“Does the holding one in your hand thing really work? Like. Is that a thing people actually do? Because it’s terrifying. Thinking of holding something like that for however long it has to happen for.”
“Dead ones are okay. It’s just the living ones that scare me.”
“Is it? I thought the point was you were too scared to kill it. Killing them is just about them being bugs and they don’t feel anything so if it’s the easiest way to get rid of them, why not? And they are also very useful as potions ingredients.”

“I’m always up for a challenge. As long as that spell will definitely keep you from getting hit. I don’t want to hurt you between games, you know? Especially considering I need accuracy work, not power work.”
“I’ve got a better idea. I’ll put the Quaffles back and you try to hit me with that Bludger. The last major fumbles I’ve made were because of being unaware of Bludgers. This might be the perfect practice for both of us. I’ll put a spell on my broom that stops Bludgers right before they hit to make sure I don’t actually get hurt. Up for the challenge?”

“I do eat meat, yeah, but that’s different than killing a spider, isn’t it? I mean. Meat is for sustenance, killing a spider is just a fear thing. I... haven’t tried that, every time I get close to one, it freaks me out. Can’t make myself do it.”
“There are people who say that about all animals. I don’t know about you, but I still eat meat. And called irrational for a reason. Have you ever tried that thing where you hold one for a few minutes until it’s not scary any more?”

Will nodded slightly, tilted his head upward briefly before speaking again. “Want a hand?” he offered. “I’m not as good as you are with a Quaffle, but I’m not awful at it. I can run pass drills and whatnot. I’ll just have to pull the Bludger back.”
“I was…” She paused for a moment, looking at the darkening sky. “Practicing. Like always. I don’t really stop.”

“It’s a bit of a switch to save someone on the ground instead of someone in the air too. Fair trade.”
“Hmm, Japanese techniques. She must be working on new plays. I wonder what she’s thinking now.”
“I’m glad about that too, to be honest. Makes a change for a player to be saving me from injury, rather than the other way around.”
“Oh, yeah, I was just dropping off an article about one of the Japanese team’s techniques. We got talking about it in a check-up once, I thought she might be interested.”

“A virtue I can certainly appreciate. I like the pride.”
“You’ll get someone decent, I’m sure. Most of the bidders seem to be decent, at least.”
“Self-awareness is a virtue that I am lucky to possess, what can I say?”
“Mm, some of the guys can be very creepy. Yeah, I just hope I get someone good this year.”

“It’s a brilliant idea, but fine.”
“What about getting him a gift certificate for that music shop he likes so much. Easy, he can pick the gift himself and you don’t even have to talk to him about it.”
“Will. That’s a terrible idea. Try again.”

“No law, sure, but spiders are supposed to be respected or whatever. Professor Hagrid used to say that all the time.” He shrugged. “They’re still creepy. Irrational fears are a thing.”
“Who says that you’re not supposed to kill spiders? There’s no law against it, I promise you. Anyway, my actual point was that they can’t hurt you. Especially the ones like that. They’re not even venomous.”

“Bad day. Figured I’d get in a little more practice before I go home so I don’t snap at Cris on accident.” Bad day, of course, referring to yet another speculative article about his history that had hit a little too close to accurate to not leave a bad taste in his mouth. “What’re you doing here so late anyway?”
“Will? What are you doing here? I thought everyone would be home by now…” She said absentmindedly, fiddling with the end of her broom.

“S’alright. I’m just glad I saw you before the Bludger caught you. It was a power practice hit, not an accuracy one this time.”
“Em didn’t know I was out here -- today’s our off day, I’m just in for a little extra practice. You alright? Or, I guess I should ask if she’s alright?”
“Shit, sorry, I didn’t realise anyone would be here practicing. Em made it sound like everyone would have left, so I thought I’d cut across here on my way out. Sorry, again.”

“Yo, heads up!”
“You gotta pay attention when you walk out on the pitch! You’re lucky I was close enough to knock that one away, or you’d be flat already.”

“At least you know it, I guess.”
“She’s not as creepy as some of the guys can be, I’ll give her that, but the girl’s got a stare that’s just... unnerving. You’ll probably have good luck, though. There are so many lots, the odds of her bidding on yours by accident are super slim, for sure.”
“None taken. Intense is an understatement, really.”
“Merlin, I hope I don’t get landed with her, then. If she can nearly scare you off, I don’t stand a chance.”

“I’m not the one spreading ‘em, mate. That’s all the press, I’ve got nothing to do with it.”
“I don’t have to have anything against you in particular anyway. You’re a Bat, that’s plenty right there.”
“What the fuck do you have against me that you feel the need to spread these vicious rumors?”

“I still think you should just get him a Playboy and be done with it. He’d appreciate it plenty well enough. And cover it up with some fancy outfit so your parents think you gave him something socially acceptable.”
“I’m socially obligated to buy my little brother something for his birthday, but I don’t know what to get him. What do you get someone who already has access to anything they ever wanted?”

“You’re not supposed to kill a spider, though. And when you do kill one, like thirty come back in its place and it’s a vicious cycle. I’m allowed to hit a Bludger at you without it being frowned upon.”
“That doesn’t even make any sense,” she commented, shaking her head as she let the spider go on a nearby wall. “You could crush a spider under your little toe. I can hit Bludgers back.”

“Well I mean. Isn’t that how you would describe it? There one second, gone the next, no idea where the hell it went. So it went poof.”
“Of course I am listening. It then went…poof?”

“I don’t doubt you are, love. No offense meant, of course. You’re as intense as Cris can be about all this style nonsense, I’m sure.”
“I wish I’d scared her off, but no such luck. If anything, I have to say she almost scared me off. And you know that’s saying something.”
“One man’s pain is another man’s pleasure, I suppose. It’s a good job you’ve got him, though, because otherwise I would be the one forcing you to dress up. And I’m a bitch of a stylist, just ask Tasia.”
“Oh, the Little League thing sounds adorable. She’s definitely something, though. Do you think she’s bidding again this year, or did you manage to scare her off?”
