taehongie:
“aish— i hate you right now, again,” taehong pouted just like a real kid this time, but it wasn’t long before he was smiling at the other by the kiss on the tip of his nose, minjoon’s action being able to rip out a kind of coo from the younger. “you say that like i don’t love everything you do, simply,” he knew he had just contradicted himself, but it wasn’t like something new either. “hey, come on. if i get you out of the party now mostly that we have just made up, kangmin will end up cutting my head later,” he rolled his eyes, leaving a quick kiss on his boyfriend’s lips before pulling him, one arm still wrapped around his waist, getting back to the same sofa he’d been sitting on before, his friends mocking them and winning a taehong stretching his tongue out at them.
minjoon knew there was no real poison behind taehong’s words so he didn’t mind them that much, his smile widening a bit once he reassured him he’d probably love minjoon’s project. he probably would, but the older male didn’t want to assume anything beforehand. scoffing at his next words, he quickly scrambled to return the kiss before letting himself be pulled by taehong back to their table, rolling his eyes with a little smile on his lips as he heard their friends’ mocking voices, sliding into the seat beside taehong once again, but now way closer to each other than before. “hey, shut it, you assholes. just remind me to never try to plan a surprise for tae, ever again”, he voiced out to their friends, who just laughed before proceeding to make fun of them, but minjoon didn’t even care, an arm wrapping itself around taehong’s shoulders.

taehongie:
even if they did it all the time, if most of the coexistence between them was in fights taehong couldn’t say he was accustomed already. every time that happened, that one disappointed the other, he always thought it was the last time —– but somehow they always found their way to each other and things worked just the right way because it was them. and they worked together, in their totally weird and dysfunctional way, but they worked. taehong allowed himself to stand against the heat emanating from his boyfriend, face pressed against the spot between his clavicle and his neck when he giggles softly agaist the other’s shirt. “i can pretend i don’t know anything when you’re ready to give it to me, you know i’m a great actor, baby,” he raised his face enough to look at the older male closely. “is it a song?”
minjoon had to press his lips together to hold back a grin that wanted to present itself in minjoon’s face way too harder than acceptable, soon enough humming with taehong’s words in his ears. “kind of. maybe. i won’t reveal any more than what i’ve already given away, so don’t bother asking. all you know is that i’m setting up a surprise for you that’s not gonna leave you surprised at all”, he said, frowning a little before chuckling, shaking his head and leaving a kiss on the younger’s nose, which was enough to make minjoon smile immediately. “but you’re gonna like it. i think. actually, i hope you do.”

taehongie :
yeap, taehong’s mind shouted at him, next time you’ll just learn to trust your boyfriend. “i’m still mad at you, just so you know,” he says as his arms wrap around the older male’s waist and hugs him into his chest, hiding his face on his shoulder and giggling when he heard a few screams coming from the other side, his friends probably cheering for them and making the scene even more childish than it already was. “but i’m sorry i was an idiot, you didn’t deserve it, and you’re not a horrible boyfriend for me, you’re just… kind of off,” he frowned briefly, looking closely at the other. “but please, don’t you ever do that again, okay? you don’t know how many things went on in my head at those times that you were away and everyone kept asking if we were really good.”
even though he was supposed to be wary of his boyfriend’s actions, a smile appeared on his lips as soon as he felt his embrace, his arms coming up to wrap themselves around taehong’s body, chuckling a bit at the way too familiar voices of their friends cheering for them from a distance, and that led him to believe they’d been watching their discussion during the entire time. with his lips pressed together, he listened carefully to every single word leaving his mouth, shaking his head once he was finished, one of his hands coming up so he could run his fingers through taehong’s hair gently. “i won’t do it again, i promise. i just will have to refrain from making surprises for you, but... i think i can handle that. maybe”, he scrunched his nose, sighing afterwards. “now you know there’s something i’m doing for you and you probably already can guess what it is.”

taehongie :
taehong immediately narrowed his eyes at the other, still trying to organize what he had just told him into his own head. when he stepped closer to the other, it was to be able to hit his shoulder, not measuring the force of the act itself for that, and then doing it again. “you bloody dummy,” he muttered between his teeth. now he didn’t know if he was more angry with minjoon or himself. “why do you want to keep some secret from me when you know i’m the most paranoid person in this whole world?! you just want to die?” when he tapped minjoon’s shoulder again, he whimpered to himself. “i hate you, oh minjoon. why are you doing this?”
to say that minjoon was surprised when he started being hit by taehong was an understatement, and his eyebrows shot up as he tried to shield himself from his hits, biting his bottom lip to refrain from doing something as inappropriate as smiling at the other’s antics at that moment, but it was stupid, since he was soon enough letting out a small chuckle, at least happy that he wasn’t throwing harsh words at him still. “i’m sorry, taehong. and i’m sorry for being late, i really am. i just... almost lost everything and had to work doubled to keep everything in check and i lost track of time and i really wanted to keep this a secret, but... i guess i didn’t help with that either.”

