Great divide chapter one
Ivy hasn't spoken to her family more than a few holidays worth of small talk each year since she moved away but with her son missing things will change.
Ivy let's out a string of curses in a mix if languages when her call goes to voice mail for the twentieth time in two days. The curses are creative and she is not nearly satisfied enough with them.
She sets her phone down and takes a slow, steady breath.
"Still no answer?" James asks.
"Why would Bruce ever answer his phone? It's only about his missing grandson," Ivy gives a mean laugh.
James just sighs. "We'll figure it out."
"Oh, I know. I'm going to handle it myself."
He goes still, gaze searching her for any clue. "You don't mean... Cardinal, do you?"
"I can't think of any other sure fire option."
James let's a slow, resigning sigh out. "Me neither."
"How do you feel about getting Alex and helping me out a bit?"
"I - anyone to get our kids back. I just didn't expect it to be this."
Ivy laughs, "Who did?"
-------
Damian isn't sure what to expect, but he is positive something big is about to happen. He sits in the watch tower meeting room in his rarely used Corvid costume.
He watches as Batman lectures again about dedication.
There's a sense of calm, everyone is quiet.
The door to the meeting room slides open and a familiar figure stalks into the room with immaculate posture and silent steps.
A woman with her hair in two French braids and a costume long retired.
Cardinal.
Ivy.
"What are you doing here?" Batman asks sharply.
"Do not take an attitude with me, Batman," Ivy says cooly before she continues, "I'm here because my son is missing and you're here - giving a power point on dedication."
"It-"
"I am not done, keep your mouth shut," Ivy cuts in as she crosses her arms. "Children are missing and you're giving a power point that isn't even related. Your grandson is missing and you can't even answer my phone calls."
She gives a scoff as she strides forwards until she's six inches from Batman and staring into the white voids ghat are his cowl lenses.
"You're done, Batman. You are relieved of leadership in this mission."
"Excuse me?" Batman asks evenly.
Ivy gives a sharp and honeyed smile, sweet and venomous at once. "You heard me. Sit down and I'll take over leading to find the children."
"You can't just come in here and -" Super man starts.
"Clark Jonathan Kent, do not make me call Lois and tell her that you're wasting time finding her grand child," Ivy says evenly.
"You - You can't full name superman!" Beastboy gapes.
"I absolutely can. Now sit down, shut your mouths, and let's actually find those kids."
"You don't get to commandeer this, Cardinal," Batman nearly growls.
Ivy raises one brow, and Damian wonders if she's going to use mother and Pennyworth's tactics or Jason and Dick's.
"I do."
"And why, pray tell, is that?" Batman demands.
"Lose that tone right now you pompous furry," Ivy says as she lifts her chin to stare directly into his eyes. "I get to take over because you have been ignoring my calls and wasting time with power points."
"It's not wasting time -"
"YER GRAN'SON IS MISSIN', B!" She shouts loud enough to make the walls rattle as her gotham accent flares. She grits her teeth and takes a slow breath before she continues with far less accent, "If it isn't enough that more than twenty children have been missing for a week, your grandson is missing."
"I know -"
"I don't think you do, because this isn't a request. You're going to surrender command or I'm walking out of your life entirely and going to people that aren't heroes."
"Cardinal," Batman says evenly before he falls silent.
Damian can read it in his sister's stance and voice. She will make good on this. This is an ultimatum from the woman who despises ultimatums with her very soul... but Ivy has always been driven by love.
"Who could possibly help you if not us?" Asks a rookie.
"For starters? The league if assassinations, Rose Wilson, Slade is I pay enough, and most Gotham Rouges."
Damian raises his hand, "I will help you."
Cardinal softens just a little, mouth loosening. "Thank you, Corvid."
"This isn't a discussion," Batman says.
"It's a mutiny, actually!" Cardinal cheers as she claps her hands. "I won't blame you for the rift between us, but your grandson has been missing a week and you can't even answer the phone. What's it gonna be, Batman? Your pride or your family?"
Batman stares at her, jaw tight and arms crossing as a mirror to her own stance. He's silent as he challenges her.
Ivy does not falter. Why would she? She's here for her son, and Batman isn't as scary as others think.
Red Hood whistles, "God Damn, Birdie."
"Shut it, you haven't answered either," Ivy says without looking away.
"Cardinal, be reasonable. You aren't in a position to take command," Batman chides.
Ivy gives a snort that says all shethinks. "I'll bite. Why not, Batsy?"
Batman does not relax. He just starts counting off on his fingers. "You haven been an active hero in fifteen years, you don't know half of the active heroes, and you have other children to go home to-"
"You do not get to talk about my children, not while you're standing here with a cute little PowerPoint up. I'm still fit to be a hero. So, are you going to step down and choose your family? Or are you choosing your pride?" She asks cooly, voice made of the steel combined from both family legacies.
Ivy AL Ghul- Wayne, the one that chooses hee own path. She is the Demon's Hawk, one of Gotham's birds, and a meta.
"Cardinal," Superman tries. "Ultimatums-"
"I don't want to hear from you either, Clark. The number of people who have answered any of my phone calls does not include you."
"I've been busy-"
"Choose, Batman. You have sixty seconds before I choose for you."
Batman stares at her for a good four seconds.
He sighs, "I'll step down. What do you need?"
