ok i finally made a proper about page, fancied it up and all!  feel free to check it out.   i summarized the first few eps, but strayed away from spoiler territory.

gimme an au where jack was raised as the grand magus’ legitimate son, by edward and his wife, and got to have maddox as his little brother thanks.   obviously he was stolen from his mother though, which is depressing, and from his grandfather.   also his grandfather has never stopped keeping tabs on jack, that poster board of edward in the garage? now it’s all of jack and it’s depressing bc they’re the only pics that grandpa pete has of his grandson.

jack does GENUINELY care about maddox, however after witnessing his grandfather and primary caretaker for the past fifteen years fucking DIE by the hands of their father, he loses his moral compass and succumbs to rage and a desire for revenge.  jack, would love maddox.  he would take care of maddox.  it’s just that for a second there he’d lost sight of what was right and just.  he wanted someone else (in this case edward who killed his grandfather and caused the death of his mother) to suffer like he has for all these years.  jack willing to let maddox die, was in a moment where jack had lost himself.  obviously he found himself when he didn’t give maddox over to edward. (also in an au where edward raised jack with his wife, and jack grew up with maddox as his little brother, he calls maddox maddie)