taehongie :
“what part of what i’m fucking tired of…” he cut himself off in the middle of his sentence when the mind managed to process what minjoon had just said, his eyes widened a little because it was definitely not something he was expecting at all. “what did you just said?” he asked. now he was nervous, annoyed and surprised. all at once. and if anything, taehong wasn’t the kind of person who knew how to handle so many feelings like that all at once.
he waited for the younger boy to realize just what minjoon had said to him, his expression when he finally did making minjoon let out a breath he didn’t even know was holding, but he wasn’t relieved at all. “i... i said that the project i’m working on is for you”, he repeated himself, closing his eyes for a moment before sighing in defeat. “i wanted to keep it a secret from you, to be honest. make it a real surprise. but... i guess that’s not happening right now.”

taehongie :
“i’m tired of your excuses too, minjoon!” almost cut the other in the middle of his words because, couldn’t bear to simply hear him always repeating the same thing. wwhen he wasn’t in college, he was simply stuck at work and the cycle was repeated. taehong knew that his boyfriend was working hard to achieve his own dreams —– and encouraged him in everything, but it was one thing to work hard and another completely different was to forget the essential things. and he believed that he was essential in minjoon’s life. for god’s sake, they lived together for obvious reasons. “how the fuck can a bloody project be so more important that your friends?” he could feel, even if they were a little away from the crowding of people, strange looks on them. “more important than your own boyfriend?”
minjoon was getting more and more frustrated by the second, and at that point he just wanted to scream the truth at taehong, but something inside him said that it wasn’t the wisest decision he’d ever make. so he just stood there, looking directly into his boyfriend’s angry, probably also sad eyes, gulping at his harsh words that shook minjoon to the core. at last, he decided that he just couldn’t take it anymore. he would crack, and that wasn’t more important than telling taehong the truth, definitely. “it’s because the project is for my boyfriend”, he ended up saying, voice firm while he stared straight at taehong, a bit disappointed in himself for not being able to keep it secret until d-day.

taehongie :
he knows his relationship with minjoon has its issues, like any other relationship, and that dirty laundry is usually did at home —– but can’t hold back when he felt someone holding his wrist and knew exactly who he was by pulling the arm back from the elder’s contact without even looking at his face. “just like that?” he reproduced his words, an incredulous tone hidden between them, and he couldn’t believe that minjoon was questioning him about it. just as she couldn’t believe he’d traded him for a simply project. “if you don’t know, i’m here almost all night. i’m not ‘leaving just like that’ you’re the only one late here, you lost your head and forgot to tell your boyfriend that you’d be late, i don’t know, maybe all the fucking night!” when he finally looked at the other, taehong had more than just irritation in his eyes. “you shouldn’t even have come, would save all this bullshit that i’m tired of.”
he didn’t try to reach for taehong again after he pulled his arm back, only feeling guiltier as the words spilled from the younger’s mouth, and maybe he was right, but the things he had been doing were also important and he just didn’t want to spoil it and give away the surprise he’d been preparing for taehong for about two weeks and a half now. he was shaking his head as taehong finished talking, barely being able to hear him say those kinds of things. “i know, i know i did wrong and that i’m usually being an awful boyfriend for you, but... please. don’t go now. i wouldn’t have been this late if my project wasn’t extremely important. please, you have to understand that”, he tried to say, a frown still present on his forehead as he stared at taehong, hoping that he’d just drop it, but... who was he kidding? that was taehong they were talking about. he would keep it up for as long as he possibly could.

