magicaedivinae:

Tumblr media
By some stroke of luck, Apath had been able to get an active feel for where they were going mid-step through the veil. It was not directly towards the revelry they decided to go, but rather, the slightest patch of somewhat solid marsh within the swamp proper. Head cocking to the side, listening, getting a feel for where–and what, this place was.
…and they slowly settled on their knees, uncaring about any mud clinging to their skin and hands folding politely in their lap. A gentle thrum of magic resonated from their form, directly down into the earth they were kneeling on. Meant to give the swamp a clear picture of who they were, an accurate reading on their very soul–and eyes closed for a moment.
“…may I proceed withou’ bein’ harmed? I’m here fer th’Festival–Fadi mentioned it. Bu’ he also said ya chose who was allowed ta be here, I wan’ ta ask ya fer permission prop’a. I swear I mean nothin’ here harm, you included. An’ if I should hurt any form’a fauna or flora, or any Zora, I invite ya ta eviscerate me on th’spot.”
It first came as a rustling in the leaves and vines; the bubbling and movement of the water-- it could almost be mistaken for a voice, if random noises of a living swamp could make long sequences of conversation. And then the voice sharpened-- it appeared Fadi was being deadly serious when he called the swamp alive. It spoke after several long minutes-- it had never met someone who understood this clearly.
“You are different. The Deiarch has never brought someone with a soul’s song as stirring as yours back... The Deiarch is correct. I am the consciousness of this swamp...” Its voice echoed sibilantly, echoing through the clearing that Apath  had found. “And the Deiarch is similarly correct; that I am the Arbitrator. You may pass... Do not allow your soul’s song to deceive me, young godling... Though I feel I shouldn’t worry... Tarry not. The celebrations will begin soon, and the revelry even affects me. Follow the violet Bramble Strider... He will wait for you, and lead the way. Tarry not...”
With that, the sounds of the swamp alive faded back to its former ambience, the presence in the clearing leaving almost as quickly as it came.

The hustle and bustle of Deioru nao’Mongi’s capital district, “Fedai,” put a smile on Fadi’s face. Eight days in thirteen months where the full population of the city would be sure to spend as much time as possible out of doors, where thousands of melodies would synchronize and weave, a tapestry of pure thaumaturgy that once upon a time, the Zora were forbidden from.
A wry smirk spread across the Alpha Deiarch’s lips-- how his former elders would quiver and hiss at him now. Against all odds, he’d proven it could be done-- a civilization of both science AND magic, of tradition AND progress-- while yes, his people had retained many architectural traits of the nao’Mongi’s now cousin race, EVERYTHING about the nao’Mongi had adapted to the new liminalities of the swamp. The same style pillars and roofs, only now, hewn of mahogany on the precious few solid earth areas; bridges through the deep, murky water and across the thick, dense canopy a hundred feet up that only opened around the edges of Fedai-- everything about Deioru nao’Mongi was a testament to spiteful adaptation, determined adaptation.
Fadi’Mongi took a deep breath-- the earthen musk of the swamp gas on the air mingling with ocean spray where murk became salt water; mixed with the scents of cooking Skates and Sifter Sharks. Everyone was in a hurry, making sure that things were prepared for Festival-- the sight put a smile on his face, as he stood atop the trebuchets of his palace. The highest location in Fedai; and possibly all of Deioru nao’Mongi-- from his vantage point, he could see through the deep, royal violet night sky, over the canopies clear to the lighthouse on the beach that one day, he’d again ward-- but he knew his outlander guests knew what caliber of revel this was.
It was up to them to decide whether they’d immerse themselves fully in the stream of Lucidity, and truly Awaken themselves to the splendors of this hidden bastion of creativty, or whether they’d come prepared.
Fadi’Mongi could hardly wait. It’d been nearly nine centuries since an outlander had attended Festival, and for the first time in his slightly more than two millennia ruling, he was comfortable with the people coming.
                    Will wonders ever cease?

cursedshopkeep:
“Do you think I’m pretty?”
How long had the Great Spirit of Boundaries been sitting in that chair? That was a very good question; and one that no doubt would never get an answer-- but at the posed question, he raised a hand before rolling his left shoulder; two of his three eyes closing as his head cocked to the side.
“I wouldn’t say so much ‘conventionally pretty’ as much as... Say,  the certain, cruel attractiveness that a predator has while on the hunt.  Overall, a much more intriguing, and in my opinion, a much more appealing aesthetic. ‘Conventional pretty’ is a dime a dozen; ‘conversationally eye-catching’, on the other hand...”

@nadiroftime
“Hello and welcome to my little shop.”
Of horrors.
Tumblr media
“Don’t mind me. Just browsing for now...” A lie; Kassam had no intention of purchasing anything here. Their lessons with Fadi had more than assured them that the things in this shop would probably be harmful to own-- and when you could create an instant fortress for yourself, weaponize it, and turn it into a weapon of your own, what did you need of trinkets?
“How do you come into such objects, if I might ask?” Their voice was impassive-- though it was apparent that the combat machinist was more than intrigued from how the carefully sharpened nails on their left hand clicked against the polished mahogany and brass of their right arm.

Abnormal Traits
The swamp that surrounds the city proper of Deioru nao'Mongi appears to be an outright anomaly. Few explorers have returned from their journey to the fabled isle, and even fewer of those that returned have claimed to have found the city-- but those who go there are so rarely allowed to take things gained there with them, so very little evidence of the nao'Mongi Zora exists outside of the few ancient Zora documents that haven't had the names of the nao'Mongi struck off them.
It seems all of the fauna is Awakened to some extent, some able to shut down other magics, and some-- like the Violet ReDeads-- possessing their own in some cases.
The one thing that is always the same in retellings of being accepted through the borders of this mythic nation is of the differences in the sky between Hyrule proper and Deioru nao’Mongi-- the sky during the day is cyan, but nights are always a deep, unnatural magenta due to the Violet Moon.
A good rule of thumb to follow is if the medicine man in a foraging party of nao’Mongi says that a plant isn’t medicinal or good eating, it is either venomous, poisonous, or both; usually neurotoxic.
