Thank you @madfantasy for illustrating this scene from my short fic, Nine Words!
Hermione is bathed in moonlight, silver and soft. It makes her glow in a way that makes him feel small. Like he is unworthy to behold such beauty. Her eyes shine like stars as she takes in the sight of the moon. She exhales softly, a smile dancing on her lips.
"Look! How lovely!"
Severus nods slowly. "Beautiful." He still has not looked to see what her eyes are fixed on. It wouldn't make a difference because he only sees her.

A pensive/calm post-war Severus for a change. We all know he’s an angst queen at heart, but I like to think he’s found some peace after the war 🌲✨

Saving Severus Snape
*Now Completed!*
Hermione and Severus lost themselves in each other for hours, both feeling like they could never get enough of one another. Both feeling like there could have never been enough time to truly show the other how much they were in love.
Time…
Mysterious thing, time. Powerful, but when meddled with… it could lead to unimaginable happiness and love.

Saving Severus Snape
Epilogue - Completed
It was like stepping back in time, when she stepped off that boat, and onto the little island with Severus. The view of Hogwarts across the lake in the setting sun would never stop taking her breath away. The grass was still overgrown, the willows still swayed gently in the breeze. Still, the place was truly magical.
Severus took a small basket from the pocket of his robes, and pointed his wand at it, so it returned to its normal size. From inside it, he pulled out a large blanket, which he spread out on the ground for them both to sit upon.
Once they were seated, he reached inside for a bottle of elf-made wine, two thermoses of soup, and a loaf of bread. They ate together, chatting about their day. Hermione was glad to hear that, since Severus was teaching a subject he enjoyed, that he wasn’t quite as hard on the students as he had once been. That didn’t mean that he hadn’t expected their very best, but he wasn’t anywhere near as cruel as he once was.
When they were both finished, Hermione sat tucked against Severus’ side. He had his arm around her, and she leaned her head against his shoulder. She couldn’t remember the last time she felt so at peace and content.

Saving Severus Snape
Chapter 41 - Updated
Hermione and Severus were once again in Severus’ sitting room. She stood very still and silent, attempting to take in all that she had just been shown. Without consciously doing so, she sank down onto the sofa they were standing next to. Her eyes focused on the dancing flames in the hearth.
Her fault. All her fault. It was her fault that he had turned to Voldemort. A part of her feared that would have been the reason, but to see it. To actually see it made it difficult to breathe.
She always knew that leaving him would cause him pain. She knew that. She accepted that. It didn’t mean she liked it, it agonized her while she was in the past. It caused her many sleepless nights. But she knew it was unavoidable. Reliving all of those painful moments with him broke her heart.
“Severus,” she whispered. “I’m - I’m so sorry.”
He sat down beside her, much closer than before.
“Hermione-“ he began.
“No, let me say this,” she pleaded, still staring at the fire. She couldn’t face looking at him. “I am so sorry for what my leaving did to you. I’m sorry that you felt going to Voldemort was your only choice. I’m so, so sorry for the years of pain that I caused.” She sniffled. “It was always in the back of my mind. Wondering if me leaving would push you to him. And now to see my fears confirmed… I understand if you can never forgive me.”
Severus made a move, as if he were going to put his arm around her, but stopped himself. He took a deep breath.
“I won’t deny that the years have been difficult, Hermione,” he said.
“I know,” she said almost inaudibly.
“I sent owls weekly, that first year after you left. One by one they returned unopened, saying the recipient could not be found.”
Hermione closed her eyes as he spoke, and felt the tears stream down her face.

Saving Severus Snape
Chapter 40 - Updated
Hermione didn’t want to ask the next question. However, she had to. She had to know.
“Do you,” she hesitated. “Do you still…?” she trailed off.
“Do I still, what?” he asked.
Hermione’s palms were beginning to sweat. She wiped them off on her denims, and answered in a small voice.
“Love me?”
She held her breath waiting for him to respond. He opened and closed his mouth, like he was going to answer, then seemed to decide not to. When he didn’t, she exhaled, and tried not to choke on the lump that was forming in her throat.
Without a word, Severus stood, and took a few steps towards the Pensive.
“I believe it’s time to show you everything I went through after you left,” he told her. “Then your question will be answered.”
Hermione nodded once. Then stood and joined him at the Pensive.
“Alright,” she agreed, albeit reluctantly.
This, she knew, was going to break her heart.
Hermione looked down at the swirling white liquid, and felt her heart pounding. She wasn’t sure what Severus intended to show her, but she was sure it wasn’t going to be pleasant. However, if he had lived through all that he was planning on showing her, the least she could have done was watch.
“Are you ready?” Severus asked her.
Hermione gave him a small smile.
“No,” she answered truthfully. “But I do want to see.”
Severus gestured towards the Pensive.
“Very well. Ladies first,” he said.