taehongie :
“yeah. you forgot. as always, you forgot,” now taehong’s tone as a little bit louder than before, showing that he was, indeed, upset enough. “you forgot me because of a damn project. but why i’m not that surprised, minjoon?” threw the sharp words toward the other as he returned his gaze, but they weren’t so closed in their own bubble of survival when taehong could hear one of his friends say, “take it easy, tae. he’s already here” and he rolled his eyes very deeply this time. that was enough. “sure, three hours later, but he’s here,” he averted his gaze from the minjoon to the glass in his hand, barely touched, but which he set aside because his throat was so closed at that moment that he wouldn’t be able to drink anything without feeling as it was dead on his mouth. “you know what, i’m going home. good night to all of you,” and he didn’t even look at his boyfriend as he pulled on his jacket of the back of the sofa as he started walking toward the front door of the house.
okay, now that seemed to be going a bit too far. taehong’s voice was getting gradually louder and minjoon didn’t know what to do. even though he himself knew what he had been busy with, taehong’s words felt like daggers digging into his chest and ripping his heart apart; it was awful, and he didn’t want to go through that once again. their relationship wasn’t easy, but they made it work most of the time. times like this terrified him. he heard one of their friends say something, and before he knew it, taehong was getting up and saying that he’d leave, and it took a while for minjoon to finally react, getting up to his feet and quickly running after his boyfriend. “taehong, wait!” he called out to the other, finally coming close enough to grab his wrist and stop him from walking anymore, frowning deeply as he stared at him. “please don’t... are you really gonna leave, just like that?!”

taehongie :
he narrowed his eyes at minjoon as heard him, unable to believe what his ears were hearing. the younger let out a totally forced laugh escape his lips. “you can just be kidding me,” he tried not to make a scene out of it. really tried. but it was taehong we were talking about, so it was the hardest thing we could ask from someone like him. “you didn’t even thought it would be a good idea to warn me, send me a text or anything?” did you know how to stay here alone was like being devoured alive, his mind completed quietly. he trusted minjoon, he really trusted him —– but the other wasn’t giving him any reason to keep that trust lately.
minjoon raised his eyebrows when he heard taehong’s sarcastic laugh -- he could do that very well -- and then his indignant words that made minjoon just want to tell him the secret right away, but he refrained himself from doing so. pressing his lips together, he shook his head quickly, drinking more from his glass. “i’m-- i was really immersed in what i was doing so i didn’t really notice anything else until i was done. and then when i realized what time it was it was... well, too late”, he tried to explain himself, a frown on his face as he turned to look at taehong again.

taehongie :
taehong moved a little bit uncomfortable when the other sat down next to him, really thinking about getting up from there and going find another place to stay; but that would only make the impression that something was really wrong with them so he chose to stay there (as if the visible distance between them was no longer speaking for itself). he rolled his eyes when he heard minjoon’s excuses, for the first time staring directly at him since he’d entered the room. taehong was really trying to check him out, but only got even angrier when all he realized was how tired the other was; how more tired he appeared every day. “were you on campus? until now?!”
something in taehong’s eyes definitely wasn’t right and minjoon was positively scared of what that could mean. of course, he was very late, but minjoon was late very often. he should’ve been used to it by now, right? shaking his head at his question, minjoon thought his reply over to not reveal too much. “no, i was home. but i was still working on a project, so...” he trailed off; it wasn’t a lie, but it wasn’t the complete truth either. it was good enough.

taehongie :
that party was no longer a party for some time taehong, who was only sitting in one of the corners of the fuller room with a glass that lasted all night in his hand, he didn’t even know what it was since one of his friends who pushed it to him the moment he got there. was already tired of all the times he had to answer about where minjoon was, and when he said that the other was just a little bit late the look that people directed him wasn’t at all something he was looking for, as if there was something wrong with them —– and maybe they have. it was only when he heard his boyfriend’s voice that he raised his face, trying not to show much irritation at his presence now when he mumbled a “as always” under his breath, but didn’t even bother to compliment him.
minjoon had to bite his bottom lip when he heard taehong’s irritated voice sounding sharply through his ears and he avoided answering anything at all, only sitting down beside him, in a place that their group of friends naturally opened up for him. it was awkward, yes, but it wasn’t like minjoon didn’t have a reason. he just couldn’t say what it was to taehong in the near future. one of his friends was soon enough shoving a glass into his hands and filling it with something that he didn’t know what was, but he drank a bit anyways, pressing his lips together afterwards. “i’m really sorry. i would’ve come earlier if i weren’t so busy”, he muttered to taehong when he turned his head to glance at him.

minjoon already knew the storm that awaited him as he entered the place were the party was being held, looking around while he walked for a moment in search of taehong and their friends. the thing is, he wasn’t even fashionably late. he was late as hell and he knew it, but he couldn’t have done anything to arrive the party earlier -- he was just happy it was still going. once he finally found them, he quickly approached the group, an apologetic smile on his lips as he gave everyone a nod and then fixed his gaze on taehong, voice directed at all of them. “hey. sorry i’m late. got caught up with something.”

