Thank you for the kindest words in the world.

It’s been a while since I’ve posted here. A VERY long while, actually.

Love In Hate Nation is still just as special to me now as it was when I saw it at 17 during a High School showing at Two River Theater. The reason being, I showed this show to someone very close to me and this show helped not only her accept herself and her LGBTQA+ identity, but it was very personal to us both in the way we felt for one another. We were in love with each other for the longest time but didn’t want to threaten anything in our friendship or lives to tell one another, and she found herself listening to the song Oh Well over and over again in this time.

Here we are now, finally together as girlfriends, and we rewatched the one existing video of this show online together… and wow. Rewatching it with her once again, but also just seeing how close the show is to the climate of LGBTAQ+ rights today and the way it handles the topics of our rights, our safety, it’s insane.

I want to live to see the day this show finally gets produced. The day it does I don’t care how far I have to travel, I will be seeing it and taking my girlfriend with me.

At 17 I shyly approached Joe Iconis after the show with a group of my friends and I struggled to tell him just how much it mattered to see myself represented on stage. Now at 20, I would give nothing more than to see it and say it more proudly—say with confidence that it’s fantastic to see myself represented and it means the absolute world to me.

If you’re a theater kid and read all this and HAVEN’T seen or listened to Love In Hate Nation, PLEASE do!!! It’s so impactful and has a wonderful and talented cast—along with fantastic LGBTQA+ casting, such as trans actress Emerson Mae Smith portraying the character Kitty Minx, a trans woman.
