The fact his second voice role is gonna be John goddamn Homestuck Egbert
I think about the fact Toby Fox, creator of Undertale/Deltarune and notable video game composer, voiced a character in ONE cartoon, a single one, and it's the We Bare Bears spin-off. Nothing before or since mind you, I'm just sayin'. Bonus point is that he plays a skeleton

Good Stuff: The Bad Guys 2
After only 2 or so years, we got a sequel to The Bad Guys, a Dreamworks outing that I never figured would be as amazing as it was. And it's weird getting exactly what you want, no? Even if I was anticipating this, seeing it now, this soon, feels unreal. In a good way. Anyways, let's get to reviewing this, mild spoilers ahead...
This film is as direct a follow-up to the 1st as you could get. I've seen critics say the titular gang don't have major development, and I feel that misses the point. Testing the resolve they got from the 1st film is what matters here, especially when the new bad girls exist as the monkey wrench to their attempts at change. Beyond that, it's just great seeing this cast again, the best coin flip between being effortless professionals and hardcore fumblers in an equally well animated adventure. I can agree it's more of the same, but then again why forcibly subvert what worked the first time? Considering though what doesn't work... Professor Marmalade is back. He sure is an existing character. Man, I love Richard Ayaode, but I cannot tell if it was poor casting or his genuine zero intimidation that made this guinea pig yet again the weak link of a Bad Guys film. He's emblematic of my issue with this film in that he exists with a purpose, but that purpose goes nowhere. Yeah he matters given the 1st movie, but he does next to nothing interesting compared to the new trio of villains that are carrying the main plot. Speaking of which...
This is gonna awaken so many all ages
Kitty, Pigtail, and DOOM indeed make for the best addition to this world, honestly kind of better than the books where they're just around as Diane's crew. I like that they don't go for the obvious girlboss type commentary, instead playing to the logical extreme of the Wolf gang's place in society. Kitty Kat you can tell is who Wolf could've been, less playful swagger and more unchecked resentment. Then again, everyone plays off each other well, never coming off as the new gang stopping on toes, and feels like they're having a great time in the action.

"Okay, so now the tier list looks like this"
All this said though, I get where people are coming from in regards to the pacing. The art book definitely shows there was gonna be more going on, especially with Diane, but they underdelivered here with a 3rd act that felt breakneck. The 1st film had this issue, but with better flesh that felt more satisfying; the moments were stronger there. Diane, I love her, but there's that one moment (IYKYK) that has its emotional weight gutted because no time we gotta hop on the rocket, we gotta fly to space, Morty! I enjoyed the climax in space, but it does not hit the same high as the 1st movie. It's not that they stumbled at the finish line, but a few more minutes to let some scenes breath would have nobody complaining.
More Diane time is never a bad thing
For me, the major issues doesn't diminish the fact that it's a sequel to The Bad Guys and it's just as enjoyable. I didn't think we'd get two American movies that spiritually captures Lupin the 3rd in its energy, swagger, animation especially, and character. If Marmalade represents my issue with the film, Commissioner Misty Luggins represents everything great. Alex Borstein's phenomenal job aside, she's just the best in being Wolf's biggest opp turned strongest supporter; she was to this film what Diane was for the 1st. This is a sequel that didn't need to bend over backwards to hook me. My heart considers this a 9/10 like the first, but the mind wants to be fair. Nonetheless, I'm just glad Dreamworks is still cooking with adaptations like these and I hope we get a trilogy to round this series out.
8 out of 10. The Baddies run it back just as strong