taehongie :
taehong made a brief grimace at the mention of money —– well, this was something that always seemed to be a problem anyway. “it’s okay! i can take double shifts over the weekend to be able to get back the money we spend, i don’t really care! and once you’re here, she’s not going to be so alone,” he said. a big smile on his lips, as if he had everything organized in his own mind (and he really had). “and also, the owner of the salon said that if i got one of those cages, you know? i have no idea what the name of it is… anyway, she let me take her there and she could stay in the laundry until she get used to our apartment!” with one arm, he hugged minjoon’s waist, holding him close while his other hand played with solar, her little teeth not even tickling at the tips of his fingers. "this is a good idea, really. solar’s going to go shopping!”
minjoon was a little hesitant at letting taehong just take shift after shift on the salon to try and get their financial state up -- and he really appreciated it --, but he didn’t want his boyfriend to overwork himself and also, that would keep them away from each other even more than usual, which was definitely not a good thing. but he knew there was no arguing, so he just offered the younger boy a smile when he heard him talking about taking solar to his workplace. “that’s great. we can’t leave her alone, or else she’ll end up eating the door and escaping from a chewed up apartment”, he joked, smirking before watching closely his interaction with the dog, his smile widening a bit before he was laughing. “aish, this is really not gonna be good for my heart. i don’t think i can take this cuteness overload of you and solar at the same time.”

taehongie :
taehong ended up just laughing even more when he noticed minjoon’s reaction, and somehow, that also seemed to be fun to solar eiter. he ended up rubbing his face against her neck that wasn’t covered by the small dress she wore, who tried to bite his face at all costs during the affection. “i said she was the cutest!” he states his statement, looking back at minjoon again and even as he released the dog on the couch, she still stood there looking at him and trying to reach them with both her paws —– she was clearly wanting to play, but taehong was suddenly busy as he pulled minjoon into his lap, letting the body become accustomed to the cold (actually warm to himself) temperature coming from the older male. “we need to buy a lot of things! she needs more food too, my friend just gave me a little so she could survive until tomorrow. but let me tell you that she eats like a monster.”
minjoon quickly realized that maybe the best thing about having a dog with them was being able to watch as taehong acted extra cute with her, and he could coo at it in his mind all he wanted. great, he thought with a small fond smile hanging on his lips. however, as soon as she was left on the couch once again, minjoon felt himself being dragged closer and he didn’t mind that at all, only smiling more with the proximity as he watched his boyfriend’s face, hearing his excited words about shopping for the dog. “that sure is a lot of money”, he muttered, scrunching his nose for a moment, but soon enough he was chuckling, shaking his head a bit. “we’ll go out to get everything tomorrow. you can even buy a leash and collar on your way back from work and then we’ll enjoy my classes-free afternoon and go shopping with her.”

taehongie :
as he heard his boyfriend denying what he had just said, he looked up again at him only to see him approaching, not even having a chance to look away because he was being coerced by the hand the other kept on his neck to face him in the eye as he listened to everything he was saying and felt his heart begin to heat up again. tae nodded briefly, agreeing with everything he’d said before a smile began to make way for his lips. “i can’t believe i have the most perfect boyfriend of them all,” he lifted one hand so he could pull the other by the collar of the shirt he wore until he could press their lips together in a brief kiss, but that was something already. to a taehong who thought things would only get difficult with the arrival of solar there. as if. as if it really had some kind of problem that he and minjoon weren’t able to work out of it together. “she’s the cutest thing in the world when she’s not trying to eat everything ahead, i swear,” he pulled away, just to get the puppy that was forced to give up her new toy behind. “listen, solar… this is your new dad. minjoon. greet him properly before you eat his shoes,” he led the dog up close to minjoon’s face, so she could lick him and laughed out loud at the sight of it.
a smile ended up appearing on minjoon’s face when he heard taehong’s words; even though they were a little hard to believe, he appreciated his boyfriend’s love for him and also appreciated the kiss he returned afterwards, his eyes taking a bit longer to open again once it was over. however, when he did, he let his hand on taehong’s neck slip to his shoulder that was opposite him, so that he was had his arm around him, raising his eyebrows as he watched the dog be picked up by taehong and brought up close to minjoon’s face. before he even knew it, he was feeling something wet on his nose and a screech left his mouth, his free hand coming up to wipe at it with a dramatically exaggerated expression of disgust on his face. “yikes, solar! that way we can’t have a nice relationship for the sake of your dad’s happiness!” he whined, touching the dog on the nose then, a small smile appearing on his lips when she tried to reach his finger again.

