Original Avatar 2 script Quaritch and Spider moments that live rent free in my head:

When Phoenix squad catches the Sullies, and Quaritch and Spider have their "reunion" moment, Quaritch has a flashback to lying in a bunk with baby Spider and reading him a bedtime story.

When the boy is tortured in the mind scanner, not only does Quaritch stop the session, but puts his foot down and tells the RDA staff they’re "done". Even glares at Ardmore.

“Tough guy, huh? How’s that working out for you?” As Quaritch pulls Spider out of the machine and wipes his bloody nose.

Quaritch putting Spider’s air mask on for him, even though Socorro is fully capable of doing it himself.

Spider hazing the HELL out of the squad, and Quaritch not reprimanding him in the slightest.

Quaritch holding the soldiers on the sea dragon off from shooting at Jake on the rocks because he’s scared that they might hit Spider.

The script’s narrative going from referring to Miles as just "Quaritch", to referring to him as "Father" after Quaritch gives up Kiri.

Spider riding with Quaritch being described as him being "safe, shielded between blue arms" before the first Tau’nui village raid to "caged between blue arms" after the first raid.

The narrative referring to Spider as Quaritch’s son when Spider pulls him out of the water.

Something that really gets me about Spider, is that he grew up as no one's first priority. The Sullys, the scientists, his foster parents, they all have people that rank higher than him, if he even registers to them at all.

Which I mean, it's understandable in some ways. Family is important, people want to protect their kin. Jake and Neytiri have kids, Norm has a wife and kids, the McCoskers have kids. But where does that leave an orphan with no adults to turn to?

No one claimed him as their own. He grew up always on the outskirts of connection. Jake even called him a stray cat. The closest bonds he has are with Lo'ak, Kiri and Tuk (and maybe to some extent he had one with Neteyam too) but those bonds between them are still contingent on Jake and Neytiri's approval. Lo'ak is only free to convince Neteyam to come with him to rescue Spider on the Sea Dragon because they're on their own, and Spider is right within reach.

But then Quaritch happens. Spider knows his father was a terrible person, but the Na'vi with his father's name is a lot less black and white than the stories made him out to be. Over the months Spider is with the Recoms, Quaritch stops the RDA's torture, he listens when Spider teaches him about Pandora and Na'vi culture and language, he chooses not to take lives because Spider begs him not to. All things that the stories Spider has probably been told all his life would never let him believe. Quaritch isn't some completely mindless killer with no interest in Pandora past what humans can harvest from her, at least, this incarnation of him isn't. Some Ship of Theseus paradox has given Spider a second chance to have a family, and even if he knows he shouldn't fall for it, you can just tell that it's something he's always craved.

Then, Quaritch trades Kiri's life for Spider's and suddenly, Spider is someone's first priority. It doesn't cost Quaritch nothing to do this, but he does it anyway. Does what a father would do to protect their kid.

So, Spider saves him from drowning. Spider can't trust the man, not completely, not while he's still hellbent on revenge, but he's also the only adult who has put Spider first his whole life. Just like it's understandable why the Sullys, the scientists and his foster parents put their families first, it's understandable why Spider saved Quaritch. People protect their kin.

Combining different styles. I would think whenever he's upset spider goes further past the broken shack since the sully kids can't go near the shack. Just to lay and compose himself. Shed a few tears 🙂‍↕️

I think the funniest thing SNW could do with the La'An/Spock romance is just, let them have a happy ending. Nobody dies, maybe they even get married on the ship, at the end Spock stays on the Enterprise while La'An takes a different posting.

Then the entirety of TOS and the movies Spock just has a very busy wife on a different ship (maybe first officer for Una!) and they meet up when they can and have after shift calls and Spock never mentions her because he's a very private guy.

Like he's already got a secret sibling he's never mentioned again, this isn't that much of a stretch. Please writers I just want La'An to be happy and not get fridged.
