Rise Turtles in Pixel Art :D

What if the Rise Turtles were Doki Doki characters?

If I was going to remove the Doki characters from their game and replace them with the rise turtles, who is going to be who? And why?

Today I am going to answer that question that absolutely nobody asked!

After A LOT of thinking I decided to do it like this:

Donnie -> Yuri

Mikey -> Natsuki

Leo -> Sayori

Raph -> Monika

I am going to start by explaining the connections that are the simplest and then building up to the craziest one. Hope you enjoy it!

(Warning: DDLC Spoilers in case you haven’t play the game and spoilers for the Rottmnt Series and Movie)

Donnie -> Yuri

Now, I know what you must be thinking: “oooh, you are just matching these two characters together because they are both purple! Their personalities have nothing to do with each other!”

And to that I say yes, you are right. Their personalities have nothing to do with each other, but if I was going to match these characters just based on personalities no one would fit with nobody because none of them have anything to do with each other.

Instead, I am going to do this based on other, way more interesting, factors.

In Doki Doki, Yuri is one of the most mature and the most intellectual character. Donnie is also the smartest and most intellectual character in Rise and probably the second most mature (after Raph who is the most)

Donnie, when talking about something that he likes or that he knows a lot about starts to infodump without realizing it, just like Yuri does.

Despite being called the “Literature Club” Yuri is the only character that we see reading A book more than once. For all we know, Donnie is probably the only character that we know that has read proper books while the other three we only see them reading comics.

Out of the four, Donnie would be the most likely to have a knife collection like Yuri has since he canonically probably enjoys murder and other illegal things (in fiction, ok).

Donnie is canonically autistic and some DDLC fans also think that Yuri might be autistic as well.

And also, because they are both purple characters lol.

Mikey -> Natsuki

If I was going to match the turtles with the Dokies based on just personality traits, Mikey and Natsuki would be the one combo to make the most sense.

Natsuki is someone with a very temperate personality and has a lot of confidence, despite being the smallest of the four, who likes to think that she is a tough boss girl (she is :]).

Mikey also has a temperate personality and despite being the smallest and youngest, he is a tough little guy that has a lot of confidence in himself and others.

Natsuki is the smallest of the four Dokies just like Mikey is the smallest of the four turtles.

Mikey enjoys cooking and Natsuki enjoys baking. These two things are not the same but usually people who know how to bake also know how to cook and people who know how to cook have the chance to possibly know how to bake.

In Doki Doki, Yuri and Natsuki are known to be opposites of each other. Yuri is a well composed shy tall lady who likes real books and claims that manga is not literature, while Natsuki is a short, loud and energetic girl with no shame that defends that manga IS literature.

In Rottmnt, Donnie and Mikey are also kind of the opposites of each other. Donnie is the type of person to think before they act and values rational thinking over emotions, while Mikey usually acts on impulse and values feelings and emotions over cold rational thinking.

All of this also reinforces both Donnie being Yuri and Mikey being Natsuki.

Leo -> Sayori

First of all, blue character with blue character. Are we okay with that?

Second, If Mikey and Natsuki are the nº1 characters which personalities match the best, Leo and Sayori would be a very very far away second.

Sayori is a supportive person that likes to see everyone succeed, kind of like Leo was at the beginning of the Rise series. She is also someone that likes to play with others and mess with them. The difference is that Sayori does that in a more playful and innocent way while Leo does that in a more invasive and provoking way.

[Trigger Warning for the following text: mention of depression, suicide and suicidal thoughts (you know how DDLC is, don’t blame me)] [The end of the triggers is marked with green text]

During the first act of DDLC, we slowly realize that Sayori suffers from depression, and it doesn’t matter what we do or the choices that we make, at the end of the first act, she ends up killing herself.

The main reason for this is that she thinks that she is a burden to everyone and by removing herself from the equation she believes that everyone will finally be able to be happy (which is a really sad reality for a lot of people).

Leo on the other hand, he doesn’t suffer from depression but struggles a lot with self esteem and many Rise fans believe that he has an inferiority complex. He believes that he is less than is brothers and he is nothing without them (as shown in the “Portal Jacked” episode and in other instances).