taehongie :
the moment minjoon began to ramble, he looked up at him and let the attention focus on the other for the first time then. he looked tired (which wasn’t nothing new anyway), and taehong just felt even more guilty for having brought something home that he would end up worrying even more and getting weary even more when clearly it wasn’t something he wanted. swallowed hard, staring back at the dog on the couch that had begun to play with the ball of socks thrown by minjoon. “i’m sorry,” he began in a murmur. “if you don’t want her, we just… i can give it back, i guess,” shrugged off in a totally non-existent act. he was sad just thinking about it. “i just… i freaked out, you know? this friend of mine said she was going to send her to some of these kennels and she’s so small and so young. i thought she needed a home after she got used to it. she doesn’t deserve to have a harshly life,” he stroked the puppy’s head between her ears, which still seemed interested in biting the ball of socks with all the vigor it had. “but if you don’t want her, i can’t force you. it’s your home too.”
he was so busy watching the dog fumble with the sock ball he had made her that he only realized what taehong was saying when he was talking about returning the dog to where it came from, and minjoon quickly turned to look at him, a frown deepening on his forehead as he saw how progressively sadder taehong seemed to get about even the thought of leaving solar. minjoon stayed still for a moment, not really knowing what to say or what to do, but he ended up gulping once taehong started petting the dog, and minjoon couldn’t just stay there anymore, so he shook his head, walking over to where taehong was. “no, no, i don’t... i don’t know where you took that from”, he said, promptly plopping down next to him on the floor and lifting one of his hands so he could hold the nape of his boyfriend’s neck, hoping he’d look at him. “i’m sorry if i made it seem like i don’t want her here, and... i’ll admit that everything will be a bit tougher for the both of us from now on and i was kind of against it at first, but now... i don’t really mind it. if it makes you happy, i’ll do it. who knows, maybe that little ball of fluff can even warm her way into my heart”, he said, letting out a small chuckle at his own words. like she hadn’t already done just that. "but don’t worry, i’m not against keeping her. we just have a bigger responsibility now.”

taehongie :
he could hear his boyfriend’s voice, and he really didn’t want to think about it. he didn’t want to be blamed for something else going wrong there, at that moment he decided that he would do whatever it takes to master that puppy, because surely sending her back was simply not an option in taehong’s mind. when he managed to tear the shoe off, and she reached for it, held her on the couch. “stop it! it’s not your food!” he said in an angry korean, then she stopped and stared at him for a while, before facing minjoon and sitting on the couch, tongue out, panting and even after everything she had put him through, taehong still managed to smile to the puppy warmly. “it’s my fault, i didn’t go anywhere to buy anything for her to play with, so she just attacked everything she saw. we’re going to have to start being more careful, though,” he says without even looking into direction of minjoon, very worried about the disappointed look that the older male should have in his face for having accepted to go with all that. “we’re going to leave room two locked from now on, nothing scattered over the house anymore… at least that’ll give us more organization, i guess. ah— i don’t know but i feel she understands korean better? that should be because it’s my mother language. ours.”
before he even knew what was really happening, his mind still going very slow, taehong was talking harshly to the dog in korean, and minjoon raised his eyebrows as he saw her become quieter and he remembered one time he had read something about dogs sensing emotions and also voice tones. huh. shaking his head once taehong started talking, he sighed a little, not really sad about his shoe, as he was only lacking a lot of energy to deal with all of that. “no, it’s fine. it’ll be nice to be more organized, i guess”, he said, frowning a little, and then when he heard taehong, minjoon pressed his lips together, wandering around the living room and collecting all the socks he saw. “she doesn’t understand korean, taehong. dogs can’t understand any languages, they just get used to what the words we say sound like. if we say “stop” every time we don’t want her to do something, she’ll eventually associate that with the fact that she has to stop doing what she was doing. but if we say “hajima” then that’s what she’ll associate stopping to”, he kept talking all the while that he was picking the most damaged socks and putting them all together inside each other until it formed some sort of sock ball, looking up at taehong afterwards and realizing he had been rambling. biting his lip, he threw the sock ball at the dog on the couch, who immediately bit on it and started playing with it. “don’t ask me how i know that.”
