My Cheltenham 2019 day 2
So day 2 starts abit later I think we are all up about 7.30 ready for breakfast,we head over and take our seat theres 6 of us at the table no one orders the full English as it's minging I go for eggs Benedict and endless toast and cereal finish up about 9 and head back to the room to get ready for day 2
We leave about 10.30 for chelts head to our usual parking space but all the spaces are taken so have to drive around for another car park we find one in Rodney road that will do,head to Primark for some gloves and would you Adam and Eve it they don't have any, Primark no gloves WTAF anyway we find some and head to the books. I collect the winnings from the night before, last year me and 1 of the lads had a hit on the bumper carefully selected was the name and we where denied in the last 100yards by relegate if memory serves me right we where on for about £1300 it was a gutter. So I had a stupid moment and we tried to get the winner again, this bumper this didn't look great envoi Allen was unbeaten but very workmanlike to the eye no wow factor about him so we, well I plumped for miticulous a fast finishing 2nd to envoi last time of a slow pace and also had the champion flat jockey donnacha O'Brian on top it looked a decent bet at 8/1 so we have a score each on it and leave it at that. I also had another £50 on it on track and I think my mate had another £40 on track so £130 between the two of us at 7/1 and 8/1
We take the walk to the track and get there about 1.10pm ready for the 1st I have £20 on champ and £10 on city island, I have had a theory about champ that he travels to sweetly to really stay a proper 2m4f and so I was right for once he cruised round but in fairness so did city island and arguably travelled better coming round the bend they jump the last together and city island stays on better than champ to win by 2 lengths £100 collected nice start. 2 really good horses for the future
2nd race I'm hesitant on what horse to do santini or topofthegame I've even said to one of the fellas I know I will do the the wrong one £30 on santini I go for. At no point did I ever fancy delta work I just couldn't have him. Jumping the last delta work, santini, topofthegame jump the last together and topofthegame just gets the better of santini by 3/4 lengths. I would take all 3 out of this race but especially delta work he travelled so well and I reckon if Davy could ride the race again he would of took a pull 3 out instead of taking up the running he's my gold cup horse for next year depending on what happens with altior
3rd race I'm on killutugh Vic £5 and dancing on my own £20 what a load of shite, killutugh trails in last and dancing on my own pulls up,in fairness dancing on my own I wouldn't give up on, travelled ok till smacking 3 out. Normal Cheltenham service has been resumed. We go for grub I get curry on chips and 1 of the lads battered sausage and chips £14.50 later and I need the next winner lol
4th race I have a silly £10 on min if altior wasn't on song or fell then surely min wins, does he fuck, altior wins but there's no wow factor arguably looked beaten landing over the last but he stays better than any 2miler I've seen and was going away at the finish again. 5/1 for the king George get on now
5th Is the cross country I hate this race, you can't see bugger all at the track and bar 1 horse they are all plodders, that one horse is tiger roll. I have a silly £5er on BallyCasey he's the sort of horse that might pop up in one of these at a silly price one day, not this day tho ,tiger roll hoses by 22l on the snaff he's getting better with age, surely the national beckons which to me is between tiger roll, annibale fly and mall dini as it stands
6th race I have £20 on Koko beach @14@s and £10 on got trumped @18s Koko takes it 2 out but band of outlaws is still hard held behind it and was always going to sprint past him up the hill. I quite like band of outlaws for next year's champion hurdle its the sort of race he might get a really good pace to aim at he reminds me of sublimity from about 12 years ago
7th and last race and it's time for meticulous but envoi is getting the granny smashed out of it 9/2 into 2/1 I've made a cock up hear. Meticulous jumps out handy which I'm surprised I thought he would be held up they don't go a great pace and envoi is moved closer to the pace about 5 out as it's looking like a 5f sprint and he's obviously a stayer in the making meticulous comes of the bridle and that's another £90 down the council gritter, envoi outstays them all despite being challenged by blue sari to win by a length or so he obviously very decent and streetwise and probably saves abit for himself. Be interesting which route they take next season I'd like to see him make the running in the supreme and kick on from the 2nd last he would take alot of catching. A few of the lads had envoi, good well pleased the newbs ended on a winner on there first year
Days over, walk back to the car dropping another 10r in Ladbrokes on the way, stop at he services halfway and home

My Cheltenham 2019
We travel down on Monday myself and one of my besties, meeting up with a few others at another new hotel in cricklade,we arrive about 3.30 pm book in Chuck our bags in the rooms and head straight to the bar, 2 pints later and half of us head straight into the high street one of the lads has discovered a micro brewery BOOM we are all over that,1/3 pint and another pint and we are on the move to get some food, a couple of the lads have what seems like a romantic meal for two while the rest of us peg it to the kebab House for a doner kebab, boom the beer sponge has been eaten back to the pub for god knows how many more, we move back to the micro brewery, I forget how many more we had in there,we are all very merry,we manage to nab a large table in the corner and the lads chat starts to commence while we are waiting on the result from kempton and we are joined by a blogger called matt, let the racing chat commence, I can go all day with racing chat especially when I'm abit tipsy it's like verbal diarrhea it just doesn't stop.