"Get me the stats on every frequent mercenary, Hero, mob boss, and villain," she says with a commanding tone that bears the steel of her mother and the daring of her father. "I'm going to make some calls, meet back here in an hour."
Therefore muttering as well as stares.
"You heard her," Corvid says as he stands.
Batman starts towards the doors and others follow.
Ivy takes her phone amd just before she can dial the first number she finds herself surrounded by the Bats amd Birds of Gotham.
"I can't believe you just strong armed Bruce," Dick breathes out, "Birdie that was - I am so proud of you."
She smiles tightly, "Thanks."
"I can't believe you're in costume again," Jason says as he stares at her.
"I can't believe I came in on a power point waste of time," she scoffs.
"We've been trying," Dick sighs, "But Bruce just..."
"I don't want to hear excuses right now. My son is still missing. My nieces and nephews are mimissing. The latest Bat drama hasn't been relevant to my life in years and it isn't going to be relevant now," Ivy says as she crosses her arms.
"Birdie..." Dick tries.
"You're right," Damian says. He is perhaps the only one she speaks to, and the only one who's semi retired. "What do you need me to do?"
Ivy softens, "I need you to start making a list of the heroes we can trust because there's at least one leak somewhere and we have to find it."
"We already looked, we eliminated three moles," Spoiler frowns.
"Look again, it's going to be someone's high up enough to get into my file amd find my children. The note I got was addressed to Cardinal. It isn't about Bats."
"Well I-" Dick frowns. "I didn't know that."
"Why would you?" She scoffs. "Damian, I want you to assume everyone is guilty until proven otherwise."
"Everyone?"
"Everyone," she nods. "Even the big three."
"Understood. Is Salem in the field?"
"No. You'll be contacted by my Tech support."
"Who?" Jason asks.
"Thats not something I'm telling people until they're cleared," Ivy says evenly.
"You don't trust us?" Dick asks. "You know us!"
"Do I?"
"Birdie..."
"Why do you trust Damian?" Time asks.
"Because I actually speak to him enough to recognize if he's a fake or a spy. I haven't spoken - really spoken - to any of you since I left the cape. I stopped muttering when I retired," Ivy rolls her eyes. "So I don't know any one else but Damian well enough."
"You still matter."
"You have a funny way of showing it," she says, "Now if you'll excuse me I have some people to call."
"Who?"
"The people I need to call to get the kids back," she says as she spins on her heel and exits the meeting room.
Damian watches her go and he wants to comfort her the way she always comforts him. He watches his big sister leave.
"What was that?" Time blinks.
"We haven't fallen that far out of touch," Stephanie scoffs.
"You have," Damian says firmly.

Ivy Wayne who drifts from her family after she retires her cape and moves to California. She loves them but they're so busy being heroes they forget to reach out.
The bat family loves eachother, deeply. With every complicated relationship the love is there!
Her family is so so proud of her for quitting and staying out. They're proud of her for becoming a therapist. They're proud if her. They live her.
The only family members that remember to reach out without a Holliday are Damian, Jason, and Cass and even they don't reach out iften. It's usually just a picture or a 'hope you're alive' text. It gets to the point where she only goes to family gatherings so her kids can see her family.
Honestly? By the two year mark of her retirement her family's coworkers and friends know more about her life. She was the baby sibling that the titans and outlaws loved or the baby girl the justice league loved.
Roy talks to her every few months, and he sometimes leaves Lian with her if no one else can take her. He visits when he's in town.
Starfire has an active social media friendship with her and sends thoughtful cards for birthdays.
Green Arrow is in Star city, he probably has the most contact with her. He's her Uncle Ollie anyway! He goes to as many events and parties as he can. He invites her over for visits.
Black Canary is also pretty in touch with Ivy, she sees her a lot and lives in Star Cuty with Oliver. She's a psychology mentor to ivy.
Hal Jordan is in Coast city, and he is close with Oliver so he sees Ivy at gatherings and probably has a social media friendship
Superman knows more about her life because even if he dosen’t visit often he does pay attention to the sound she and her family makes.
Wonder woman dosen’t live in California anymore but she visits sometimes so she swings by to see Ivy every so often when she's there. She exchanges emails sometimes.
One day someone asks Bruce about Ivy in front of the justice league and he just... dosen’t know? But Green Arrow does.
Someone asks Dick about his sister and he... has no idea what her plans are for her vacation? He didn't know she was planning one? But Starfire knows!
Jason dosen’t know that Ivy broke her femur last week but Roy does.
Tim isn't sure what she's doing with her tach skills but Cassie does because Diana was talking about it.

Ivy Wayne is NOT a daddy's girl. Oh sure, she loves him dearly, she trusts him, but she ISN'T a Daddy's girl.
She's a Big Brother's girl. She will ALWAYS run to Dick and Jason for help or advice first. She will Always seek their approval First.
After she comes back... she suppress it but it's there.
But more than just a Big brother's girl, she's Jason's girl.
She adores Dick, she thinks he's awesome but when she was going through her own rebellion Dick was something else and Jason wasn't.
Jason was right there, teaching her life skills and PROMISING to help her run away if it gets bad.
Jason is who she Most imitates as an older sibling. You see plenty of Dick in there too sure, but Jason is louder.
