Carpet Cleaning Tips for Homeowners with Pets
Difficulties With Pets and Clean Carpets
If you have pets in your home, you know how hard it can be to keep your carpets clean and odor-free. As they shed, their fur tends to build up in your carpet. Plus, accidents can happen at any time, causing stains and unpleasant smells throughout the house. Fortunately, you do not have to choose between removing your carpets or giving up your pets. Cleaning up accidents when they occur and using odor eliminators as well as keeping your animals clean can minimize their effect on your floors. Read on for some ideas you can try between professional carpet cleaning services to keep your home looking and smelling fresh.
Cleaner Pets Equals Cleaner Carpets
Pets are unaware of the havoc they can wreak on the cleanliness of your home. But you can help limit the amount of dirt they drag into the house or other messes they may leave behind by trying some of the suggestions below:
Keep a towel close to the door they use to go outside. As they come back in, wipe their paws off before the step onto the carpet.
While cats will take care of the bathing on their own, dogs who get bathed regularly will create less mess to transfer to the carpet.
Brushing excess hair off of your dog or cat daily will reduce the amount of hair that ends up on the carpet. This process also gets rid of dead skin which can also help them look and smell better.
If you have spaces in your home that don’t have carpeting, consider confining your pet to only that area. At the very least you can keep them there when you are not home to watch them.
Artificial ingredients and colors that are often found in pet foods can stain your carpet. Try to find pet foods with more natural ingredients.
Untrimmed nails can snag which can ruin the carpet fibers. Cat’s nails should be trimmed every 10 days to 2 weeks. Dog’s nails should be trimmed every 1 to 2 months.
Prevention: Stop Stains and Odors Before They Set Into Your Carpet
While you should always clean up messes on the carpet as soon as you notice them, you can help to keep them from getting out of control with the following tips:
Help prevent odors by placing a fabric softener sheet under the cushions of your pet’s favorite lounge chair.
Minimize the amount of dirt your pets bring in from outside by placing mats at both the outside and inside of every door they use.
Create a cleanup kit by filling a bucket with spray stain removers, rags, paper towels, and disposable wipes. Keep it handy so you can grab it quickly when you spot an accident.
Vacuuming at least 3 times a week is one of the keys to preventing dirt and hair from building up in the carpet.
Cleaning Up After Your Furry Loved Ones
When your pet has an accident, cleaning it up quickly is the best way to prevent the stain from becoming embedded in the carpet. Start by cleaning up the moisture and debris if there is any. Then use a pet-friendly carpet cleaner that will work to remove pet stains and odor. Below are some more ideas for cleaning up after your pet:
Hair
Before vacuuming, wrap masking tape around an old paint roller and attach it to an old broom or mop handle. Use it like a giant lint roller to pick up hair before vacuuming and help prevent your vacuum from getting clogged. Raking your carpet with a rubber-bristled carpet rake can help as well.
Urine
Pet stores carry safe formulas to clean pet urine, but you can also make your own non-toxic cleaner at home. Lay down an old towel over the urine and apply pressure to remove moisture. Then add three or four drops of liquid dish washing detergent to 1 cup of warm water to clean the area and rinse it with a clean towel and water. Add two parts water and one-part white vinegar to the affected area to remove the order and deter your pet from soiling there again. Lay paper towels on top of the area and use books to weigh them down to help absorb more moisture.
Stains
Cleaning urine, feces, vomit and blood stains from your carpet can be challenging. There are products specifically designed to remove set-in pet stains, but you must follow the instructions exactly to see results. Getting these stains out of your carpet will require determination and a little elbow grease. Never use steam cleaners as the heat will only set the stain more into the carpet.
Odor
To avoid toxins, use baking soda to get rid of odors. Sprinkle and let it sit for a of couple hours and then vacuum. Pet stores sell enzyme treatments that can be used for removing odors as well. But before using any enzyme treatment, use an extracting carpet cleaner to force only clean water into the carpet and extract it back out. This will remove any chemicals left in your carpet from previous cleaning or treatments.
Hire a Professional Carpet Cleaning Service
While you can help to prevent stains from setting into your carpets, tough stains cannot be removed with regular household cleaners. Having your carpets professionally cleaned two or three times per year can provide benefits other than stain removal. A professional carpet cleaning can remove allergens, restore beauty and actually extend the life of your carpet.

The Importance of Cleaning Your Commercial Carpets
What Impact Does The Carpet Have On Your Business?
Are your business’carpets sending the wrong message to your employees and those who come into your office? Most people don’t realize that the cleanliness of their building can have a huge impact on success of their business. Hiring services like a professional carpet cleaning company not only by improves the appearance of your office space, but also makes it a healthier place to be.
