Daemon Targaryen burst into Rhaenyra Arryn's life as quickly as a pistol shot. Could he be a kidnapper? A thief? Or something even more threatening? What trouble had Rhaenyra so naively gotten herself into? Although his name is synonymous with nobility, Daemon is far from a true gentleman. However, Rhaenyra sees in him the ideal solution to her dilemma: a temporary fiancé who can take her family's worries away. Daemon, on the other hand, also has his own intentions: to freely explore Chevington Park, the Arryn estate, while conducting an investigation without Rhaenyra suspecting what is really going on.

So much of the criticism I see of specifically “older” Rhaenyra is just completely not understanding what is happening on the show. Like blatant disregard of not just character development or storytelling (which fair enough, not everyone will interpret things the same way, not everyone really wants to analyze media etc) but just denial of actual plot happening on screen. Denial of a character’s actions.

And I think most of it comes from this place where people decided they weren’t going to like Rhaenyra from the start for whatever reason or they never gave Emma’s Rhaenyra a chance and now just refuse to actually think about her scenes. They just dismiss not only the character but how she is actually being presented on screen because whatever preconceived idea they have (especially when it comes to “bias” of the writers) means more.

I think this happens a lot with female characters in general but I also think this is just the effect of people not wanting to think about what they’re watching.