When she gets married (and forgets to tell her family) she has Jason as a witness.

When Ivy Wayne leaves behind the vigilante life she leaves behind all of it. Unfortunately that means she drifts away from her family until all she has is stilted birthday calls and strained Thanksgiving and Christmas.
When she loses her wife and a close friend to a hero mission she drifts even further. She won't even touch case files to help anymore. She's done
When Ivy has a platonic marriage to her best friend/ platonic soulmate she drifts even further because she's grieving and it's her three best friends and retired teammates that help her. Not her family, not really.
Ivy would have stopped calling the way that her family but her kids deserve to know their family too. So she keeps trying.
She's a suburban mom on the pta now, she's a youth therapist with a specialty in foster kids. She stays fit and she still could fight most people but she Dosen’t anymore. She'll clock a mugger but she's not chasing robbers.
Any you know what her family thinks? They are all SO PROUD of her. She's the first of them to actually Leave and Stay out of the cape life. She's the only ome to leave and not get pulled back in.
Bruce NEVER wanted his kids to make their life mission justice the way he has. Unfortunately through trauma and his own mistakes many of them have (because they think THAT'S what Bruce wants and it Isn't.) He's so proud of her. She has a good life and a good support system. She finished school and contributes to her community. She has firm boundaries and she dosen’t take shit. His baby girl is exactly what she WANTS to be.
Dick is grateful. He always wanted her to be safer than he was. He lost her once he couldn't do it again. He's so proud of her for following her heart and not getting stuck like he has. Dick is the first child hero, but she was the first to leave volluentarily and stay gone. He misses her but he would never try to trap her again.
Jason is so proud he screams it from the rooftops. If anyone asks where Cardinal went he just says she retired like she deserves. Jason is HAPPY his sister is both out of the cape AND out of Gotham. He's jealous that he couldn't find the security of self to separate from the mask but he doesn't hold it against her. That's HIS Baby Sister and she took her life by the balls and made it what she wanted!
Tim is jealous, sure because anytime he gets out he gets dragged back, but he's proud of her. He's never seen anyone retire with an injury and stay that way but here she is doing it. He's so proud that she Beat The Odds. She's part of why he hopes he can get out for good before it kills him.
Damian is SO PROUD of Ivy. That's his big sister and she made something of herself the hard way. She didn't follow the easy path that either family legacy gave her, instead she worked really hard to forge her own path. She is Damian's role model and his hope to be able to become the doctor he wants to be. He's proud of her choosing herself. He's proud of her getting her degree. He probably talks to her the most, even if it's strained. He goes to every major event for her and her kids and he visits them once a year but it's still a stilted relationship. He still dosen’t call often.
Cass is proud too, she understands Ivy on a deep level and can SEE how much better this new life is for her sister. She's glad her sister chose herself and she always sends cards with long messages because even if they don't talk much they're family. She's so incredibly pleased that her sister was able to choose her own path even if it lead away.
Duke is happy for her! He is, he just is always so busy he can't really stay in touch. He's glad she's raising her kids somewhere safer and he's got her psych school graduation picture framed. He looks up to her, as an example of choosing your own path, even if his path IS vigilantism. He dosen’t understand her life anymore but he's glad she's happy.
Steph probably understands the choice to leave the best. She jealous and a little resentful because Steph had to Fight to be accepted as a hero and Ivy didn't so why woukd Ivy just leave? But Steph sees the appeal. She is glad the kids are out of Gotham, it's just a lot of inner issues at play... but she isn't mad, she doesn't hold it against Ivy.
Babs is with Jason. She is SO PROUD of Ivy for getting out and making a life for herself. She understands the cost and strain of her life. She knows what it's like to lose it all. She's so incredibly grateful one of her girls left before it killed them.

Working out longterm lore for my hero team and it's fun! (Lie)
Cardinal/ Ivy Wayne retires fully at 21 and moves to Cali with her wife and son
Her wife retires a year later
Within two years the other four of their Teammates retire and move out to California and keep their found family/ community
A year after the last of them retires there's a world ending emergency and everyone but Ivy takes their cape up again (Ivy can't go she says someone has to be around for their kids)
Two if then die (Pandora / Aurelia amd Gold/ David)
This leaves Ivy and her best friend James with dead spouses and children to raise.
A year after that Ivy and James marry eachother PLATONICALLY. There's a whole list of reasons, mostly about guardians of their children and spouse rights
So now it's four retired heroes
Ivy and James raise their kids together, both parents to all kids. (The kids are 6-2 at this point when they marry)
Bella and Alex are married too but no kids

Au where instead of taking the blame for the good soilder memorial to save Ivy from having to know Alfred did that Bruce tells the truth. Bruce, relived that his daughter is still alive and human and loving if a little violent, tells her the truth.
So she starts DIGGING.
She finds out Alfred is why Tim is Robin.
She finds out about the DAUGHTER Alfred abandoned
She finds out a LOT
And she gets really fucking mean with Alfred. And you know what? Damian follows her lead because that's his big sister and he trusts her.
Bruce and Dick are just over here like "??"
Tim just supposes Ivy has issues
Ivy just claims she only has ONE living grandfather, and at least he OWNS his shit actions.

Au where Ivy Wayne ditches the league at 16 with Damian (7) in tow and just... raises him herself and manages to stay out if the leagues grasp AND off the bat radar.
