I set out with the most legit and serious intentions of doing some Not A Meme. The joke was on me tho bc it turns out my brain only communicates in memes and what we get is basically a meme mood board of Unsui trying to parent Agon lol. literally I remembered the Stu Pickles 2am chocolate pudding meme and was like “yeah that’s how this would go”. Unsui forced to make chocolate pudding at 2am because of 5yo Agon’s demands is just.... I feel it in my heart.

Also can we talk for a minute about how wild Agon’s kid design is in the manga because his hair isn’t colored in even in like, elementary school so like.... how old was he when he started dying or bleaching it???? like which direction did he go????? what color IS his natural hair????? i’m BAFFLED.

I planned on coloring the last one too but I liked the lines as is so much I just didn’t oops.

An idea I might come back to when I’m less rusty because I’ve been writing scenes like this (dramatic emotional running to this song) in my head for at least 7 years now and I feel utterly unhinged seeing it actually done.

Regardless of how you feel about Billy it’d be plain dishonest to not admit that he was huge and complex part of Max’s life and that her connection to “Running Up That Hill (Deal With God)” is because of her feelings around Billy. His presence is all through her storyline this season and cannot be ignored. He was her tormentor but he also took the brunt of the abuse at home and his last act was to protect a girl he barely knew against a monster he didn’t stand a chance against. It’s a Lot for anyone, let alone a kid, to process.

 It’s hard for me to completely articulate my thoughts about this scene completely but there are things that stand out to me. Billy is possessed for about 5 days, Vecna torments his victims for 5-7 days before he kills them. Vecna tries to kill Max around Billy’s birthday and at his grave. It’s the song that reminds her of Billy/that is clearly narratively tied to her survivor’s guilt about Billy that helps save her life. With her own emotional catharsis achieved she lashes out against her supernatural tormentor just like Billy did.

It all comes together for me to re-contextualize the song as less about her guilt and more a metaphorical message from Billy to her (Let me steal this moment from you now / Oh, come on, angel / Come on, come on, darling / Let's exchange the experience). When I’ve used this song before in my own versions of this scene for other things the song is usually someone saying “Let me take on your pain. I will happily suffer in your place” or standing between someone and a threat and I feel shades of that here in how she’s surrounded by Billy’s presence on a meta level. She asks “if he can hear her” and in a way he can. Regardless if it’s his spirit or just her finally allowing herself to vocalize her grief and thus process it, his presence is there and it does --once again-- put him between her and a supernatural danger.

i’m working on a story about rogue-kurt siblingship and am also EXTREMELY feral about punk rogue (aka og 80s rogue) so i wanted to do a little sketch/study thing of the two.

when i go to color/detail i started with rogue’s outfit. this was a mistake bc it made me wanna die. on the other hand she looks GREAT so rip 2 me i guess!!! i included red on her just to fend off my urge to put her exxclusively black,white and green plus bring in a bit more punky mismatch but i’m still torn on it... Needs More Green.

NAMOR WEEK DAY 5: Trident

I’m forever in hell over the designs for Namor’s trident because some of them are just...... Why. So i took a stab at one myself. The trident itself is based on south asian tridents plus a lil bit of editing on the bottom half to make it vaguely more nautical. some fishscale design on the staff and the bottom is a nod to the 2000s Fantastic Four cartoon trident design because it looked the nicest out of all the official Namor trident designs.

NAMOR WEEK DAY 3:  Horror

dfklghfkjlds i had another piece with this but WOW i hate it!!!!!! so we get the spot illustration only fkljgsdfjk

i do straight up basic the depths fanart at literally ANY opportunity i get so i opted to try and like...... not just redo the same picture i always do and listened to the temple by hp lovecraft last year so!!!!!!

i wouldn’t be surprised if someone told me the temple was an inspiration for the depths. it tells the story of a german submarine crew in WW1 and their tragic end after the take a strange carved bust on a dead man. it’s a perfect story to blend in with the darker end of namor lore so naturally we get namor as the ominous carving.

here are some relevant quotes to set the mood:

Namor Week Day 1 : Birthday/Celebration/Legacy

I thought about a few different ways to go with this but something I feel like we don’t get enough of really is Namor with his subject, specifically the kids. I like the idea of Namor’s legacy not just being all this like breakneck sociopolitical change and reform and shit but also something positive and inspiring to the kids who will grow up to take up that mantle and continue the reforms he’s started on. like... Namor likes kids actually, regardless of what Marvel says dsifhgdsfl

Day 2 of namor week: team up !

Like the first series I ever read with namor was the defenders (2011) comic series and it really solidified my love for him and introduced me to doctor strange and the silver surfer and the defenders and I’ve always had a soft spot for this team since. I really love the groups just give off “why?” Vibes.

I literally spent the whole day either trying to muster energy or a concept that wasn’t “defenders but animal crossing” and failed miserably. also lowkey blacked out and lost HOURS to reading defenders comics and clea/strange fanfic bc while looking for inspo i fucked up and had fun fjkghlds 

and in the end.... i still just fucking did “defenders but animal crossing” they’re not animals tho bc i knew INSTANTLY i was putting WAY TOO MUCH THOUGHT INTO WHAT THEY’D BE

today’s prompt was fire & water and naturally i ended up on phoenix namor. AvX was like, the first big thing I read when i got into comics and i still remember how HYPED i was about seeing namor with the phoenix force since it was so utterly feral and the outfits were so spicy. 

i’ve still got a lot of nerve issues in my arm which hasn’t helped me in trying to get back to doing art and like, actually posting it, fconsistently so i spent this whole time making sure to remind myself not to try and compensate for being out of practice by overworking it/putting in crazy but ineffectual effort and honestly i’m very happy with the outcome. it’s still just a glorified sketch but i got in the neighborhood of everything i wanted to do and i didn’t labor over it for the whole night and fuck my arm up anymore that it is from 2 days of video editing B)
