved in this... I'm terribly sorry

リョウタ：　だ、　大丈夫だよ！　な、なんとかなるなるっ。 Ryouta: da, daijoubu da yo! Na, nantoka naru naruuu Ryouta: I-It's okay! Th-that's just how it happened is all....

。。。　「アプリ」さえあれば、　まだなんとかなったのに。 ... 'apuri' sae areba, mada nantoka nattanoni. [I *think* he's saying "if I only had the (summoning) app on my phone, I could do something (to help us out)"...]

ごろつき：　へへ。。。　やっと捕まえたぜ？ Gorotsuki: heh heh... yatto tsukamaeta ze? Thugs: heh heh... ya finally got it?

往生際が悪いんだよ、　てめぇら！ Oujougiwa ga warui-n dayo, temee-ra! Y'all don't know when to give up!

["temee" is an offensive word for "you", while the "-ra" at the end makes it refer to a plural you instead of singular, I guess much like adding "-tachi"? I guess this is that slang or dialect thing that my About Page warns you that I'm trash it. Please be gentle with me! ]

[Note: throughout this scene, there are three thugs. Sometimes only one of the three is pictured as speaking, and it rotates between them, but... they don't matter enough to worry about which one is speaking at which time]

マリア：　。。。。。。。ㇱ！ Maria: ....... shi! [Is that tiny "shi" supposed to be the start of a word, or just a generic gasp or something? I refuse to deal with Japanese onomatopoeia right now so please overlook this]

リョウタ：　ま、　マリアちゃん？　危ないよ！　ねえ、　ちょっとーーー Ryouta: Ma... Maria-chan? Abunai yo! Nee, chotto... Ryouta: Ma-Maria? It's dangerous! Hey, wait...

マリア：　貴方がたですね。　我が校の生徒たちに暴行を働き、 Maria: Anata gatadesu ne. Wagakou no seito-tachi ni boukou wo hataraki, Maria: It was you, huh. Assaulting the students of our school,

あまつさえ金銭を略奪するという方々は。 amatsusae kinsen o ryakudatsu suru to iu katagata wa. and robbing their money... you're the people who have done that.

[Sorry, this translates a little awkwardly if I divide it line by line. Maybe in this case, I should have left it all together. Google Translate renders the full sentence as "The people who have assaulted our school's students and plundered (their) money"...]

マリア：　即刻、　そのような行いを反省しーーー

Maria: Sokkoku, sono youna okonai o hansei shi Maria: Immediately, reflect upon those actions---

被害に遭われた方に、　謝罪を。 higai ni awa reta kata ni, shazai o. and those who were brought to harm, apologize to them.

リョウタ：　だ、　ダメだよマリアちゃん！　「アプリ」が入ったスマホ。。。　なくしちゃってるんだよ？ Ryouta: da, dame dayo Maria-chan! "Apuri" ga haitta sumaho... nakushi chatteru-n dayo?* Ryouta: I-It's no use Maria! My smartphone with the app... I can't find it?

["nakushi chatteru-n dayo"... I have no idea how this works. Google Translate suggests "You lost it?", and I kind of believe it when it comes to verb identification. But trying to look that up on jisho.org word by word, it's... confusing]

リョウタ：　怪我をしてま、　癒すこともできない。　いつものようにはいかないんだ！ Ryouta: Kega o shite ma*, iyasukoto mo dekinai. Itsumo no you niwa ikanai-n da! Ryouta: If we get injured, we won't be able to get healed up. It's not gonna go like it usually does!

[What does this "ma" phrase-ending mean? From the next sentence, I'm assuming it's a particle indicating a conditional "if", as opposed to being a part of the previous verb "shite", but... I really have no idea]

マリア：　いいえ、　リョウタ様。　罪を重ねる方々を、　見捨てるわけにはまいりません。 Maria: Iie, Ryouta-sama. Tsumi o kasaneru katagata o, misuteru wake niwa mairimasen. Maria: No, Sir Ryouta. The people who pile up their sins... I can't allow myself to abandon them.

ごろつき：　は、　迫力のある女だな���。。　人聞きの悪いこと言うなよ、　嬢ちゃん。 Gorotsuki: Ha, hakuryoku no aru onna da na... hitogiki no warui koto iu na yo, jouchan. Thugs: Wh-What strong force this woman has... don't say such bad things about people, young miss.