Also, at the end of the Rottmnt Movie when Leo is the only one between the Krang and the world, he makes a final plan where he uses his teleporting skills to put the Krang inside the prison dimension and teleports himself to hold the krang there. Which would result in Leo being lost forever if it weren’t for his brothers that managed to get him out of there.

We know that Leo did this mainly because he wanted to save the world and his family. However, many fans believe that he also did this because, after making too many mistakes that almost cost the lives of his own family and the lives of the entire world, he wanted to remove himself from the equation as well.

Both of these cases are not the same, but they share some similarities.

Raph -> Monika

You would probably think that of all the turtles, if someone was going to replace Monika, Donnie would be the best pick. After all he is the one that also knows how to code, is the one that acts more like a psychopath and is not scared of putting his own brothers throw experiments. Perfect pick, right?

No.

Not even close.

Let me tell you why I decided to write this post in the first place.

Raphael is the only character in the entire Rise series that could possibly replace Monika.

Let’s start lightly.

In terms of design, in Doki Doki, out of the four characters, Monika is the one that looks the most out of place.

Also, when the designs of the Rise turtles were first revealed, everyone pointed out that Raph was the one that looked the most different and the most out of place of the four.

Nothing too special about this.

We all know that Monika is the president of the Literature Club and the vice president is Sayori. When Monika gets removed from the game at the end of the third act, the fourth act begins. And with no Monika to be president, Sayori takes that role.

Kind of like how, during the series, Raph is always the leader and when he is no longer the leader that role passes on to Leo (who I previously paired with Sayori).

Monika is always saying during the game that she is the president, and that she knows everything because of it. Like how Raph would say that he knows better than his brothers because he is older than them.

Monika is a very mature person. Raph is also the most mature out of the four brothers, especially at the end of the Rise series and during the Rise Movie.

All of this could be some solid evidence to proof my point…

But it’s nothing compared to the realization that I had a couple of months ago.

We all know that Monika is the only character (at least during the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd act) that continuously breaks the fourth wall and that is aware that the fourth wall even exists while the others have no idea.

We all also know that, in the Rottmnt series, there are a lot of instances where we see the characters briefly breaking the fourth wall. Nothing too special about this fact.

However, do you know who is the only character that has a dedicated episode of just them breaking the fourth wall?

In the episode “Pizza Pit” it starts with Raph talking with someone. At the beginning of it, we don’t know who it is. He continues doing this throughout the rest of the episode. In the end when he is finishing talking to that someone, Leo asks him “Who are you talking to?”. Raph then looks at us and winks.

He was talking to us, the viewer.

He was the one that was continuously breaking the fourth wall, and his brothers were not even aware of it.

No one could fit the role of Monika better than Raph because no one else has a dedicated episode of them just messing with the fourth wall.

The Canary Continuity (ROTTMNT fanfic)

(No spoilers. I guess???)

It was 27/7/2025 (Sunday) when I was at my grandmother's house. I had nothing else interesting to do so I went to tumblr like I did almost every day.

For these past few weeks, sometimes, I wake up in the middle of the night (like 2 or 4 am) and without being able to sleep due to nightmares I went to tumblr as a way to distract myself. And I always came across Qolden’s posts, and I read them. (on my other account)

The bro Qolden posts stuff so frequently that half of my feed is just his texts (I follow like, 43 other people). I read them and some of them were about The Canary Continuity and at the time I haven’t read that so I was reading his posts out of context wondering if I should give it a try.

When I was in my grandmother's house and went to tumblr I saw his posts again about The Canary Continuity and said “Ok, fine. You win. I’m going to read that.”

I had absolutely zero expectations other than the fact that it had a lot of angst and all the stuff that usually comes with it.

So, I started reading on that Sunday.

Then I spent the entire Monday reading it…

Then Tuesday…

Then Wednesday…

Then I finished reading everything on Thursday.

And,

Wow…

WOW! D:

QOLDEN,

BROTHER, (can I call you brother O^0?)

Do you have any idea how rare it is for me to read day after day like that? Do you have any idea how rare it is for me to read long texts at all!?!

MAN! You are such a good writer! Like, it was so great to read all of that! I loved it! I would read it again if I had the patience :D

At the beginning of the first few chapters, the story was really confusing. Not saying that the writing was confusing, but the things that were happening were. I was always wondering if I was reading it correctly or if I was missing something.

