WWEvent Day Four: Numbness
Gone.
It was all gone.
The house that she had built. Gone. The garden she had cultivated for decades. Gone. The old growth trees she protected and loved. Gone. Most of her things Gone.
She tried to keep track of what wasn’t gone. She was alive. Her cat was alive. Her car and what she could grab as the fire approached were saved. But it was hard. So hard to focus on that when she still smelled liked smoke, when the ashes were still on her clothes, when the smoke still swirled outside the shelter.
But there were even worse things.
There was one road out of the neighborhood and as the fire swept up from the canyon and there was barely enough time, she hadn’t seen her neighbors car. Not on the road out, not at the shelter, nowhere.
Gone. They could be gone.
So much gone. It was easier to not think at all.

WWEvent Day 3: Disrupted Healing Factor
For day three I'm using the characters from this little fic, but you don't have to read it to understand today's story.
Alice was used to blood. It came with the whole warrior thing. It came with hiking through remote areas. It came with life all things considered.
What she wasn’t used to was the amount of blood and the fact that the wound wasn’t healing.
It…it should be healing, her wounds always healed. She never knew how it worked it just did. She’d been impaled, she’d survived fire and water, nothing ever seemed like too much.
“Alice?”
Tansy. Of course it was Tansy. It was always Tansy who came and looked for her even though she was well aware that Alice could heal. It was…actually quite nice actually.
“Is something wrong?” Tansy asked.
“It won’t stop bleeding, I…I don’t know…”
“Okay, alright, let’s get this wrapped up, stop the bleeding the old fashioned way,” Tansy said. Alice was still in shock of the situation and held out her bleeding arm.
Tansy pulled bandages out of her bag and set them aside. She took her water skin and washed some of the blood away before making quick work of the wrapping. There was blood seeping through a little and Tansy put on another layer.
“I just…I just don’t know why.”
“What did you cut yourself on? Was it a blade? Or did you nick it on something running?”
“A tree,” Alice said. She didn’t know where exactly, she’d been running to catch up to where Tansy and the others were when it happened.
“Alright….”
“I don’t know why…”
“We’ll figure this out, let’s get back to base, this’ll probably need stitching,” Tansy said as she stood. She reached out her hand and Alice too it with her good arm and stood.
The wound still wasn’t healing.

WWEvent Day 2: "There's a hand..."
Day Two: "There's a hand, I can see them!"
Cara felt the rumble first, and then heard it, and knew, without even turning to look behind what it was.
Avalanche.
A big one by the sound of it. She knew she was fucked. She wasn’t that good of a snowboarder and she was furthest up the hill. Her last thought before the wave of white hit her was that she hoped her friends could outrun it.
White. She was surrounded by crushing white. She didn’t know how deep she was buried or how long the small pocket of air would last. She tried not to panic.
Water dripped on her nose and she realized she was facing upwards. Slowly she tried to dig upwards hoping beyond hope that she wasn’t buried that deep. She dug slowly, hoping nothing collapsed as she did.
There was air above her. She could reach most of her hand out. She didn’t think she could dig herself out but…it was something, it was a start. She managed to get her scarf off and out of the hole hoping the red fabric would attract attention.
Cara waited, and waited.
Stay calm, stay awake, someone will find me.
Time passed. Then she felt vibrations and then voices. She waved the scarf as much as she could.
“There’s a hand! I can see her!”
Cara felt relief sweep over her. Tom. Her friend was alive, she was found. She didn’t know how long it would take to get her out but she was no longer alone.

I'm so excited to be doing the whumperless whump event this year! Some stories will be short, others long. Along with whumperless I've decided to make it all Lady Whump as well. Enjoy!
Day One: "Fate really has it out for you, huh?"
There was a knock at the door and Nathan rolled over with a moan. It couldn’t be more than two in the morning. The knock came again and he rolled out of bed. He was somewhat on duty, a medic was never really off duty and someone probably needed help.
Nathan opened the door to see Hana, covered in dirt and debris and holding a hand over her bloody arm. It was the third time in as many days that Hana had shown up at his door.
“Fate really has it out for you, huh. What happened?” He asked as he ushered her inside.
“I was patrolling near the lake when I slipped and fell. And then rolled down the hill. Then slipped again on my way back up. Twice.”
“I guess it’s a good thing you’re not hurt worse.”
Nathan washed the blood from Hana’s arm and the cut wasn’t too deep, it would need a few stitches but it could have been far worse.
“Can you please try not to injure yourself tomorrow.”
“I won’t, I’m off duty,” Hana said. Nathan sighed and started stitching.