She's convinced she's a monster until someone gets to Damian and takes him so she goes to the league AND the bats for help, most of the bats Don't know that she's alive OR about Damian lol
So she just calls the Bat cave on her actual cellphone and is like 'hey Bats, I need your help sorry I ran away'
And it's Red Hood who answers and is like 'who is this?'
And she's like 'nice try no names on the line. It's Cardinal although I've been Mia for a while-'
Jason loses his shit cause his sister is supposed to be gone. Did she also get yoinked by the LoA
Bruce comes home to every bat adjacent person and quite a few of their friends LIVID because he knew
Damian is just chilling wherever he's been taken like 'You took me because of Batman and Ra's but you better hope they find you before my sister :)'
And it just spousal from there (And Ivy has an intense distrust of petty much everyone because she's been running for like ten years)

"One day I will be whelmed." Andi sighs as she lets Cassie stitch her up.
"What is it with you and 'whelmed'?" Konner groans.
"It's the ideal state." Andi says helpfully.
"Stop talking so much." Cassie warns as she keeps working on stitching up the gaping wound that isn't healing at the usual pace thanks to the power suppressing injection that hasn't worn off yet.
"Alright I grabbed the kid." Tim says as he walks in with Andi's baby brother in tow.
"Andi?!" Henry gasps as he rushes over.
"Hey."
"Easy kid she's got a power inhibitor serum in her." Konner snorts.
Henry just looks generally horrified. "What?"
"It's gonna be fine, kiddo." Cassie says as she glances over from her work.
"Yeah she's just staying here for a day or two for study. Anyway we wanted to make sure you weren't alone." Time nods.
"I'm twelve."
"Gotham isn't safe for anyone." Bart says.
"How'd you even get hurt?" Henry sighs heavily.
"Ah, ypu know, kevlar isn't magic sword proof?"
"Andromeda, you are killing me." Cassie sighs.
"Here I can take over." Bart offers.
"Almost done." Cassie waves off.
"I'm still not sure how you can stay so still for stitches without pain killers." Henry sighs as he sits down by his sister.
"Practice mostly." Andi shrugs.
"We have pain killers." Bart sighs, "Even the kind for speedsters."
"You're wasting your breath. Andi dosen’t take that shit. Likes to save it for others."
"Wow, Batman lite much?" Konner snickers.
Andi mumbles something that sounds like a rejected hero name.
"What?" Bart blinks.
"I almost went by Speed Bat..."
Konner and Bart laugh at that while Henry snorts. All three look delighted.
"When did you pick up a cape?" Cassie snickers.
"Uh- like... eight? Then they caught me and pops had a fit. I officially started at ten."
"I would pay to see that." Tim says helpfully.
"I saw the tapes. Uncle D and his husband were on a black mail kick." Henry snorts.
"You wouldn't believe how terrifying papa could be when he was scared for us." Andi says fondly.
"Mh, I've seen my Dick get scary." Tim frowns.
"He's a Demon when he wants to be." Andi laughs weakly.
"Papa was pretty kick ass." Henry agrees.
"He's not too shabby here." Bart snickers.
"Ah, but he's not my papa here. Here he's some cocktail gymnast wearing my father's face and dating a princess." Andi says sagely.
"I mean... Your OG Universe sounds fucking wild." Konner laughs.
"Mm... yeah. The multivariate gets weird." Andi shrugs.
"You shoulda seen it before the end." Henry sighs.
"Ah why get depressed? We made it and we get to judge everyone." Andi snickers.
"True we have a much better shot of feeling the aster." Henry nods sagely.
"Why?" Cassie asks. "Why can't you let words be?"
"Where's the fun in that?" Andi laughs.

Do you understand that we will never be the same again?
Fandom: DC, Batman specifically
Characters: Ivy Wayne (oc), Bruce Wayne, Damian Wayne, Tim Drake, Jason Todd's Memorial
Relationships: Ivy Wayne & Jason Todd, Bruce Wayne & Ivy Wayne, Damian Wayne & Ivy Wayne
Summary: Ivy comes home after everything that happened in the league of Assassins, and she sees the infamous 'Good Solider' plaque. It doesn't go very well. (Aka: I'm not telling you good job dad this memorial was shit!)
Rating: T
Warnings: cursing, Lazarus pit side effects, bad coping, Good Solider memorial, mental illness, violence, Bruce Wayne is Bad At Communication, Damian Wayne is Bad At communication
Other: If I missed anything, please let me Also I wrote one of my favorite lines ever in this fic so even if you don't read it please know that I wrote a banger line: "...Bruce Wayne puts his foot in his mouth for breakfast..."
-------
Ivy lets herself get lead into the bat-cave with a soft smile, watching as Damian sees it all for the first time. The boy looks around in reserved awe, unused to things such as a giant penny or a dinosaur in a cave.
She thinks it's adorable.
She's got an ache in her chest watching her brother too, but that's okay.
Going to the cave without her big brothers is weird. But that's what's happening and she's not going to let it ruin her day. (That would be letting The Assholes win. Ivy doesn't do that anymore.)
She glances to where Tim Drake hovers by the Bat computer in a modified Robin costume with darker colors. She feels a swell of green rushing up and immediately squashes it down.