ごろつき：　オレたちはただ、　身の程を教えてやってるだけよ。 Gorotsuki: Oretachi wa tada, minohodo o oshiete yatteru dake yo Thugs: We're nothing special, simply showing you your place

チャラチャラ金目の物を持ち歩くまんじゃねえってことをな Chara-chara kaneme no mono o mochiarukuma-n janettekoto o na You shouldn't be carrying around such unnecessary valuables

マリア：　ーーーそのようなことㇱ！！ Maria: ---sono you na koto-!! Maria: ... that sort of thing...!!

ずいっとマリアが距離を詰めると、　ごろつきのひとりが、　彼女の腕を掴んだ。 Zuitto Maria ga kyori o tsumeru to, gorotsuki no hitori ga, kanojo no ude o tsukanda. When Maria had almost closed the distance between them, one of the thugs grabbed her arm.

ごろつき：　おぉ、　こえぇ。　まったく、　気の強え女だ。　 Gorotsuki: Oo, koee. Mattaku, ki no tsuyo e onnada. Thugs: Ohh, look here. For sure, you're a strong-spirited gal.

「アプリ」も無しに、　敵うとでも思ってんのか！　アァ！？ "Apuri" mo nashi ni, kanau to demo omotten no ka! Aa!? Without your app, do you really think you stand a threat as our enemy? Huh!?

マリア： くっ。。。　お離しなさい！ Maria: Ku... ohanashinasai! Maria: Guh... Unhand me!

リョウタ：　マ、　マリアちゃん！　うわあああ！　その手を、　離せぇぇっ！ Ryouta: Ma, Maria-chan! Uwaaaa! Sono te o, hanaseeeee-! Ryouta: Ma-Maria! Wowowowow! Get your hands ooooffffff!

なんとかしようと突進したリョウタだが、　あっさりかわされ、　地面に突っ伏してしまう。 Nantoka shiyou to tosshin shita Ryouta daga, assari kawasare*, jimen ni tsuppushite shimau. Ryouta rushed forward to do something, but something got in the way, and he fell to the ground

[I have literally no idea what "assari kawasare" is. When you put the full sentence here into Google, it suggests something like "but it was bothered". In isolation, Google has zero idea what to do with it. I'm just guessing]

ごろつき：　ハッ、　こいつにも身の程ってのを、　分からせてやる必要がありそうだ。。。なぁ！ Gorotsuki: Haa, koitsu nimo minohodo tte no o, wakarasete yaru hitsuyou ga ari soda... naa! Thugs: Heh, this guy too--seems like we need to make him understand, too, ehhh?

リョウタ： [PlayerName]... 委員長, ケンゴ。。。！ Ryouta: [PlayerName]... iinchou, Kengo...! Ryouta: [PlayerName]... Class Rep, Kengo...!

[委員長 (iinochou) is part of Shirou's in-game title]

リョウタ： 。。。　助けてㇱ。。。！！ Ryouta: ... tasukete...!! Ryouta: ... help...!!!

[calling your name with their last breath, your friend then perished the end </GrimHousamoAU>]

ごろつき：　ん。。。？何の音だ。。。？　鐘の音か？　これだからクリスマスってのは。。。 Gorotsuki: n...? Nan-no oto da...? Kane-no ne ka? Koredakara Kurisumasu tte no wa... Thugs: eh...? What's that sound...?  A bell's tone? It is Christmas, though...

ごろつき：　おい、　どんどん近づいてくるぞ！　なんだ。。。？　寒気。。。？ Gorotsuki: Oi, dondon chikadzuite kuru zo! Nan da...? Samuke...? Thugs: Hey, it's steadily getting closer! What is...? A chill...?

ごろつき：　な、　な、　な、　なんか出たァㇱ！？ Gorotsuki: na, na, na, nanka detaaaa!? Thugs: S-s-s-s-something came out!?

ごろつき：　何だァ。。。　テメェ？　こいつらの仲間か？　助けにでも来たのかよ。 Gorotsuki: Nan daa... temee? Koitsu-ra no nakama ka? Tasuke ni demo kita no ka yo. Thugs: What... this bastard right here? You friends with these guys? You come ta help them?

そこに立っていたのはーーー　「PlayerName]でも、　シロウでも、　ケンゴでもない。 Soko ni tatte ita no wa--- [PlayerName] demo, Shirou demo, Kengo demo nai. But the one standing there... it wasn't [PlayerName], nor Shirou, nor Kengo.

