In general I put a lot of random thought into how Merfolk work. While, as aforementioned post states, hands are finlike fingers, feet are not like this and instead are fused. They have a bony foot for walking and standing but, like flippers we use for swimming, the foot ends and melds into a flipper, likely a cartilagenous fin (I've been imagining something akin to like skates and rays).

The King of the Sea is only shown in Eugene's shadow puppet show and appears to have a little beard. I propose it is actually Barbels, like a catfish would have. I imagine Merfolk do not have hair, and instead Anglers, Barbels, or Fins give the illusion of hair! They're all quite varied in appearance, much like regular fish.

A fun little detail I like is the finlike nature of Eugene's hands, despite the fact he does have fingers. You can see on the human examples below a clear distinction between fingers when together, while Eugene's is uniform and rounded. I just think it's neat!

Notes on how I chose Franklin's colors! I can't tell you where the orange came from but the blue shirt was just to match Eugene, since his vest isn't much different from his body color. I put blue on Franklin's feet to also match Eugene, since his eyebrows and nose are the same as his vest. I thought it'd be silly if some part of Franklin also matched his shirt.

Wip! Eye strain is keeping me from the second fin but the test fin ended up being good enough to use!! Happy because I had to modify an existing pattern a little and that required some math. Rn theres just pins holding him together, I need to unstuff the head after I finish and sew on the fins because I need to fix his nose, put the safety backs on the eyes, actually sew the color part of his eyes, eyebrows, and angler on. But I'm so happy with how he's coming out. You can sort of see the skein of fuzzy yarn in the back, I'm saving that to make a bigger version someday when I'm better.