Robin is magic. It's power.
And Her Robin wouldn't want her punishing the new Robin.
Besides, her problems are far more to do with the adults than the kid.
"Ivy?" Damian prods as he turns to her.
She turns her gaze to her baby brother, "Yes?"
"Where is your suit?" Damian asks.
"Oh, unless they moved it it should be up there." She smiles as she motions to the elevated walkway with a row of suits in tubes.
The suits are all retired or last choice back-ups there, from every hero to have used the Bat Cave as a base.
"Well let us go examine it." Damian declares as he marches them forwards.
The boy moves like a general, not waiting for confirmation simply trusting his will to be followed.
Ivy follows her brother in perfect step with the younger.
Bruce trails after his kids, as of unsure what to do. Which seems fair, he hasn't seen his daughter since she died and he met Damian yesterday.
Ivy snickers when they pass the original Batman suit. The blast from the past is both nostalgic and hilarious.
She'd forgotten her dad had that cowl for a bit. (Thank god he changed it.)
The keep walking past retired or last choice Batsuits before the move into the suits Dick has used.
"What is this monstrosity?" Damian gapes as he stops beside the original Robin Costume.
The original costume is a sigh to behold, bright traffic light colors doing nothing to aid stealth. The glorified leotard with a button up shirt and pixie boots is certainly memorable.
"Ah yeah, Dick said pants took away from his aerodynamics." Ivy says with a snort.
"Those-" Damian screeches in abject horror- " are scaly underwear!"
"I don't know why Dick is like that." She shrugs. "He added pants later. He got cold."
Damian just gives her a dubious look before turning beck to the fashion crime that he just witnessed and pursing his lips.
They keep walking, passing several retired costumes.
Ivy stops to mourn the disco-wing suit, losing the respect of her baby brother for her adoration of the travesty of a suit. (She thinks that's a little rude since it was a little bit of a memorium to other heroes and also Iconic.)
She then says a quick farewell to the slutty titans costumes from That Era. Saying something about 'everyday was a tits out kinda day back then'.
Bruce just makes a face, wondering if this is somehow karma.
They pass a few more costumes, including her own, before stopping at Jason's memorial.
Damian had some thoughts about her costume she designed at age nine, sighting it rather impractical in the bright red but at least it had pants.
The memorial draws the attention of both siblings.
Bruce watches the children, unsure what to expect. Damian has never gotten to meet Jason... Ivy had adored the boy though.
Bruce just- he just hopes his daughter like the memorial. That it brings her closure to see her big brother remembered.
"Jason Todd." Damian reads the name on the plaque, only to continue "Good Solider."
Ivy stiffens, gaze snapping from the ruined suit to the polished metal.
The bloody uniform in the case feels like a slap in the face to everything Jason- and Robin- ever was. A tragic shrine to a death that was unearned and needlessly cruel.
She reads the plaque, 'In memory of Jason Todd. Second Robin. A Good Solider.'
Oh.
She feels her blood start to boil.
"What. The. Fuck?!" Ivy snarls as she whirls around on her dad, fighting the urge to bare her teeth in outright threat.
"Was he not a good solider?" Damian frowns, eyeing the case and wondering why they would bestow such a high title on someone who didn't earn it.
"He was a child!" Ivy snaps sharply as her eyes narrow while staring her dad down.
"Ivy it's just a memorial." Bruce says weakly.
He knows as soon as he says it that it was the wrong thing to say.
Ivy tilts her head slowly, almost predatory. Her eyes almost look green despite them having been a different color her whole life as far as he knows.
She turns back to the memorial slowly, eyes flicking back and forth between the destroyed suit and the plaque.
It's a betrayal to the highest degree.
Ivy can handle a betrayal against her.
This is again Jason.
She has never handled disrespect towards her people well. The fire in her veins demands payment and she can feel the green starting to rise again.
Ivy knows she should probably fight the green but she doesn't think she's wrong to be so upset. In fact- she thinks Jason would understand.
Her vision is starting to blur.
"Ivy." Damian says as he steps closer. "You are blowing this out of proportion-"
Ivy is swinging a fist at the glass before she can decide if she wants to. Green swims fully in her vision.
Her fist connects and cracks the bulletproof glass with a satisfying crunch.
"Ivy!" Bruce gasps.
The horror he feels at both the strength required to crack the case first try and the action in general are rising rapidly.
She likes the sound of the cracking glass. A frenzied- blood thirsty grin pulls at her face.
Green only gets stronger. Her blood starts to boil.
Ivy revels in the sting of her knuckles as she swings alternating punches at the glass until it shatters.
Someone grabs her arm and that's all it takes.
Green overtakes her and she loses herself. She can't see anyone.
She fights whoever grabbed her arm mercilessly. Slamming fists, knees, elbows, and kicks into their form.
Nothing is okay.
And then-
Then she's somewhere else, axe being pressed into her hands.
She can do this.
She feels someone directing her in a task she can't identify. She doesn't know much but her body moves to comply.
Who ever it is calling the shots has to be one of three people, so it's probably no more dangerous for her than usual. No more dangerous than poison.
-------
Damian sits a few feet from his sister, watching her chop the wood he set her up with. He would usually have joined her fight, but it seems bad form to kill their father.