I know it feels so corny to write sometimes, but authors, I absolutely live for the scenes where a character's injuries are finally listed out loud, like a grocery list of physical damage. Whether it's a doctor at the hospital bedside, or an assessment in the field, the running list of injuries and ailments... mwah. Never tired of it. Tell me how fucked up they are! Tell me!

the question “are you alright?” being met with silence from a character…
…who is pale and soaked in sweat with wide eyes and a desperate hand over their mouth
…whose limbs have gone slack, eyes rolled to the back of their head
…who’s clutching their chest and turning blue
…with trembling lips and tears rolling down their cheeks
…with wet, heavy eyes and a blank stare

i feel like an often-overlooked downside to 10-episode seasons and the death of the "monster of the week" format is that we get way less whump variety nowadays. used to be that there'd be dozens of opportunities for your fave to get punched or kidnapped or hypnotized or what have you. these days if it doesn't fit into the main plot, it just doesn't happen. this is a tragedy. we should be protesting.

injured noises
heavy/harsh/deep breathing
panting/hyperventilating
ragged breathing - they can't get enough air in, they can't breathe
breathing sharply - not even realising it, it's just instinctual to hiss like that after being slashed and hurt
shuddering breaths; stunned from everything that has happened while steeling themselves for more
whimpering - because of a yell suppressed
acute/emotional pain responses: yelping, screaming, shrieking, wailing
the facade breaking - face falling, all the suppressed noises coming up and out of their broken body; they cry for much longer than they even thought they had energy for
other quiet noises of pain: gasping, hissing, grunting, groaning

My sister saw this one in the wild. I believe it was at a historic battlefield, which might explain the sort of staff who write signs like this
I love how it goes from silly

‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️
Hey, this is important and I'm gonna use up spoons I maybe shouldn't to spread awareness of this because it's that important! There is a wide-reaching heat dome expected over the next 3-5 days (as of 6/20/2025). Especially if you and your loved ones are immunocompromised, elderly, pregnant, or disabled, take precautions to stay safe. Stay inside with the AC on as much as you can. If you don't have AC, look now for a library, cooling center, or another community space that has it where you can spend as much time as possible in over the next several days. If you do have to be outside, limit your time outside, hydrate well with electrolytes, wear sunscreen and reapply it as needed, and wear loose fitting and light colored clothing so it doesn't absorb as much heat. Check on your friends and loved ones, especially those who are at high risk. Familiarize yourself with the symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke and what to do about them.
Also, Dr. Rubin (and his wife, who's really cool and smart too) is on multiple platforms, including Instagram and Substack spreading awareness of health issues and what's going on with public health in the US. I've found them both to be good sources of reliable information in an accessible manner. He also has a book on allergies and allergic diseases coming out, if that's something you'd be interested in learning more about. People like @thebibliosphere, I'm not sure if it's going to talk about MCAS, but he does talk about it in some of his videos.
"Signs of heat stroke
High body temperature
Hot, red, dry or damp skin
Fast, strong pulse
Headache
Dizziness
Nausea
Confusion
Passing out
Heat stroke occurs when the body is unable to regulate its temperature. This happens when the sweating mechanism fails and the body cannot cool down, according to the CDC.
Having a heat stroke can cause the body temperature to rise to 106°F or higher within 10 to 15 minutes.
How to treat someone with heat stroke
If you see any of the listed signs, call 911 immediately because a heat stroke can be life-threatening. Then move the person to a shady area and cool them off with something, but do not give them anything to drink.
Signs of heat exhaustion
Heavy sweating
Cold, pale and clammy skin
Fast, weak pulse
Nausea or vomiting
Muscle cramps
Tired or weakness
Dizziness
Headache
Fainting
How to treat someone with heat exhaustion
Move the person to a cool place, and give them some water to sip. Some cooling methods include wetting the skin, soaking clothing with cool water, or giving them a cold shower or ice bath if possible.
Call 911 if symptoms last more than an hour, if they get worse or if they are throwing up."
