-thinking he’s put you in so much danger all because he selfishly wants you around

-he’ll try to make sure you don’t go on patrol with him and his brothers anymore

-and definitely not allow you on missions anymore

-he doesn’t want to put you in any more unnecessary danger

-he'll try not to think about you

-bc the minute he does, that familiar pressure will rise behind his eyes and force the tears he’s promised himself no one would see

-but before that, when you first confessed why you wouldn’t date him, you got into a huge argument

-like, it shook the entire sewer system huge

-Raph absolutely thinks your lying to him

-He thinks your lying to not hurt his feelings and he’s furious that you'd do that to him

-He sees it as a kind of betrayal

-like you don't trust him enough to share you're real feelings

-or, even worse...you're afraid of him

-Even though this argument was born out of his own insecurities, he refuses to talk to you

-And has trouble admitting, especially to himself, that he was wrong

-he needs a new punching bag now.

"You know what I find funny about lies?", you proclaimed as you sat down at a table near the big windows in Ten Forward.

Data sat across from you with a tilt of his head, his hands intertwining on top of the table.

“Is that a rhetorical question?”

You nod as you lick your lips and lean forward.

“When someone lies, they reveal more about themselves than if they were telling the truth. Well, once you've found out what it is they're lying about of course."

Data's eyebrows scrunch in confusion and he leans forward on the table as well. He takes a moment to gather his thoughts before speaking.

"It was to my knowledge that lying, in this context, is to hide or distort the truth. How can it be that lying reveals more of the truth than the actual truth itself?"

You grinned despite his bewildered expression.

"Let me give you an example. Lets pretend I'm lying, ok?"

He gave you a nod as he watched you with intrigue.

“I don’t like chocolate.”, you said matter of factly as if you were telling him the weather.

His eyebrows wrinkled ever so slightly.

“Why would you lie about that?”

The grin on your face could out the Cheshire Cat to shame and you suddenly slammed the surface of the table.

“Exactly! Once you catch someone in a lie, questions start to pop up. Questions like, what are they trying to cover up? Why are they covering it up? What are they scared or ashamed of?“

Your hands moved animatedly as you talked, unable to contain yourself when you saw how Dats was catching on. Data took in every detail.

“And most importantly, why are they trying to conceal who they really are?”

Quickly, you scanned your surroundings until you found what you were looking for. You motioned to Data to look at a couple sitting at a few tables away from them.

"Tell me, what do you notice about that couple sitting over there?"

A man and a woman were sharing a a smoothie of some kind, talking politely to one another. There was even a rose on the middle of their table. The ideal date.

Data stared at them for a minute before turning back to you. "They are sharing a smoothie while conversing. Is that not typical couple behaivor?"

You nod in response as a small giggle slips out.

“Too typical. Too cliché. Now theres nothing wrong with cliché if that’s what you like but…”

You got closer to Data to discreetly point out that the man’s gaze flickered behind the woman’s shoulder too much. You watched Data’s eyes widen a fraction as he realized he was eyeing another woman behind him.

“…I suspect the date is cliché because he couldn’t be bothered to think of anything original.”, you whispered.

Data tilted his head in utter confusion. Especially when he realized the woman on the date was also eyeing another woman behind the man.

“But…what purpose does it serve to be in a relationship with someone you are not attracted to?”

He snapped his head back to you, eyes desperate for answers.

You merely with a tilt of your head, your lips frowning whilst you raised your eyerbrows.

“I have no idea. That’s the fun part about lies and façades, in my opinion. It’s like a puzzle.”

Data’s eyes scanned you up and down, taking in your body language and the way despite your face showing intrigue, your eyes were unreadable.

“…Have you ever lied to me?”

You didn’t move. It bothered him a little that he couldn’t read your eyes.

“Yes.”, you answered simply. He didn’t know whether to believe you.