He also doesn’t exactly understand what set Ivy off. The little metal plate seemed a kind memorial. What better to he than a good soilder?
She's been slowing down on the wood chopping for a bit, probably coming back to herself.
He's been out here with her for a few hours now and he still couldn't place the source of her wrath.
"Ivy?" Damian asks.
She turns slowly, eyes still almost glowing. "Dami?"
He ignores the rush of warmth hearing the Arabic term of endearment, knowing he needs to focus on other things. His sister is always too free with affection anyways.
She's not all back, but she's a lot more in control.
She very likely knows who he is and where they are though.
"Are you feeling better?" He asks.
She stares at him, brows knitting. Her memories seem to he returning as her eyes take on the same stormy hue as usual when upset. "Less foggy."
"Good."
"What... did I do?"
"Attacked Father."
"Fuck." Ivy groans.
"What set you off?" He asks. Far less afraid of her Pit Rage than most.
She sighs slowly, looking up to the sky. "Jason's memorial. They put that stupid fucken- Good Solider!"
"I do not understand."
"Good Solider!" Ivy snaps sharply, eyes flickering a toxic green glow and back to green grey stormy seas. "GOOD FUCKEN SO'LD'AH?! MY BROTHA WAS NOBODY"S FUCKEN SO'LD'AH!"
Her accent thickens and morphs into the Crime alley accent she hides. She's got her arms moving with her words.
"That seems to be a high compliment." Damian acknowledges.
"JASON WASN'T A FUCKEN SO'LD'AH! JASE WAS A KID! A FUCKEN KID WHO WENT 'N DIED IN A BLOODY FUCK UP CAUSE BRUCE IS TOO STUPID TA KILL JOKAH!"
"Father's reluctance to killing hardly constitutes a reason to put down the memory of a talented fighter."
Ivy gives him a look that promises she's taking a pound of flesh from someone.
Damian isn't scared though, he is in no danger. Not from his sister.
Instead, Ivy takes several slow and deliberate breaths. She's crossing her arms as she tries to reign herself in
He just waits. He knows it will all come with time.
"Dami," She says, soft despite her anger. She looks to him again, eyes free of Lazarus glow for the moment. She's obviously struggling with her accent when she asks, "If I died, would ya want my memorial ta be like Jason's?"
"What?"
"If I died, would ya want me to have a memorial just like Jason's?" She asks as she tries to fight back the accent further.
She has never liked the looks the accent earns her even though she's not exactly ashamed it is easier to hide.
Damian can not help feeling like this is a simple question. But the way she asks it- careful to phrase it...
He is sure he is missing something.
He clicks his tongue, "Tt, I would never let your uniform be displayed in such dis-repair."
She snorts, "Glad I'm not the only one who thinks it was distasteful."
She's forced most of the crime alley out of her voice.
Damian watches her, trying to puzzle out her distaste of it all.
He agrees the ruined costume is tacky and maybe even disrespectful but the plaque seems respectful and of high praise.
"I can't believe dad." Ivy sighs heavily. "Reducing Jason to a solider. Oh that mother- Jason wasn't a good solider."
"Is the memorial a lie? Was he a bad fighter?"
Ivy gives a startled laugh, eyes falling to her brother. "No. No, Jase... Jase was good fighter, but he wasn't a solider."
Damian purses his lips again. He loathes to admit defeat but if he craves any chance at understanding he must. "If you want me to understand your upset, you must explain it better."
She just sighs. "I'm mad about the phrase good solider. It makes it sound like all Jason was. It's like that all Jase was to dad. A solider."
"So?"
Ivy grits her teeth for a moment.
Then she takes a slow shudders breath, reminding herself as firmly as possible that for every wrong she's feeling right now Damian isn't involved. Remembering that her brother isn't the one behind it and is in-fact just a kid looking for answers.
Damian doesn’t get it, but he does know she's beyond upset.
"If I died and my memorial only said "Ivy Wayne, good solider... how would you feel."
"Angry your name was messed up." Damian huffs. "You are an Al Ghul. Your name is Ivy Al Ghul- Wayne."
She huffs, "Thank you. But if all it said was my name and good solider... what then?"
He does not understand the sudden surge of protest in his mind. If he were with anyone else... He wouldn't even bother trying to untangle it but he's been working on trying to understand feelings with his sister.
So... Damian thinks.
Good Solider... that is high praise and if his sister was memorialized that way in the league it would be an honor.
His sister is a fierce Warrior, one of the only teachers he hasn't surpassed. She's their grandfather's beloved Hawk. She's the only person he's seen hold their own in fights against their mother and grandfather both.
Though, the softer- sentimental part of him that he ignores often disagrees.
His sister is a Warrior... but she is more.
She's the only person who has been truly and unfailingly loyal to Damian as a person and not as an Al Ghul. She sang him lullabies and held him through his most embarrassing nightmares.
Ivy may have taught Damian to throw knives with deadly precision, but she also soothes his tears.
"I would tell stories... You are a Warrior to behold, riati... but I would tell others about you outside fighting."
Ivy gives a bitter sweet smile, the kind she gives when he's said the right thing but it doesn’t help anything. "That's what's wrong, Damian. They've memorialized him as a fighter and stripped away everything else."
"Oh." He says as his brows knit.
"Yeah."