You follow the beginning of the story from Donnie’s point of view and things just start to happen without any context. It’s much as confusing to you as it is for him. And that makes you feel sick and wonder what was wrong? Why was this happening? Making you question what is real or not real.

And I think that was the point. It’s meant to be confusing. To make you put yourself on his shoes. To make you feel what Donnie is feeling. And you, Qolden, nailed that perfectly!

If you instead had given the context at the beginning or while things were happening, it would NOT have the same effect and I’m so glad you didn’t do that.

The emotions on that part and the after that felt always real and it never felt forced. Everything was so realistic (not exactly everything because this is rottmnt ninja turtles lol, like, don’t expect just real-life real stuff). Even the progress of the after is realistic. Heartwarming and heartbreaking at the same time. Some people think that kind of thing is supposed to be linear but I’m glad you didn’t do that way because it is never going to be linear.

April was a 10/10 character. Glad that was consistent from the canon source :]

My favorite chapter was wait out the weather. It’s the one that gave me the most emotional damage, but in a good way. I felt the emotion on my skin, if you can catch my drift.

I highly recommend reading The Canary Continuity, but if you are a very young person or someone that gets disturbed too easily it’s better if you don’t read it. It’s not going to be as heavy as Doki Doki (not even close!), but it can still make you feel sick. You can go to The Canary Continuity page on AO3 to see all the warning notes.

I am going to tell (almost) everything just for you, my friend.

On the day that the power went out, I found it weird that there was no electricity on my house. I didn’t think too much about it and went to catch the train to go to university, but when I arrived there, there were a lot of people outside the train station which was weirder.

Then, my dad called me saying to not go to the train station (I was already there lol) and told me that the entire Portugal was without electricity. I was like “The entire Portugal?!?”, “Yes the entire Portugal.” Dad said.

I went to take the bus back to my house and very nervously asked a person if they knew what was going on and they told me that the entire Europe was without electricity, and I was like “the entire Europe!?!?!?”, “Yeah, crazy right?” they said.

Then people started theorizing if this as a Russian attack because Russian is in war with Ukraine since 24/2/2022 and their president is also pissed at Europe for defending Ukraine.

Like, you have no idea. Everyone was in panic, especially in Lisbon (Portugal's capital). I was not there to see but my friends that lived there told me that there were car crashes and people rushing into stores to buy supplies and people stuck in the metros underground and etc.

Like do you guys remember the covid Pandemic where people went to the stores to buy a lot of unnecessary toilet paper? Yeah, it was like that again, but worse. Honestly, this may sound bad from my part, but that bit was hilarious.

Of course, I didn’t see any of that because I was in the comfort of my home. Thankfully, he had an old radio that worked with batteries, so me and my family listen to the news.

They said that the power was going to take probably 3 days to come back and they didn’t know the cause of it. Also saying it could be a Russian attack.

Honestly, I didn’t think to much of it other than “I am probably going to die. Well, at least I did my best :3”. This may sound weird, but it was kinda wholesome knowing that I was not alone and we were all going to die together.

The power went out at 11:33 (Portugal time) and not even 13 hours later at midnight it was almost fully back on.

The next day it was revealed that it was not a Russian attack (THANK GOODNESS) but it was instead somewhere in Spain that had “a shortfall in conventional power” or something like that according to google (I dunno dude, I’m not a specialist).

Also, the power was just out in Portugal, Spain a little bit of France. Not in all of Europe like most people thought.

And slowly, but shortly after, things went back to normal.

It was a miracle that only 7 people in Spain and 1 in Portugal had died in the middle of this chaos (which is still unfortunate, don’t get me wrong).

On the next few days people tried to go back to the stores with their hundreds of cans of tuna to see if they could get their money back. Like, man, this is what desperation did to people. It’s unbelievable.

All of this situation was such an extremely rare sight to see in Portugal because Portugal is known to be one of the most peaceful countries that exists. Chaos just doesn’t happen on this scale. It was wild!

But now everything is completely fine like it never happened C:

Since I couldn’t use the computer (because there was no electricity lol) I decided to finally grab a pencil and made this drawing on that day.

I haven’t made a drawing in pixel art in this style since I was in 6th grade when I was 12 yrs old.

Now I am 20…

It has been 8 years O_O

I am going to definitely do these types of drawings more often, it’s really fun to do them. Why the frick did I stop doing these things??
