Gagan Mahal

Surrounded by fortified walls and a wide moat, the citadel once contained the Durbar Hall, palaces and pleasure gardens of the Adil Shahi Rulers. Unfortunately, many of the buildings are in ruins though some beautiful fragments remain. The best is Gagan Mahal built about 1561 A.D., the building serving the two-fold purpose of a royal residence and Durbar Hall. The main architectural feature of this palace is its great central arch which has a span of 60feet 9 inches. Here was enacted some of the capture of the momentous incidents of history. It was here that, Aurangzeb, after the capture of the city, commanded the unfortunate king, Sikandar Adil Shah to appear before him in silver chains. The building though roofless is a popular spot as it is set in large well landscaped public garden.

Asar Mahal

The Asar Mahal was built by Mohammed Adil Shah in about 1646, which was used to serve as a Hall of Justice. The building was also used to house hairs from the Prophet’s beard. The rooms on the upper storey are decorated with frescoes and the front is graced with a square tank. Here women are not allowed inside. Every year there is urs (festival) held at this place. In front of the hall, one can see three tanks the bigger tank, which is at the centre is about 15 feet (4.6 m) deep however the other two are comparatively smaller in size as well as depth. Behind Asar Mahal one can still see the remain of the citadel. Just a kilometer away behind Asar Mahal, one can still find the old mosque which is on top of the citadel wall. There is a big entrance with arc below this mosque. Many stones have inscriptions. The site is under maintenance of Archeological Survey of India.

Jama Masjid of Bijapur is a mosque in the Indian state of Karnataka. It was built by Ali Adil Shah I (1558-1580) in the year 1578[1] after the victory over Vijaya Nagara at the Battle of Rakkasagi – Tangadagi in Talikoti in 1565.

Also known as both Jamiya Masjid and Jumma Masjid, the mosque is one of the largest mosques in South India[citation needed]. It was built by Ali Adil Shah I (1558-1580) in the year 1578 after the victory over Vijaya Nagara at the Battle of Rakkasagi – Tangadagi in Talikoti in 1565. Set in a perfect square of 1,16,300 sq. ft. 2250 to 2500 persons can offer prayers at a stretch. The Central Mihrab on the western wall is inscribed with lines from the Koran. This inscription was completed in 1676 by Malik Yakut, under the orders from Sultan Muhammad Adil Shah.

Gol Gumbaz is the mausoleum of king Mohammed Adil Shah, Sultan of Bijapur. Construction of the tomb, located in Vijayapura (formerly Bijapur), Karnataka, India, was started in 1626 and completed in 1656. The name is based on Gola gummata derived from Gol Gombadh meaning "circular dome".It follows the style of Deccan architecture.