He looks up to her, trying to find the words to express the twisting feeling in his chest. "I am... sorry."
She shakes her head. "It's not your fault."
"I know." He agrees.
"So.... how badly did I attack dad? Is he hurt?"
"Of course he is. You rarely miss." Damian says with pride he doubts he will ever lose.
His sister is amazing like that
"How badly hurt?"
"Broken ribs. Broken wrist. Broken nose." He shrugs. "Not too bad."
"Oh god." She cokes off, blood draining from her face.
"What?"
"I- I am so mad at him but I- I didn't wanna break his nose or ribs or anything."
"He will heal and get over it."
"I don't know that he will... I guess I should go face the music."
"If he makes a fuss I can always seek retribution for you."
Ivy gives a soft smile, "Thank you, bit that's really not necessary. Things are different here."
"We will see. Perhaps you can tell me absolutely Jason later."
"Maybe. I should go see how it's gonna go."
-------
Bruce sits in the cave searching the data base for information on the Falcones with Tim at his side when he hears Ivy coming down the stairs.
Tim stiffens, glancing to Bruce.
He shakes his head to the boy. No reason to react before they know what's going on.
He tenses, though, unsure how this is about to go. He doesn’t want to fight his daughter, but he won't let her attack Tim.
Ivy comes down, arms crossed across her test and shoulders raised. She stares at the floor though, which is a point towards no more physical altercation.
"Ivy?" Bruce asks.
She looks over, face a mix of afraid and angry. "Dad."
"What are you doing down here?"
"I wanted to talk. Maybe explain." She shrugs halfheartedly.
"Oh?" Bruce grunts.
"First of all, that memorial is shit." She scoffs.
"You had no right to wreck it." Bruce says evenly.
She takes a slow breath. "I'm not here to argue."
"Good. Then you know what you did was wrong and you shouldn't have attacked me."
Ivy grits her teeth, eyes flashing the toxic green from before as she takes a slow breath again. "I apologize for attacking you, I thought I was over the pit rage episodes."
"What?" Bruce croaks.
He knows, logically, that his daughter was put in the Lazarus pit. He was unaware she had negative side effects but he should have expected it.
"I got too upset and Pit Madness took over. I know that's not an excuse and I am sorry. Even if that memorial is a blatant disrespect to Jason... I shouldn't have attacked you."
"Pit... madness."
"Yes. I know I fucked up-"
Damian is hurdling down the stairs, sword on his back and a challenge in his eyes. He looks ready for a fight when he sees the hitch of his sister's shoulders.
He's caught by his arm, Ivy moving quickly. "Damian what the hell?!"
Bruce just blinks.
"Father was about to do irreparable damage with his words." Damian scoffs.
"Oh, sweetheart, Bruce Wayne puts his foot in his mouth for breakfast. I'm sure I'll live." Ivy says fondly, reaching out to ruffle her brothers hair as if he wasn't ready to engage in combat with Batman.
Bruce just watches. It's almost reassuring to see his daughter still has a soft spot for children but this is all so weird.
"Go back... you suffer pit madness?" Bruce frowns.
"Sometimes." She shrugs. "I'm working on it."
"So... the attack was pit madness?"
"I know it doesn’t excuse anything. But yes." Ivy says stiffly.
Damian is glaring again, as if challenging Bruce. Even with his elbow in his sister's hand he looks ready to pounce.
Bruce is struck for a moment by a memory. He can almost see Jason holding Ivy by her elbow all those years ago in an attempt to stop the girl from attacking a bully.
"We can talk about the pit madness later. That explains lot. I would still appreciate if you refrained from destroying memorials."
"That memorial was shit." Ivy scoffs again.
"That memorial is for my son."
"That memorial is for a fucking child solider, not Jason." Ivy says shortly.
Bruce flinches a little. His son has never been a solider. His son-
Alfred put up the plaque.
But the looks his daughter gives him is scorching, the kind of look that screams she's not going to forget this. That she will remember this and it's going to be something that cuts a divide between her and the culprit forever.
Bruce is faced with a choice, like he so often is.
He can choose to take the blame, and face likely irreparable damage to his just found relationship with his daughter.... Or He can tell the truth, and turn that firey rage on Alfred, and watch his daughter lose faith in the man who's basically her grandfather.
Bruce makes a choice to save other people, just like always.
"Jason was a fighter." He says stiffly.
Damian clicks his tongue at that. "Tt, clearly you don't understand the concept of empathy."
Ivy has to take a breath at that one. She's been working on Empathy with Damian for- years. In the environment Ra's Al Ghul provided it was an uphill battle both ways and in the rain. But he's come further. He's closer.
Damian is a little better at identifying complex emotions in his mother and his sister.
Bruce is floored, getting that retort from a child who threatened his protege last night is surreal.
Tim chokes on a noise, "What?"
"Damian, go upstairs for me, please. If you want I'll tell you about Jason later."
Damian gives her a considering look, as if searching for answers to a question he hasn't asked. Whatever he finds though is enough.
"I expect as much." The boy says before going back upstairs.
Bruce watches the temperamental boy storm upstairs with a frown. "That was... efficient."
"What was?" Ivy frowns.
"You're good with Damian." Bruce says. Trying to find the words he wants. "He's so temperamental. He challenged me to combat last night."
Tim nods. "Yeah he threatened me too."
