In death, love is free to live and carry on, albeit through grief and memory. Without death, love is forced to be imprisoned, smothered, or exiled. It may undergo a mysterious and merciful alchemy to become something else in time, but the formula of this process is unknown to me.

If Only He Could Stay
You used to bring me handpicked flowers
and sunshine from your face,
but that little boy is gone now,
left near without a trace.
Yet, here he is before me,
and standing in his place
is the man who took my boy from me
And keeps him far away.
Can’t he come back home now?
Please, can’t he come to stay?
I’d give anything for his flowers
And just one sunshine day
Can’t you come back home now?
Oh, how long must I wait?
I’d give my life to hold him
God, if only he could stay!