1st day of the races up at just gone 5am the wind is so noisy and it's 3 hours till breakfast my mouth is dryer than Gandhi's flip flop down to the car for some water and I drift over to the main reception I'm not sure why but I did and one of the other lads is already up, he's buzzing for the racing like me, I potter around for a little while and finally my roommates wake up or I wake them up lol either way there up. Now I'm a very shy person and struggle with conversation generally but if I'm comfortable around people I can talk the hind legs of a donkey and I do love football and horse racing chat.
8pm and finally breakfast WOW I've never been so disappointed with a full English in all my life no beans who the f**k serves a full English with no beans. Scandalous
We are off to Cheltenham about 10.15 and it's a miserable day wind and rain all morning but we arrive about 11.30 and we hit the first the bookies £20 on benie des deux @6/4 and a £10r in the machines now I swear these know my fingerprints cause I could stand in a bookies all day and hear nothing but people roll in features I go on them and would you believe it nothing not even a winning spin it's like they lock down the program it knows it's me and goes I'm not giving that tosser f all grrrrrrrrr but I still do it I'm a poor gambler after all
Off to the races we go I think we arrive about 1pm and the place is rammed as always and we head straight down to the "betting jungle" as we call it I steam in £10 on vision d'honure. The race is off vision travels ok but never looked like the winner. Ruby walsh on klassical dream bolts in would you believe it. I think in the 10 years I've been attending the festival I've never got ruby right probably the only person in Britain and Ireland that hasn't. Ruby Walsh over the jumps Jaime Spencer on the flat
2nd race and I'm already chasing,£40 on hardline ridden by Davy russell one of my favs the horse never gets into the race and Duc des geniveire hoses up great ride by Paul Townend what a fantastic jockey, one of the lads had him well done he read the race well a stayer on the pace and he just kept going
3rd race £10 I'm on beware the bear ridden by Jeremiah McGrath and boom we have a winner but boy that was the longest run in for a long time. I was on maljimar all those years ago when McCoy nabbed it on the line on witchita lineman and that run in with beware the bear seemed so familiar but he held on returns £120 and the pressure is off I can enjoy the rest of the day knowing that I've limited the loses
4th race the champion hurdle Apples jade Vs laurina Vs beuver d'ar surely it's a 3 horse race I steam in £50 on beuver he's proven the reigning champion coming back to defend his crown, FALLS o my days how's your luck hey, Apples jade runs no race laurina travels ok to 2 out then folds tamely, Espor d'allan hoses in 16/1 very impressive and great for Mark Walsh to get a monster winner not to worry I will be picking that £50 straight up from hills when benie wins the next
5th race the mares I think everybody at the track is on benie she travelled so well and kicks on at the bend 3 clear coming to the last and would you believe it goes arse over tit the ruby curse strikes again roksana picks up the pieces and wins. A few unpleasant comments about ruby later and we move on. I was there when Annie power fell at the last ruining so many accas on the day and it was eerie how silent the place went 65,000 people just went silent in an instant the fall was so similar to that
6th race I have a couple of £5rs on red Indian and cubomania the less said the better about them two. A plus tard sluices up on the snaff very impressive and a first chelts winner for Racheal Blackmore who is a seriously good rider
Last race of the day the national hunt chase my rule with the amatuer jocks is follow Codd or O'Connor I have a £5er on le breuil ridden by Jaime Codd what a jockey he is I've never cheered a £5 winner on so much the voice has gone but who cares I pick up £75 notes at the end of the day and that will do I survived and we take the walk back to the bookies for the football accas as usual I think we all got one teamed Wycombe let me down for £107 while I believe that Colchester (Hometown) let the others down I've also had a 5er on badenscotch in the last at wolves who wins the last at wolves @6s I've got £5 on @7s that will do
Me and my mate take the drive back to the hotel while the others stay in town for a Chinese we are shattered and just want to kip ready for the Wednesday