"I'll talk to him. But you should understand he was raised by Ra's and Talia."
"I do."
"I don't know that you do. Also, if you ever make another memorial say Good Solider I'm going to feed your balls to a pack of rabid dogs while I make you watch."
"Excuse me?" Bruce gapes at the colorful threat that he can't be sure is actually empty.
"That's a shit memorial dad. Jason was more than a solider and if he saw that it would break his heart."
"Ivy..."
She gives a sharp, predatory smile that screams Talia. Ivy just blinks serenely. "No more child soldiers, Dad. No more shitty memorials."
"Kid..."
"I'm going upstairs because I'm losing my grip. Try to be patient with Damian." Ivy says before she storms back upstairs.
Tim turns to Bruce, frowning. "What was that? Why didn't you tell her Alfred put up the memorial?"
"It'd hurt her worse."
"Oh."
"I'm sorry you had to see that. And I'm sorry Damian threatened you."
"It's not your fault." Tim says. "I just... Don't remember Cardinal being so volatile."
"Some of that is the pit madness. She's doing very well with it all things considered." Bruce muses.
He can recall the way pit madness rots the mind. He knows how easily the Lazarus Pit corrupts completely.
He wonders how much of her control stems from the obvious need to protect Damian?
"She's right... That memorial is shit." Tim mutters to himself.
Bruce huffs.

Ivy and her time in the leauge did. Bullet point fic
Cw implied/referenced: murder, death, torture, child abuse
So obviously it brings her back.
Ivy died in a car accident at 12, a bloody cruel death. It was organized by the Falcone family to punish or piss of Bruce Wayne, not Batman. (It's okay Dick was there and held her and sang her a lullaby while Bruce panicked.)
She was taken to Talia, who used her leauge connections to revive her enough to be alive before being placed in the Lazarus pits.
So, she ended up with pit madness. It's mostly under control by the rime she leaves, but she still falls into boits of pit rage when scared or pissed off enough.
She was given a serum to genetically modify her DNA to boost her endurance and healing factor given by the pit. (She heals faster than most now. Broken legs heal in three days.)
She was given a second serum that gave her the meta gene via more genetic mutation.
Her meta gene manifested as energy fields that make almost impenetrable shields/ force fields.
After she left the lwauge she learned to throw the energy like statbolts but that took until like 18
She was brainwashed through various methods into becoming an actual gaurd dog. She became the perfect gaurd for Damian.
Become of the brainwashing Damian is the only one who can reach her when the pit takes over. He's her Primary Objective.
She was trained to be mostly immune to a majority of poisons. I bet you can guess how.
Ivy was actively trained by Talia and Ra's themselves in combat and strategy.
She leaned to hide weapons in any outfit.
Her moral compass was broken down and she was made to kill. Her first kill was to protect Damian.
She became even better at stealth.
Despite her questionable morals, Talia loves her children deeply. She never faulted her daughter for tears. She never faulted her children for being human.
Ivy learned what having a mother was. She learned what it's like to have a parent that would never hesitate to rip the world apart limb from limb in a trail of blood for you.
She learned how to bear every hurt her family shouldered her with because they're still family.
Ra's favors Damian, but Ivy is still his. He still sees his granddaughter and the blood of the Bat. He definitely sucked but was as soft with her as he is actually capable of.
Ivy learned how to handle being whipped over and over days in a row with whips, chains, and floggers. Nothing sexy, it was public punishment. (Always handled out by Ra's so at least as fucked up as it was there wasn't some fuckes up sexual thing from the punisher's end.)
Ivy learned to be a big sister. She learned how to try to minimize trauma and how to gentle parent.
She learned how to distract and redirect.
She was taught to resist torture far more in depth than the verbal lessons and text books she got from Bruce. (Guess how. If you guessed Ra's Al Ghul's A+ (grand) parenting you're right!)
She became hyper independent

Ivy Martha Wayne had a public persona that is sorta wild.
Not a party girl
Not a bitch
Not a bimbo.
More like a feral gremlin who has a soft spot of those in need and a fascination with psychology.
This persona is dubbed "Ivy, Wayne Princess". It's a joke but it's not.
She has publicly punched men creeping on minors.
She's diagnosed the shady older women with 'bitch-itis' before describing the effects of daddy issues and too much money without any therapy.
She is publicly three seconds away from starting a fight with words or fists any moment.
You might think, how does being feral help hide her hero life?
She's so ready to fight in her civillian persona no one thinks she needs a vigilante persona.
Also she is publicly exes with her hero persona so that's fun.

I hope you know that after Ivy acquires a child she just- forgets to tell her family.
Her team knows, of course. The team is her childhood friend and roommate, her girlfriend, her friend and roommates boyfriend, two more close friends. They all come over every weekend or go on missions.
Jason knows too because he came to help.
But no one else does for like, two months she just forgets to tell them and then assumes they know.
Jason dosen’t tell cause it's funny.
So ivy shows up to Thanksgiving with a baby and acts like it's normal.
Also she got married after she adopted the kid, they're planning a ceremony for later though. She's changing her last name too.
(The baby is named Jason 'Jay' Alfred Clearwater. He grows up so loved)
So her family is thrown for a loop
Bruce gets to feel a little karma for how many kids he sprung on Alfred.
