Warnings: PTSD, gang violence, alcohol, eventual smut? (Maybe...definitely some sprinkles)
Prologue
Prologue
There is nothing like rush hour to get Yang's gears grinding. The worst than usual tables that need to be busted because there's no real busier. The nagging manager who sits back watching the staff struggle. And worst of all, the high demanding entitlement that comes from people not much better off than herself trying to feel superior for one second of their lives. Yang could swear a tooth would chip or a blood vessel would pop before she left today. But she could try a little longer to endure it. If it meant saving enough to start making rent somewhere decent.
"Hey lady, you listenin to me, I'm trying to order," an older man griped. Yang forced a grin. One that just barely passed for I'm not planning to strangle you. "I heard ya, let me go put this in the system." Her sweet facade fading immediately as she turned away to get his order made. "Last prick of the day, last prick of the day," She muttered to herself, smashing her finger on the register buttons.
"Uh Yang?" Her timid coworker Ana approached her. She sighed, knowing she'd be asked something she couldn't refuse. "Could you take the order of the guy sitting at seven? I've tried, but he just keeps sitting there muttering to himself. I don't know what's wrong with him. And he's starting to make me nervous, " And there it was. Yang rolled her eyes internally.
"Yeah, yeah. I got it," Yang said, heading back to the corner table. She really needed a better job than this. Anymore of this, and she'll burn the place down.
"Hey there, can I get you started with a drink or something?" Yang asked, watching the man mutter to himself. His expressions varied the more he talked to himself. "Come on man, you're gonna have to order something, or ya have to leave," Yang sighed, annoyed this was dragging her shift further into overtime. "Ugh, come on. Order or get out. " Yang's temper started to flare. "Anyone in their?" Yang snapped her fingers in his face.
Suddenly, the man grabbed her wrist and turned to look at her. "Hello there. I'm ready to order now. " He smiled. Yang growled and snatched her wrist back immediately. "This guy being for real right now?" She thought, getting more pissed. "What would you like?" Yang said through the grit of her teeth. "A slice of your famous cherry pie" He smiled.

Ever think about how everyone assumes or chalks Yang up to be a wild party girl with puns. Or an ill-tempered brute. To be fair, I do, too, at times. But she got into Beacon Academy, maybe not early, but it's not something to simply sneeze over. Fictional or not society is society, and people like gossip. What if the whispers of her peers started to get to her?

Characters: Weiss Schnee & Yang Xiao Long
Weiss sat at her shared desk focused on the nonsense homework assigned by her professor. She'd been working for the last hour trying to piece together how the lesson for the day was somehow relevant to the assigned work for the night. "Utter nonsense," She groaned. Suddenly, the door was slammed open and closed, startling the heiress. Definitely, leaving a dent in the wall and loosening the hinges.
Yang had stormed in and began pasting back and forth. Swinging her arms as if an opponent were in front of her. Weiss turned to her teammate alarmed yet more annoyed. She was trying to study, and in comes Yang...Crying?
Weiss deflated as she caught a glimpse of a tear from the blondes red eyes. Weiss was a bit taken aback. She never thought Yang the type to cry.
She continued to watch Yang's fit silently, unsure if stepping in was her place or not. But found it was her place when Yang knocked over a set of bunk beds and put a second hole in a wall. "Xiao-Long, stop this at once!" Weiss was surprised she listened. Yang froze on the spot and then swiftly made her way to the dorm bathroom.
Weiss was smacked by the whiplash of the scene previously before her. One second Yang's tearing the bedroom apart the next she's sheltering in the bathroom. Oh no. She was getting answers.
"Yang Xiao Long, explain yourself! Don't think for a second I'm gonna let this slide. You're in-"
"Shut up Weiss! I don't wanna hear this from you!"
Weiss gapped at the nerve of Yang. But did shut up after hearing the sniffles from the other side of the door.
She pulled her scroll out to contact Ruby or Blake but quickly remembered Ruby was opposite partner bonding or whatever she had called it. So her and Blake left for a book signing and a movie. Meaning their scrolls were most likely silent and out of mind. Maybe she could get assistance from JNPR? No. This felt a little too personal to bring to them. Although after all the noise, Nora, at the very least, would probably pop by after a while.
Weiss sighed perplexed as to what to do. She slid down the door and sat there listening to the sobs of her teammate. The distressed noises begin tugging at Weiss's heart. She can recall being in similar situations. Finding somewhere private to break down and express the raging emotions held in. But their at Beacon now. So there's not really anywhere private to let out those feelings.
Maybe it still isn't her place. Maybe she was overstepping her boundaries. But Weiss had always wanted someone to comfort her when she let out such emotions. Maybe Yang would want the same.
The white-haired girl gently knocked on the door. "Yang, I apologise for my tone earlier. You were clearly distressed, and my reaction wasn't appropriate in that moment."
"I'm not sure why you're upset, and you don't have to share with me if it makes you uncomfortable. But it's just the two of us now. And nothing that happened will leave my lips."
The two girls remained on either side of the door for a while more before Yang spoke up finally.
She had actually opened the door, and Weiss had fallen back. Then gave Weiss a half assed jab of the cliche pun about falling for her before walking passed to go fix her and Blakes Bunk bed.
Weiss thought Yang hadn't wanted to talk. And was going to try to go back to her homework. When Yang asked, "What do you think of me, Weiss?"
"I think the same of all three of you. A hinderance to my reputation. But on the occasion I'm surprised to find you advantageous"
"... Right. I guess I should've expected as much, " Yang sighed.
"However, you in particular are quite intricate. I could write you off like everyone else, a hot-headed wild card. But-"
"Wait, you know about that?!" Yang strides up to Weiss.
"I've begun to hear it circling."
"Please don't tell Ruby," Yang pleaded. Desperation pooled in Yangs eyes along with brimming tears.
"I don't want her worrying about me. She's got enough on her plate. The last thing she needs is my emotional garbage"
"Then I guess I'll have to worry about you," Weiss said sparingly. Leaving Yang puzzled. She hadn't expected Weiss to say something like that.
"I called you intricate, no? After knowing you for the last couple of months, I've learned your quiet, the defensive person. Very protective of people who you hold close to you. And while you do have a bit of a temper. You're solely blindly led by your loyalty to others you care about."
"It's not exactly fair to call you a brute or -"
"It's not just that, though. I'm just sick of being compared to you three. Not being as smart or graceful or tactful. I'm tired of hearing it"
"Would you stop cutting me off! And why do you care about the words of faceless, nobody's anyway? They don't know you. You got into Beacon just like the rest of us. And I've seen your schedule your in advance combat classes with Pyrrha. As for graceful. No one outclasses me. Weiss sneered that last bit, causing Yang to chuckle.
"Don't focus on the moronic comments from others. You're just fine, as is Yang." Weiss smiled softly before being pulled into a tight embrace by Yang.
"Thanks, Weiss, I mean it. I really needed to hear that." Yang placed her back down, smiling no signs of further tears.
She then looked to the walls with holes in them. "So what should we do about those?" Yang asked nonchalantly.
Weiss shrugged. "Blame Nora." Which caused both of them to fall into a fit of laughter.
