The Beast Below is one of my all-time favorite Doctor Who episodes—not just because of the plot or the visuals, but the entire story is set in motion by something so small, so human: the Doctor sees a child crying.

That’s it. No grand threat, no mysterious signal, no imminent apocalypse—just a child in distress. And he can’t walk past it. He physically can’t not investigate, because that’s who he is. Even when the universe is vast and loud and full of monsters, he stops for a crying child.

Also not even five minutes before that, he told Amy with a completely straight face, “I never interfere in the affairs of other peoples or planets.” And I find the sheer absurdity of that line hilarious.
