Folk Toy Tapestry, Year of the Dog- 2018, 2006, 1994, 1982, 1970, 1958, 1946
I based the coloration and boxy head shape off a Shar pei puppy.
Written on the back:
If you have glasses, your dog can fetch them.
As for glasses cloths, you'll need a dozen!
-Mythee
Lattice - Metal
Circular, oval and arch shapes represent the metal element in Feng Shui. Metal symbolizes clarity, precision, balance, wholeness, determination, and so on. Fun fact, Feng Shui also assigns elements to different organs of the body, and the lungs are metal element. Bark bark!
Seasonal lucky symbolism - Spring
Spring, or as I call it Make More Birds (hence the pairs of birds) brings the rains, so I thought clouds were appropriate- they also complement the phoenixes well. In Feng Shui, the Phoenix is a symbol of longevity and prosperity. As a messenger of the God of marriage, it is also a lucky marriage symbol.

Folk Toy Tapestry, Year of the Rooster- 2017, 2005, 1993, 1981, 1969, 1957, 1945
Written on the back:
Stand apart, children, and let your mother count-
A giggle-pile grows, and ten chicks become one.
Putting glasses on, she notes the right amount.
She always keeps them off till they've had some fun.
-Mythee
This is the only poem for which I've received confusion at times, so to sum it up, the chicken wishes to count her chicks to see if any are missing, typical big family stuff. However, her chicks are messing with the count by squishing themselves together into one fluff pile, since they know their mother has myopia and will have a hard time when they do that. She could have gotten her glasses right away but did not until after her children had their fun, because she treasures their mirth.
Lattice - Metal
The circular shapes of the lattice around the edges represent the metal element. Efficiency, precision, and beauty are its domains.
Seasonal lucky symbolism - Spring
Ah yes, spring, or as my wife and I call it, Make More Birds. Two swallows perch facing each other on budding peach blossoms, symbolic of, well, you know, Make More Birds, as well as a lucky portent of happiness.

Folk Toy Tapestry, Year of the Monkey- 2016, 2004, 1992, 1980, 1968, 1956, 1944, 1931
Written on the back:
Scratch a monkey's back, and it scratches yours. Clean its glasses, and it cleans yours. Scratch its glasses? You're in for more than a scratch! -Mythee
Lattice - Earth
The square shapes in the lattices around the edges represent the earth element in Feng Shui.
Seasonal lucky symbolism - Winter
One might wonder at plants in the winter for symbolism, however if you look closely, that is no outdoor plant, for it is not of any of the hundreds of species in the Bambusoideae subfamily)... the twists and spirals indicate that it's lucky bamboo (Dracaena sanderiana). That's right. Plot twist. Lucky Bamboo was a type of Dracaena- a tropical broadleaf evergreen shrub- all along!
Lucky bamboo is an item that has been cultivated and used as a gift for thousands of years of Feng Shui practice. It is believed to bring luck and prosperity in all its forms, and used as a chi regulator- balancing the energies of a space. Or in interior design speak, houseplants keep the vibes in check; they help us chi-llax.

Folk Toy Tapestry, Year of the Goat- 2015, 2003, 1991, 1979, 1967, 1955, 1943, 1931
Written on the back:
A goat's sense of balance is plenty strong To climb the sheerest cliffs an bray in song But why's it been there for so long? …It dropped its glasses back at dawn. -Mythee
Lattice - Earth
The square shapes of the lattice around the edges represent the Earth element in Feng Shui. Earth represents nurturing, grounding stability.
Seasonal lucky symbolism - Winter
Nowadays, when Lucky Money is presented to someone- in celebration of a momentous occasion such as a wedding, perhaps, or as a customary New Year gift for children in the family, or any other of myriad opportunities, it usually comes as bills in a red and gold envelope. The luckiness of the contents is conferred by the way it is packaged and the context it was given in, so the amount is unimportant and customarily small (though perhaps the receiver might like you to believe otherwise. :P). In ancient China, before bills were a thing, lucky money would take the shape of garlands of coins made with decorative tasselled rope. To this day, these are used as part of the festivities, although more as decor and accessories than to be stashed in a wallet!

How much money though. Because I'd fund my own research institute but try making it a co-op! Owned by researchers, for the sake of doing research! And yes, this is of personal gain for me so it does count, because I love to do research more than anything but I have health complications and this way the world can't stop me.
what super expensive indulgence would u get for urself if u suddenly came into a bunch of money?? assume all bills/mortgages paid, all friends helped: what treat are u buying just for u?? for me it would be a quilted lambskin chanel bag in iridescent pink

Folk Toy Tapestry, Year of the Horse- 2014, 2002, 1990, 1978, 1966, 1954, 1942
Written on the back:
On a very dry day, Glasses help to win a race. Keep your eyes from drying up from the wind in your face. -Horse tips (Mythee)
Lattice - Fire
The triangular shapes of the lattice around the edges represent the fire element in Feng Shui. I feel like I see these shapes in window and door lattices the least often.
Seasonal lucky symbolism - Winter
Snowflakes and pine are both classic winter sights. As an evergreen, pine trees present lucky symbolism for longevity, endurance and inner strength. As an added bonus, trees in general symbolize vitality and growth.

Folk Toy Tapestry, Year of the Snake- 2025, 2013, 2001, 1989, 1977, 1965, 1953
Written on the back:
When you don't wear your glasses, it jusst looks far away. But without them my own nightss are lifeless, cold and gray. Let this snake have them, and I'll keep the pests at bay!
-Mythee
Lattice - Fire
The triangular shapes of the lattice around the edges represent the fire element in Feng Shui.
Seasonal lucky symbolism - Fall
Gourds, AKA nature's bottles, encompass the fruit of hundreds of species of plants mostly in the Cucurbitaceae family. They've historically (and prehistorically) been hollowed out and dried to make containers, dishware and instruments around the world, with the bottle gourd's domestication dating back to 12,000 BCE in southern Africa, with farmers of the Holocene spreading it to Eurasia thereafter and drifting gourds upon the ocean arriving to the Americas. Many thousands-years-old archaeological samples have been discovered in China as well. The first character of the word for gourd (葫芦), hù, sounds like the word for "protect", so much like the snake itself, it is a lucky symbol offering protection. Folklorically, magical gourds are often featured in stories as tools which can capture evil spirits.

Just today I got to see a chess book that I remember reading as a little kid. While it didn't give me a lifelong passion for chess, it did give me a lifelong passion for fantasy for its artwork.
The book is "Chess for Young Beginners" from 1975, and here's some of the artwork:

Like, this artwork goes hard. I especially appreciate the colour scheme for the black pieces, with its browns, bronzes, reds and oranges.

This artwork is amazing, evocative, exciting and dramatic. I recommend giving it a look if you have a chance - you can probably scrounge up a PDF of this thing with a bit of searching.

Folk Toy Tapestry, Year of the Dragon- 2024, 2012, 2000, 1988, 1976, 1964, 1952
Written on the back:
There is a dragon palace hidden in the clouds That only those with clean glasses can see. -Mythee
Lattice - Wood
The rectangular shapes of the lattice around the edges represent the wood element in Feng Shui. This was the first of my 12 microfiber designs I did, since I started them in the year of the wood dragon, specifically.
Seasonal lucky symbolism - Fall
Fall is the season of harvest, so fruit are often used as associated imagery. The leaves of tangerines symbolize life, and their round fruit symbolizes togetherness. Often, they and other citrus within the group (ex.: clementines, kumquats, mandarins, oranges) are gifted to others in the Chinese New Year to bring health and prosperity- the latter association comes from the fruit's name, which in Cantonese, sounds like the word for "gold".