漆黒の毛に覆われたーーー　武骨な風貌の獣人。 Shikkoku no ke ni owareta--- bukotsuna fuubou no kemonohito Covered in jet black fur--- an rough-looking beastman

筋骨隆々とした肉体に刻まれた、　痛々しい傷跡。 Kinkotsu ryuuryuu to shita nikutai ni kizamareta, itaitashii kizuato Carved into their body that overflowed with chisled muscles: painful scars.

深々と被ったフードの下からは、　ギロリと大きな目玉が、　こちらを睨む。 Fukabuka to kabutta huudo no shita kara wa, girori* to ookina medama ga, kochira o niramu Silently from beneath their hood, their huge staring eyes glared out.

[I can't directly translate ギロリ (girori). Jisho.org thinks it might be a form of ぎょろり (gyorori), meaning staring or glaring? I'm inclined to believe it]

ブラックサンタ？：　お前らは。。。　「悪い子」だな？ Burakku Santa?: Omaera wa... "warui ko" dana? Black Santa?: You guys... are you "naughty children"?

["Omae" is a rude form of "you" (though less rude than the "temee" the thugs used in part 33?)]

ごろつき： 質問に質問返してじゃねーぞ！　こっちの質問に答えろコラァㇱ！ Gorotsuki: Shitsumon ni shitsumon kaeshite ja nee-zo! Kocchi no shitsumon ni kotaero kora! Thugs: Don't respond to our question with another question! You answer our frakkin' question!

[I think the final コラ (kora) there is a meaningless interjection, like "hey!" or "yo!"]

ブラックサンタ？： 「悪いの子」－－－なんだな？ Burakku Santa?: "Warui ko"---nan da yo? Black Santa?: "Naughty child"---what is it?

ごろつき：　この感じ、　何処かで。。。？　わっ。。。　「悪い子」なら、　どうだってんだよ！

Gorotsuki: Kono kanji, dokoka de...? Wa... "warui ko" nara, dou datte-n da yo! Thugs: This feeling, somewhere...? I-If you're saying "naughty children", just what do you mean?

ブラックサンタ？： 　。。。そうだよなぁ。　「悪い子」に決まってる。 Burakku Santa?: ... sou da yo naa~. "warui ko" ni kimatteru. Black Santa?: ... yes indeed. It's settled: you're "naughty children"

抵抗しない者をいたぶり、　暴行を加えようする連中がーーー Teiko shinaimono o itaburi, boukou o kuwaeyou suru renchuu ga Your gang, who committed assault against people who did not resist--

ブラックサンタ？： ーーー　まかり間違っても、　「いい子」なわけがない。 Burakku Santa?: --- makari machigatte mo, [ii ko] wake ga nai. Black Santa?: --- if you continue to go wrong, you can't be "nice children".

ごろつき：　だっ。。。　だから！　どうすんだって、　訊いてんだろうが！ Gorotsuki: Da--dakara! Dou sun datte, kiite-n darou ga! Thugs: S-So what! Whatever you do, I don't care!

ブラックサンタ？：　どうする？　決まっているだろう。　 Burakku Santa?: Dou suru? Kimatte irudarou. Black Santa?: What will I do? It will be decided.

クリスマスの訪わは、　裁きの時の訪わでもある。 Kurisumasu no otonawa wa, sabaki no toki no otonawa demo aru. Christmas visits are also Judgment Time visits.

ブラックサンタ？： すべての子供は、　聖なる者の審判を受け、　「良い子」と「悪い子」に分別される。 Burakku Santa?: Subete no kodomo wa, seinarumono no shinpan o uke, "ii ko" to "warui ko" ni bunbetsusareru. Black Santa?: Every child receives the saints' judgment, divided into "Naughty" and "Nice"

ブラックサンタ？： 「良い子」には、　惜しめない祝福を以て、　その褒美が与えられるがーーー Burakku Santa?: "ii ko" niwa, oshimenai shukufuku o motte, sono houbi ga ataerareruga---. Black Santa?: To good children, generous blessings and rewards are given...

厳格にして無慈悲な「罰」が与えられる genkaku ni shite mujihina "batsu" ga ataeraeru. and a strictly merciless "punishment" are given.

ブラックサンタ？： オレの仕事は、　聖人の従者に成り代わり、 Burakku Santa?: Ore no shigoto wa, seijin no juusha ni narikawari, Black Santa?: ~My~ job is, as a follower of the saint,

「悪い子」に相応の「罰」を与える事 "warui ko" ni souou no "batsu" o ataerukoto. to give an appropriate punishment to naughty children.

