Tusk Love is becoming a very real novel! Written by Thea Guanzon, with a cover illustrated by Erion Makuo, the favorite novel of Jester Lavorre herself will be published July 1, 2025.

The publisher's summary from Random House Worlds reads:

As the daughter of an ambitious merchant, Guinevere’s path has been predetermined: marry into a noble house of the Dwendalian Empire, raise her family’s station, and live quietly as a lordling’s obedient wife. A Redditor put together this super comprehensive spreadsheet of non-USian sunscreens so you can sort and filter on the criteria that matter most to you. Truly is a travesty that the U.S. regulates sunscreen as a drug not a beauty product. Some of these chemicals have been in use for over twenty years!!

About sunscreen:

I recently found out that the FDA has not approved any new or improved sunscreen ingredients since 1999. Yeah, our American brand sunscreen formulas are THAT outdated.

Doesn’t matter if you spent $5 or $100 on whatever sunscreen you use, none of the formulas made in the US can effectively protect your skin from UVA rays (the type of UV that causes skin cancer & aging). The “broad-spectrum” they put on packaging actually means nothing, because the ingredients can’t back up that claim.

And even better, the oxybenzone you see in many sunscreens disrupt endocrine systems and can cause a number of health problems. It’s also a huge environmental contaminant, as it dissolves into water & causes coral to die painfully. Not great.

The best & most cutting-edge sunscreens on the global market are from Japan or Korea, two countries where sun protection is almost a cultural obsession. The chemical formulations they use aren’t greasy, most will sink into the skin and won’t leave a white cast, and they have very stable ingredients like Tinosorb S, Uvinul A Plus, & Uvinul T 150, which studies have shown are currently the most effective ingredients for protecting skin from UVA rays. This is especially important for PoC who are at much greater risk for skin cancer.

There are a lot of online stores that offer affordable listings of sunscreens from Korea and Japan, and Amazon has many 3rd-party sellers that have reasonable prices. Don’t be intimidated by the prices if you’re used to buying cheap drugstore sunscreen, or Neutrogena stuff. These imported products will be more expensive, and the bottles are smaller, but you want sunscreen that actually works and protects you from skin cancer.

(Some brands will give you more product for lower price. Try searching around for the best deal - there are some sites with discount prices.)

Quick guide to the rating system used for these sunscreens: SPF is for UVB, and PA is for UVA. SPF50+ is the highest, but 35+ is already the most protection anyone needs anyway. PA+ is the least amount of UVA protection, and it goes up to PA++++, the highest amount.

Anyways, that was my essay on sunscreen. Remember to apply sun protection daily, kids!

Every month, we highlight significant work done in the previous month by our editing community at Encyclopedia Exandria. This one is a LONG one, so fair warning...

March 2024 saw the creation of 83 (eighty-three) new mainspace articles! A bit more on why so many later, but first here's a selection of ten of them. You can find more at the 50 newest pages report.

So, why so many new articles? We created individual articles for every episode of Midst! Using information we already had in list of Midst episodes, we were able to create episode articles painlessly, programmatically, and promptly with Python magic. We've also made updates to our episode infobox for Midst to document airdates for the re-releases and for subscribers, illustrators for the video versions, and appendices links. Now that we've got individual articles, the summaries on the list were made more concise to provide different levels of summarization and to make appendices links easier to see. Work is also underway on the individual articles, including more robust summaries (now that they're standalone rather than in a table), appendices summaries, and illustration galleries. You can check out the articles for Unrise, Switcheroo, and Tempest for a peek at what we're aiming for and slowly moving toward.

Character infoboxes now have a place for movement speeds, making it easier to do thought experiments about which PC will win in a race. Also, we've historically had explanatory notes for multiple stats or DCs in a hover. We've changed our best practices to instead place these into a footnote formatted similar to references so that these notes can be accessed by mobile users.

The character infobox was also updated to handle stats for systems other than Dungeons & Dragons. We've added new items for Daggerheart (we're still getting a feel for what should be included), and we have options for a full custom stat array. This allows us to better handle Daggerheart characters in the future, should we see more of them, but also to better handle PCs in past one-shots who were not well-serviced by the less flexible stat handling. We've also inserted new fields to properly reflect Daggerheart's Community and Ancestry character options.

did this for one of my illustration class :) the assignment was to create a narrative illustration of any story of our choosing, so of course I had to go with my all time favorite moment from campaign 2. also fun fact, this piece literally destroyed my old ipad and I had to finally get a new one.... there is still more work I wanna do on this ngl, and I especially want to play around with the background some before I call it super finished and get prints made, but I've already spent 30+ hours on this over the past few days, so I'm taking a well deserved break from it for now :]
