Since Bluesky is tightening their TOS and has a feedback form about it open until August 28th, I also sent my feedback. My friend liked my message so much that she wanted me to post it for others to take points from. Due to my own content being non-con centered I'm adressing that specifically.

"First of all I understand where you're coming from, actual, graphic real-life rape videos, videos of someone fucking their dead cat, actual underage human beings in sexual situations or disgruntled exes posting someone's nudes without their permission shouldn't be hosted on Bluesky, that is actual illegal material. I just don't agree banning also drawn or otherwise fictional depictions of rape as well. Here I'll clarify I mean content that is made to be seen as fictional, I don't mean Deepfakes or AI porn that is made to look like it's real and depicts a real person, therefore causing harm to that real person. I'm also not defending CSAM and not talking about actual minors in any of my later points.

On that note, outright banning ALL depiction of rape shows a fundamental lack of understanding what makes it a crime: a living, breathing human victim, who has endured physical and mental harm that will haunt them for the rest of their life. The way you're wording these rules smacks strongly of "protect the kids!", which while a noble thought, is most often used to drive puritanical views, oppress minorities and eventually chip away at rights to depict or talk about other things. Censorship is a slippery slope. Almost all artists I know who depict nonconsensual sex in their work are women, and more often than not, queer. Many of these artists are victim to sexual abuse themselves and this is a way to take back agency. And of course, some of us are just perverts and that's not wrong either. This is our sexual expression and not "instructions" on how to commit crimes.

Some may see it distasteful or immoral, for others it's a traumatic reminder, but that is why it's so important for us to be able to tag our work correctly, so it can be avoided by those who don't want to see it. Because banning it doesn't stop people from posting it, they'll go underground and stop labelling and tagging it for what it is and that is way more harmful. Depictions of drawn nonconsensual sex have to stay allowed so people who don't want to see it can avoid it safely! Correct tagging also enforces the idea that it's fictional and fantasy and all participants understand it for what it is. There is no "normalizing" happening, it cannot be mistaken as a guideline on how to approach and treat real people.

We see rape all the time on big screens, untagged and unwarned, it's not just on seedy porn websites. Series, movies, books (most often!) made by men. It feels like men and those who have more money than us have free range on showing everything, while we are being censored and silenced and driven off to dark corners of the internet. Pick-up artists and people like Andrew Tate cause a lot more real-world harm than we do, prople like him are the ones giving instructions on how to hurt and take advantage of others.

I'm also worried that banning this topic eventually stops people from talking about important real world issues and when they or others have been wronged and hurt for real.

I want you to reconsider adjusting your TOS to allow fictional depictions of nonconsensual sexual content and just give us tools to filter it out. I really like your implementation of content labels and I've used them religiously, since I also depict sexual assault and other unsavory themes in my art. I would be heartbroken if I had to leave your platform over this."

While we’re talking about censorship, I need everyone to stop playing this little amnesia game where we pretend not to remember what internet and fandom has looked like for the past 20 years. Weird and taboo porn has always existed, it used to be a LOT easier to access, and you won’t die if you look at it.