ブラックサンタ？： ヒャァーーㇱハㇱハㇱハㇱハ！！　覚悟はできてんだろうな、　悪ガキ共ォッ！！ Burakku Santa?: Hyaa-ha-ha-ha-ha!! Kakugo wa dekite-n darou na, aki gakidomoooo!! Black Santa?: Hyahahahahahaha!! You should prepare for it, naughty brats!

ブラックサンタ？： テメェらに与える、　オレからの「罰」は、　 Burakku Santa?: Temee-ra ni ataeru, ore kara no "batsu" wa, Black Santa?:  The "penalty" I'm giving you bastards--

灰袋でパンパン叩くなんて生易しいモンじゃねェぞ！？ hainukuro de panpan-tataku nante namayashii mon ja nee zo!? --beating you with ash bags would be easy, yeah?

[The ending 生易しいモンじゃねェぞ (namayashii mon ja nee zo)... I have no idea what that is. In isolation, "namayashii" is "simple/easy"... but I don't know what that katakana モン (mon) is, so I'm guessing at how this "beating you like a drum with my bags" sentence is ending]

ブラックサンタ？： ��獄行きにも等しい、　この爪による洗礼ーーー　受けさせてやるぜェッ！！ Burakku Santa?: Jigoku iki ni mo hitoshii, kono tsume ni yoru seneri --- uke sasete yaru ze!! Black Santa?: It'll be like going into hell. This baptism by my claws ---　I'll let you receive it!!

ごろつき： はっ！？　な、　何だこいつ！！　急にキャラが変わりやがったぁぁぁぁっ！？ Gorotsuki: Haa!? Na, nanda koitsu!! Kyuu ni kyara ga kawari ya gatta Thugs: Huh!? Wh-what's with this guy!? Suddenly his character has changed!?

ごろつき： か、　鉤爪を装備してやがる！　コイツ、　ヤベェよ！　は、　はやく逃げッ。。。！ Gorotsuki: Ka, kagidzume o soubi shite yagaru! Koitsu, yabe yo! Ha, hayaku nige...! Thugs: H-He's got claw equipment! This guy--he's dangerous! Q-quick, run away...!

ブラックサンタ？： 逃がすかよォッ！！　喰らいやがれ。。。 Burakku Santa?: Nigasu ka yo!! Kurai yagare... Black Santa?:  Running away, eh? I'm gonna devour you--

[喰らい (kurai) uses an irregular kanji 喰. It looks close to 食 (from taberu, for example), and apparently has similar meanings--to the point that searching on Jisho for "喰 kurai" brings up results for its partner 食 as well.]

ブラックサンタ？： 「振鐘」必罰、　デア・ヴィルデマン！！ Burakku Santa?: [See note below] hitsubatsu, Dea Virude Man!! Black Santa?: "Swinging Bell" inevitable punishment: Der Wilde Mann!

[Note 1: "Der Wilde Mann" is his in-game charge skill.]

[Note 2: The furigana over the 「skill name」 reads "Shinshou". This renders the entire thing as "Shinshou Hitsubatsu", for "sure punishment or reward". However, the kanji for that phrase is 信賞必罰. But they've kept just the "sure punishment" last two kanji. The first two were swapped out for 「振鐘」--which, near as I can figure, is "swinging bell"? Maybe "fu-kane"? Months ago, I started translating the first chapter, and I remember Housamo doing this a bit. They'd provide kanji with one meaning, but then give furigana that didn't actually match the literal kanji, though it would provide insight into the meaning...

Anyway, there you go. They're referencing the phrase for "sure punishment or reward", but pulling out the kanji for Faith 信 and Reward 賞, to replace them with the kanji for Swing 振 and Bell 鐘. Whatever. Focus on how cool this guy looks in his 4-star form, and ignore the weird linguistic stuff]

黒き鉤爪が空を切り裂く。　そして切り裂かれた者はーーー Kuroki kagidazume ga sora o kirisaku. Soshite kirisaka retamono wa Black claws cut through the sky. And then, the people who were thus cut--

ごろつき：　うううう、　うわぁぁぁぁぁっ！　こわいっ！　やめろ！　くるんじゃねぇっ！ Gorotsuki: Uuuu, uwaaaaaaa! Kowaii! Yamero! Kuru-n ja neeee! Thugs: Aaaaahhhhhh! Scary! Stop! Don't come near us!

