A blog for work produced as part of the Introduction to Animation module of GCU, and perhaps some other from the overall course. Also contains reblogs of animations/art which I find inspiring :)

Anim for Fun - A 20 ans [Anniversaire 2016]

1. Ah Fai was a chief animator for McDull’s animated features. He’s super cool. Ultimate senpai.
2. Previous post on breakdowns right here
Some thoughts on acceleration and force
I presented this in the order of how I slowly understood the trick of delivering force - first an abstract concept of impact taught by Ah Fai, then a more complicated discovery on the acceleration pattern, last back to a more abstract concept of breakdowns.
Like I’ve previously stressed, 2D animation is everything but one single approach. There’s no one rule that rules them all, but interchangeable ideas with math, or physics, or music, etc. There’s no “perfect” animation either, but what is perceived as organic and dynamic. E.g., using the Fibonacci numbers to animate didn’t bring me a perfect animation! On the other hand, a tiny change in the pattern could already make the feeling of force so much more powerful.
Not so much of a tutorial than a personal experience. I hope you find this interesting hahaha

ItA - Coursework - Clumsy Goddess, by M. Jeantet
Well here’s the final thing I’ll be submitting. Since I didn’t have the time to animate everything I wanted to animate (but still have the minimum time required) and wanted the thing to make a bit of sense, I added the storyboards that were not animated to kinda understand what’s going on.
Eh, have to say, as much as it has flaws, I worked to my best effort and for a first semester trying to use Flash/Animate, I’m quite happy with the result x).
Enjoy !

ItA - Clumsy Goddess - SB18 - RunCycle Breakdown (Rough)
I’m almost done with what I had the time to animate (I have the minimum amount of seconds but since I had no real difficult animation except for the jump I’m in the state of mind that what I have doesn’t really count), and readying myself to do a quick runcycle for good practice and to have proper full body animation in the short. Stay tuned, video with audio coming on Monday at the latest ~
Bless be Richard Williams’ book “The Animator’s Survival Kit”, shame I only got it two days ago xD

ItA - Clumsy Goddess - Work In Progress - SB_38 - Close-up ‘Almost There’
While I’m busy working on other scenes and slowly appreciating Animate (WHO WOULD HAVE GUESSED, but hey, finally had the epiphany I was waiting for so I’m getting a better hang of it :D), I decided I’d post the audio-less close up of Kassie reaching into the air, ready to catch the Weather Control Lightning. The way I made the scenes I actually will end up putting that close up in Sony Vegas/Premiere rather than flash itself but it’s there.
Work in Progress posts, just because.

ItA - Clumsy Goddess - WIP - Animation Breakdown (Rough1) - SB36-40
Trying to see how animating this scene will work... Messy & sketchy as can be, but it helps xD! Will look at actual jump animations for improving this. And will most likely make use of Squash & Stretch for that one :) Background not final either, but want to keep all the refining near the end.

ItA - Clumsy Goddess - WIP - Introduction (SB_1-3)
Working away on Clumsy Goddess, roughs of the introduction/exposition (panels 1-3 of storyboards). Will need to polish everything up evidently, but getting a sense of what’s going to look like what :) Need to do actual animation though, so polishing & refining will come near the end. Just like adding music & sounds.

Clumsy Goddess_SB12-15_Rough-Week12 Five seconds (roughly) scene that was to be done for today. Unfortunately due to other coursework and repetitive low amount of sleep (none last night), I was not able to work on this as much as I wished. It is still very sketchy, the timing isn't superb, the tweens are not implemented, but it gives a basic idea of what happens. Refinements more than needed.
