its the way this shot is not about Wills feelings towards mike but mikes feelings towards Will.

This shot is often said to be paralleled with the robin/vickie shot and it definitely is! But the feelings highlighted are different.

Robin is in focus and clearly looking at Vickie. Shes shown afterwards to be upset as she looks between the two, locks eyes with Vickie, and runs away. This is to highlight Robins feelings and hint at Vickies reciprocative ones. It also comments on how Robin will come between the two and the audience knows this.

Meanwhile...

Will is out of focus because the shot is not about his feelings and throughout the entire scene Will's focus is on El. But who parallels Robins upset reaction? Mike. He looks between Will and El with a conflicted expression on his face.

Additionally, Will being out of focus is to emphasize the lingering thought and almost unclear obstacle he poses between Mike and El because of Mikes repressed feelings for him.

While it definitely makes the GA more aware of Wills feelings for Mike, this shot overall is to show Mikes feelings towards Will and how he will eventually become a conflict between him and el. Which also plays into another reason why Will is out of focus; the GA has not yet been explicitly shown to be Mikes love interest.

(ie. the GA knows Robin will come between Vickie and boy bc shes her established love interest = Robin in focus V.S the GA does not know/is unclear wether Will is Mikes love interest = Will is out of focus)

and a character who doesn't really understand him and has feelings for him that he can't return

causing him to act unlike himself

It’s ladies night at the gay bar Eddie works at which means no men allowed, which means, ‘how the hell did this dork in a polo make it pass the bouncer and how the hell has no one complained about him yet?’

Eddie watches the admittedly gorgeous guy approach the bar and ask for a drink. Eddie responds with, “How did you get past Frank?”

“The bouncer?” Pretty boy asks. “Oh, I asked if I could come in.”

“You asked?”

“Yeah?”

“And he let you?”

“Yeahhh?”

“None of these girls are going to go for you,” Eddie tells him in case he somehow missed that this was the queerest bar in town. “They’re lesbians. They like women.”

“I know!” The guy - Steve, Eddie will find out later - smiles, bright and big. “Isn’t that great?!”

Something in Eddie curdles with disgust because, “Nice try, buddy. You’re not going to ‘turn’ a lesbian.”

“Hope not,” Steve laughs and then pulls a stack of Polaroids out of his pocket. “Look at this.”

He holds one out to Eddie, showing him the image of a girl looking done-as-shit with the camera in her face. There’s a phone number written at the bottom.

“This is Robin," Steve says fondly. “Shes my best friend, and a lesbian, and the best person I’ve ever met, and I love her…she deserves a girlfriend so I’m-“

“Advertising her?”

“Helping get her a date,” Steve finishes. “This will make a great story at their wedding.”

“That’s insane…and strangely endearing.”

“Yeah, I’m like that,” Steve says, sliding over a Polaroid of Robin giving the camera the bird. “That’s my phone number too. Just so you know.”

Dean gets drunk off his ass in a bar in Lebanon and starts rambling to everyone who will listen about his little brother. About how cute he is, how he has the cutest puppy eyes and it's sooooo unfair because Dean just can't resist them. He also gets emotional talking about how proud he is of the kid and how smart he is.

Then, a freakishly tall guy built like a brick house walks into the bar and Dean beams the moment he sees him and happily calls him "Sammy". The entire bar is stunned because "This is Sammy???". The kid Dean has been talking about for hours and said was "the cutest fucking thing" he has ever seen??? A guy who could probably bend metal with his bare hands??? They thought he would be like 10 at best from Dean's description but this guy has to be in his mid-thirties! He really doesn't fit the definition of cute.

Sam gets on Dean's case for drinking too much and Dean pouts and refuses to leave the bar. "I won't leave until you do the thing Sam" "I don't know what you're talking about" "Yes you do" "Dean no! It's weird!" "D o t h e t h i n g. Or I'm not leaving Sam."

With the biggest, wettest, roundest eyes they have ever seen, Sam asks him softly to please come home with him. Dean groans with pain like a hangover man blinded by the sun, caves in and leaves the bar with Sam. Everyone is left stunned and a little flustered because that was actually cute holy shit! How the fuck did he do that???

i can't accept the fact that demon!dean looks at his brother like that.

i love the fact that in the later seasons sam gets so comfortable with how much dean loves him that he just starts shamelessly playing the little brother card every chance he gets. like somewhere along the line he went, “wait. i’m dean’s weakness.” and instead of being conflicted about it like he used to be, he’s just like, “bet. time to weaponize this.”

it’s genuinely so funny—he knows exactly what he’s doing. he hits dean with the soft voice, the “you’re my big brother” line, the puppy dog look, maybe throws in a sad smile or a single tear, and boom. it’s over. dean’s folding faster than a lawn chair. this man could be ready to take on god himself, but sam hits him with the look™ and suddenly he’s like, “okay fine we’ll do it your way.”

and the best part? dean knows he’s being manipulated. you can see it on his face. he’s like, “you little shit,” but he still goes along with it because it’s sam. and he can’t say no to sam. he never could.

it’s such a hilarious, lowkey kind of power sam holds, and he uses it so effortlessly. he’s no longer trying to pull away from dean’s protectiveness—he’s leaned into it, owns it, and uses it like a pro. he’s got dean wrapped around his finger and they both know it. absolutely unhinged sibling behavior. 10/10.
