15 YEARS WITHOUT A FATHER
Dear Reader,
This blog post is a very personal and emotional one for me. It has taken me years to finally get the courage up to share this vulnerable part of me and my past. I hope it helps someone else heal the way it has helped me heal.
To family and friends of my father,
I apologize if any of this hurts, shocks, or upsets you. It’s not my intention, I just needed to share my truth.
And…

WHERE HAVE I BEEN?
WHERE HAVE I BEEN?
Hello Kiddies.
I’m back.
You might not have even noticed I was gone, but I’m writing this to explain my absence and complete failure that was my Asian/Pacific American Heritage Month plan.
So, as I’ve mentioned in previous blog posts and videos, I suffer from clinical depression and anxiety (mostly Social Anxiety Disorder). I’ve been suffering with these, often-times, debilitating diseases for…

KATHERINE SUI FUN CHEUNG
Hello Kiddies!
Today, I’m spotlighting Katherine Sui Fun Cheung, one of the first Chinese pilots in the United States. I found out about her through an article I read this morning and, since it’s pretty informative and better than I could write, I’ve decided to just share the link for the article.

Hello Kiddies!
Today, I’ve decided to share this video I saw on Facebook instead of writing about a specific AAPI person because I believe the message is very relevant to someone like me.
I hope you enjoy the video and get something out of watching it.
XOXO,
Kat

KRISTI YAMAGUCHI
Hello Kiddies!
For today’s APAHM post, I’ve chosen a childhood hero of mine, the incomparable Kristi Yamaguchi. I remember watching her in the 1992 Olympics and I wanted so badly to become a figure skater like her. Unfortunately that never happened for me, but she continued to be an inspiration for me.
Kristine Tsuya Yamaguchi was born on July 12, 1971 in Hayward, California. She was born with…

JIM LEE
Hello Kiddies!
Since today is Free Comic-Book Day, I decided to dedicate today’s APAHM post to award-winning comic-book artist, writer, editor, and publisher Jim Lee.
Jim Lee was born in South Korea but his family moved to Missouri when he was still a child. After moving to St. Louis, Lee felt like an outsider (especially having to learn a new language) and his parents would occasionally buy him…

MING-NA WEN
Hello Kiddies!
I’ve chosen another one of my personal idols for today’s post. As I stated in the essay I published yesterday, growing up, I didn’t see many people who looked like me on TV or in movies and, like many little girls, I just wanted a Disney princess I could see myself in.
Enter Mulan. Now, I know Mulan isn’t technically a princess since she wasn’t born into nobility and she didn’t…

JOANNA GAINES
Hello Kiddies!
Today’s APAHM entry is actually an essay I wrote for my Composition & Language course in the fall about someone in our chosen field of study who we admire. I was studying Interior Design at the time and the person I chose to write about was (hapa) Joanna Gaines of HGTV’s Fixer Upper.
I have yet to read the book (The Magnolia Story) she and her husband wrote but I do have the…

CHIYO KASHIWAGI MURAKAMI
Chiyo Kashiwagi Murakami
Who is Chiyo Kashiwagi Murakami? Well, for starters, she was my grandmother. But, that’s not the (only) reason I’ve chosen to feature her this month.
Chiyo Kashiwagi was born on July 29, 1917 in Woodland, California to Japanese immigrants. When the United States entered WWII, she and her family were among the 120,000 innocent Japanese Americans forced into internment…

HAPPY ASIAN/PACIFIC AMERICAN HERITAGE MONTH!
Hello Kiddies!
Did you know May is Asian/Pacific American Heritage Month? It’s okay if you didn’t; a lot of people are unaware of it. So, that’s why I’m writing this post.
Asian/Pacific American Heritage Month initially started as just a week in May 1979 to commemorate the first Japanese immigrants on May 7, 1843 and the completion of the transcontinental railroad on May 10, 1869 as many of the…

MY THOUGHTS ON THE ELECTION AND DONALD TRUMP'S WIN
MY THOUGHTS ON THE ELECTION AND DONALD TRUMP’S WIN
It’s taken me a couple of days to finally write this. Everything has been in chaos since Tuesday and I had to take some time to process my thoughts and emotions. I was literally shaking (from fear? Anger? Sadness? Anxiety? A combination of those? Who knows…) Tuesday night and I find myself shaking again as I write this. I’ve also experience a resurgence of my Depression symptoms which I’m trying…

Shy People Problems.
1. Being told to speak up.
2. Not being able to make friends easily.
3. Group projects.
4. Having no problem texting someone, but talking to them in person is something else.
5. Having to present something in front of people.
6. Leaving voicemails.
7. People being surprised when you speak.
8. Awkward silences.
9. Awkward eye contact.
10. When you’re with someone and they’re talking to someone you don’t know.
11. Trying to be outgoing, but having no idea how.
12. Feeling like you’re invisible to the entire human race.
13. People thinking that you’re rude.
14. Having to repeat yourself often when you do speak.
