MIXD ISSUE #2: HEALING now available to order!  we are so excited to share it with you - A mixed-race compilation zine, MIXD zine is a text & art-based space by & for mixed-race people of colour exploring questions and understandings of mixed-race experience(s), embodiment(s), histories & resistance. - “Healing” is the theme of issue #2, and features writing, visual art, and poetry by 15 mixed-race contributors from across Turtle Island. With this issue, we wanted to explore: - What healing & care has and could look like on an (inter)personal, intergenerational, and ‘community’ basis - Challenging the notion of healing as possible, as mandatory, as having a time limit, as equating to ‘forgive & forget violence’ - The grounding of struggle and resistance as inherent to collective healing processes, within contexts of white supremacy and colonialism, and against systems and institutions of domination: e.g. prisons, the police, the anti-immigration system & the settler colonial state. - Printed on beaut high gloss paper! Covers are printed on beige and shimmery grey card stock (surprise for you~)! #wegotshmancy - price & shipping You might’ve noticed a bit of a price jump. For this issue, we’ve moved beyond the ‘at printing cost’ model in favour of intentionally paying it forward to everyone who helped make this project possible! We are asking for contributions of $7-10 per copy with all profits raised going towards honoraria for contributors, mixd zine collective members for their time and energy, visual artist (Ms.Holmes), and graphic designer (Andira H). If you are Black and / or Indigenous and / or you are a low-income POC and these fund$ aren’t feasible for you - no worries, we’ve got you. Just shoot us a message to talk further. :) xoxo MIXD Zine Collective etsy~ facebook page~ [email protected] for Qs & <3

stumped? here are some more prompts / themes-to-explore for submissions!
!! there's one week left to get yr submissions in for MIXD #2: healing !!
here are some prompts / ideas (that came out of our collective visioning meeting) to explore! (*content heads up: anti-blackness, colonialism, trauma, colorism, violence, racism more generally*) - seeking / finding identity & validation - addressing anti-blackness & colorism (at large, and within / as perpetuated by non-black people of colour (NBPOC) and under the "BIPOC community" umbrella / label) - the specific evolution and relationship of colonialism & (geographic / cultural) context in relation to our identities and existence - assimilation - intergenerational trauma - lateral violence & internalized racism (in relation to blackness: "new black" rhetoric / respectability politics / liberalism) - re-tracing histories / not knowing histories - colonialism & slavery - histories of resistance & subversion, (learning from and acknowledging / building relationships with) elders / those before us - the limitations of umbrella terminology / ideology: erasure, flattening of geographies of violence, assumed (and not met) solidarity - being 'other'; inhabiting liminal and often un(der)recognized and un(der)represented spaces / bodies / identities - the limitations of thinking of ourselves (only) in race percentages - how dividing and separating yourself can contribute to seeing ourselves as "not one whole being" and flatten complexities of embodiment and experience - the tendency of flattening race and history complexities in to just "black" - without further examination / without further specificity - mixed race folks / BIPOC (/not) being able to cut ties to toxic people / institutions for various reasons - in relation to safety, access to (vital) resources etc. (ties to white people and / or other non-white people also pulling anti-black, anti-native, colorist shit, being abusive, + )
healing (individual / community) strategies: - healing looks like stopping cycles of violence and destroying institutions & systems of domination and exploitation(!) (exploring & grounding struggle / resistance as (inherent to) collective healing processes - within contexts of white supremacy, anti-blackness, & colonialism, and against systems / institutions of domination: e.g. prisons, the police, the anti-immigration system & the settler colonial state.) - (depleted) capacity (care / exhaustion / being drained - often permanently, with no end in sight / in relation to continual violence & trauma) - awareness as vital to survival - how to approach talks and engaging with heavy [stuff] - the violence & harm that can be perpetuated when these are not consensual. - mental health - (creation of) intentional spaces / relationships / 'community' - emotional labour / making and holding space as care for other BIPOC friends and people in our lives - reaching out / educating in ways that centre our well-being and safety - healing as not (necessarily) being linear or having a time limit - what support looks like, what solidarity looks like, what celebrating & rejoicing in ourselves and each other looks like <3
*NBPOC = non-black people of colour *BIPOC = black (&/or) indigenous (&/or) people of colour fb: https://www.facebook.com/events/161782287504030/ email submissions to [email protected] by DEC. 15th !

*HERE IT IS.* A POC space for folks to share their stories–fiction, non fiction, poetry, prose, art, comics, photos–on the unique experience of growing up brown with a white father. This is a compilation where those of us have experienced erasure in so many spaces can speak on what is like to be a person of color, while your father stands on the other side of privilege and patriarchy in a colorist society. Open to all POC with white dads (mixed race, adopted or otherwise). Check out the page for more info and feel free to reach out with questions.

hey mixed-race folks & friends, i wanna start working on the call for submissions for MIXD zine #2 (finally ha)! what topics would you like the read about / explore (more) / have (more) conversations around (through writing and or visual art)??
comment below or feel free to pm me :>
~*~*~*~*~
the 1st issue had a lot of personal narratives / experiences, which were super vulnerable brave n awesome - in this issue i'm hoping that those can be linked to broader Struggle (capital s~ lol) / contexts / nuanced politics, and maybe be laid out in a more structured way.