その場でガタガタと震えだし、　その顔は恐怖で歪む。 Sono bade gatagata to furudashi, sono gao wa kyoufu de yugamu. They trembled in place, their faces twisted in fear.

戦意を喪失しているのは明らかだ。 Sen'i  wo soushitsu shite iru nowa akirakada. It was clear that they had lost their fighting spirit.

リョウタ：　えっ、　なに。。。！？　あの人が。。。　僕たちを助けてくれたの？ Ryouta: Ee, nani...!? Ano hito ga... boku-tachi o tasukete kureta no? Ryouta? Eh, what...!? That person... did they help us?

マリア：　リョウタ様っ、　ご無事ですか？　あの方��いったい。。。 Maria: Ryouta-sama, go-buji desu ka? Ano hou wa ittai... Maria: Sir Ryouta, are you alright? Who is that person...

ブラックサンタ？： ケケケッ。。。　どうだ、　オレ様の「爪」の味はよォ？ Burakku Santa?: Kekeke... dou da, ore-sama no "tsume" no aji wa yo-? Black Santa?:  Kekeke... how is it, the taste of my "claws"?

震えるだろ？　こえぇだろ？　恐怖に泣き叫んだろォ！？ Furueru daro? Koe daro? Kyoufu ni nakisake-n darou!? Does it make you tremble? Huh? You screamed in fear, didn't you?

ブラックサンタ？： だったら誓いな、　悪ガキども。　もう、　悪いコトはしねェっ。。。てな？ Burakku Santa?: Dattara chikaina, aku gakidomo. Mou, warui-koto wa shineee.... te na? Black Santa?: In that case, swear, you evil brats. Say that you're sorry for your bad actions.

[Super uncertain about this one >< Bloody manga-style dialogue. I think he's asking them to swear off doing bad things, but I can't really translate it at a granular level...]

ごろつき：　はい、　しません！　わるいことは、　ぜったいしませぇぇーーーん！ Gorotsuki: Hai, shimasen! Warui-koto wa, zettai shimaseeeeeeeeeeeen! Thugs: Yes, we won't do them! Those bad things, we won't do theeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeem!

ごろつき：　だから、　ゆるして！　ゆるしてくださいっ！　つめは。。。　つめはやめてェッ。。。！！ Gorotsuki: Dakara, yurushite! Yurushite kudasai! Tsume wa... tsume wa yameteeeeee...!! Thugs: Based on that, forgive us! Please forgive us! Those claws... please stop your claaaaawas...!!

ブラックサンタ？： よろしい！　わかったなら解散！　とっとと家帰って寝やがれッ！　Go!! Burakku Santa?: Yoroshii! Wakattanara kaisan! Tottoto ie kaette ne yagare! Go!! Black Santa?: Alright! If you understand, then it's over. Get yourselves home and go to bed! Go!!

ごろつき：　はいいっ！　ごめんなさーーーーーーーいっ！ Gorotsuki: Haii! Gomen nasaaaaaaai! Thugs: Yeeess! We're sorrrrrrryyyyyyy!

ごろつき：　おやすみなさーーーーいっ！　良い夢をぉぉぉぉぉーーーーっ！！ Gorotsuki: Oyasumi nasaaaaai! Yoi yume ooooooooo!! Thugs: Good niiiiight! Sweet dreeeeeaaams!!

マリア：　あ、　あの。。。　ありがとうございます。　助けていただき、　感謝の言葉もありません。 Maria: A, ano... arigatou gozaimasu. Tasukete itadaki, kansha no kotobo mo arimasen. Maria: A, ah... thank you so much. There aren't words enough to express our appreciation for your help.

リョウタ：　いいな、　いいなあーっ！　どこの人なんだろ！　サンタっぽかったけど！ Ryouta: Iina, iinaaa! Doko no hito nan darou! Santa- pokatta kedo Ryouta: So neat, so great! [And I have no idea about the rest, short of mentioning he's a santa]

[Here it is again. The kanji at the start of the second line 英雄 is "eiyu", which means hero. But the furigana over the kanji is ヒーロー, the katakana for "hiiroo" (hero). So the furigana gives you the same idea, but it's not a literal translation of the kanji, just like the charge skill back on part 59. Housamo plz]

Hurray! My tumblr blog is up and running! Between setting up this secondary blog, and the primary blog meepr, I’ve made my first posts on this site ever! ^_^

For my first trick: I’ll be attempting to play and translate Housamo / Tokyo Afterschool Summoners. Because what better start to practicing Japanese than bara furries?