Saving Severus Snape
Chapter 39 - Updated
“It’s so strange,” said Harry. “That you knew my own parents better than I ever will.”
Hermione felt terribly when Harry had put it that way. It was a shame that she had gotten to know them, and Harry never would.
“I’m so sorry, Harry,” she said softly.
Harry’s lips tilted up in a smile that did not reach his eyes.
“It’s okay, Hermione. But I would love to hear more about them,” he said.
Hermione smiled back at Harry.
“You are so much like them,” she began. “You get your loyalty from your father, and your fierceness from your mother. As I said, you look so much like James, but you really do have exactly Lily’s eyes. You even sound like your father! The first time I heard him speak, I knew it was him, without even looking at him. That was how much you sounded alike.”
Harry beamed at this, though his eyes glistened with unshed tears.
“Thank you,” he told her in a rough voice. “I’ll want to hear more, but I reckon I should let you get back to your story.”
Truthfully, Hermione was glad for the minor side road her story took, speaking to Harry about his parents. It delayed speaking of the thing she was dreading to tell them. But, she supposed she shouldn’t stall any longer, and rip the bandage off, so to say.
“So while I was there, I began to develop a, erm, close… bond with someone,” she began to admit.
She saw Neville’s eyebrows raise, Ginny’s head cock to the side, and Ron’s face grow red. Harry’s expression was bemused.
“By, close bond, what do you mean?” asked Ron, with a hint of steel in his tone.
Hermione started to fidget. Her face felt like it was on fire. She wasn’t sure how to answer.

The wonderful talented @alinearthp made this for me as commission and I love it! I’m obsessed with time-travel stories with Hermione and young Sev falling in love with each other…so I wished for a drawing of them learning together…on and under the table. 😉🖤
This came out so beautiful! I love it! Again, thank you @alinearthp !

Saving Severus Snape
Chapter 38 - Updated
“We will discuss… everything,” he looked away, clearly uncomfortable. “Once I am out of this blasted hospital. I give you my word,” he promised.
Hermione nodded again. She suddenly felt as if she couldn’t speak. She was sure that if she tried to speak, she would have lost the little bit of control she was clinging to, and would have broken down completely.
“But for now,” he continued, “I need to rest.”
Hermione stood again from her chair, and clenched her beaded bag in her hand. She took a shuddering breath, and nodded a third time.
“Should I come back?” she asked, her voice quivered.
Severus exhaled through his nose, then shrugged his shoulders.
“If you must,” he said.
Hermione nearly smiled, remembering him speaking those exact words when she first tried to help him with his non-verbal magic. Once again, she took, if you must, as a yes.
“I’ll be back tomorrow,” she told him.
He shrugged again, and mumbled something that sounded strangely like, insufferable. Her lips twitched again. She patted his arm once, then made her way towards the door. When she closed the door, she could have sworn she heard Severus say, “tomorrow then,” softly from behind it.

Saving Severus Snape
Chapter 37 - Updated
Hermione tried to help him get into a sitting position. He was barely able to sit up straight, and even as she crouched next to him, she was supporting most of his weight. He was certainly much heavier than she remembered, but she was running on pure adrenaline and determination, and was able to somehow manage. She gripped him around the waist as tightly as she could, twisted on the spot, and the next thing she knew, they were both crushed into the inky blackness.
They landed hard on the floor in the lobby of St. Mungos. The witch behind the counter stood at once, at the sight of the two battered and bloody bodies that had just appeared on the floor. Hermione looked up at her, her eyes were wide with panic.
“He needs help!” she shouted.
It seemed the Apparation had taken the little bit of strength Severus seemed to have gained moments before. All she saw were the whites of his eyes, before they closed, and his body went limp.
No! She thought with a sickening clenching feeling in her gut. She turned her attention back to the witch.
“HELP HIM!” She bellowed.
Everything then seemed to happen in a blur. A flurry of Medi Witches and Wizards rushed towards them, and lifted Severus onto a stretcher. She ran behind them as they rushed down the halls, and got him into the nearest room they could find.