The high traffic volume that business carpets can experience quickly builds up dirt and shows wear and tear. Keeping it clean will keep it looking new and increase its longevity. Carpets in a business should be professionally cleaned once or twice a year depending on the amount of foot traffic in it receives.
The Benefits of Professional Carpet Cleaning
Business owners should ensure all carpeted areas are vacuumed at least once a week between professional cleanings. Here are some more benefits of having your business carpets cleaned by the experts regularly:
Increase Employee Productivity with Clean Carpets
An employer who is passionate about his own business encourages his employees work harder. Employees are going to feel less motivated to do their best when they are staring at a dirty carpet that’s never been cleaned. One way a business owner can show his pride in his business is to keep rugs and carpets clean by hiring a professional cleaning service.
Clean Carpets Mean Less Employee Sick Time
Did you know that carpeting is your business’ best air filter? Bacteria, dust mites and allergens can get embedded deep into carpets and may find their way into the breathing air where they can cause respiratory problems, allergic reactions, and other health issues. In turn, employees get sick and increase the number of sick days they use. The only way to get these allergens out of the carpet is with a commercial cleaning that uses very hot water and special chemicals. The high temperature of the water used by most carpet cleaning professionals kills off these allergens so that they are no longer a health threat and leaves the surface of the carpet fully sanitized.
Gain Customers with Beautiful Carpeting
No matter how amazing your products are, if your business looks grungy and unkempt it will deter customers. Appearances matter, clean carpets will make customers want stay a little longer and spend more money while they are there.
Dirt is constantly being tracked in areas of carpeting that receive high volumes of foot traffic which causes them to deteriorate. Often these areas called “traffic lanes” appear darker than others. Regular carpet cleanings will remove the dirt and slow down these effects and the carpet fibers will be restored.
Show Your Pride with Professional Carpet Care
Even in our new world of technology, word-of-mouth advertising is still one of the best ways to get your business name out there. The look and smell of an office or shop says a lot about your business to the members of the community. Having dirty, soiled carpets could give the wrong impression.
Having a professional carpet cleaning is the best way to remove tough stains. Using the hot water extraction method, professionals can remove any of the following stains:
Coffee spills
Dirt and mud
Ink
Pet stains
Red wine
Show your pride in your business by having your carpets professionally cleaned!
Higher Quality Carpet Cleaning
Are you trying to save money by having your employees clean your carpets? It may seem like a good idea, but they likely don’t have the right skills and you’ll run the risk damaged or torn carpets. The cost of purchasing your own carpet cleaning equipment and chemicals and paying an employee will end up being higher than the fee of a professional carpet cleaner. Over time debris and allergens collect in the carpet and get embedded within the fibers. This can cause the fibers to split and weaken. Dust and other debris will adhere to a dirty carpet more than a clean carpet, therefore, removing this build up will help improve the longevity of the carpet. Professional carpet cleaners know the specific requirements to clean all carpet types.
Professional Commercial Carpet Cleaning to the Rescue
When you care about the appearance of your business, it shows. Make sure your carpets are sending the right message. You may not see it at first, but a room can begin look dirty and outdated simply by the condition of the carpet. You can keep not only the fibers looking new but improve the look and feel of the room with a professional carpet cleaning.
Regular, daily vacuuming is important to help keep your carpets free of debris in between professional cleanings. However, a vacuum will only remove surface dirt. The debris that is left behind will become embedded with the fibers will stay there until it receives professional treatment.
The Cleaning Equipment You Use is Important
Vacuumms don’t leave residues on your carpet, but some carpet cleaning machines will. Cheap or old models can be inefficient and leave some of the cleaning solution behind. The equipment used by a professional cleaner is always updated and uses commercial cleaning products to restore carpeting to a like-new condition. Professionals also know how to use the hot water extraction technique to achieve the best results, leaving the fibers free of all dirt and stains.
The best way to increase the appearance and longevity of your carpet while contributing to a healthier environment for your customers and employees is by having it professionally cleaned annually. The spring season is a great time to remove the dirt and debris that has settled in your business over winter with a professional carpet cleaning. If you are needing to have your carpet professionally cleaned, and live in the Peoria, AZ area contact Neato Carpet Care to schedule an appointment for your business today!

Understanding Your Carpet
Is Carpet a Good Choice For You?
Installing new flooring in your home is one of the most important investments you will make. You have several options to choose from, including carpet, wood, tile and more. There are several things you should keep in mind when making your choice, including how often the floors should be professionally cleaned. Understanding how carpet is made and the many different varieties that are available can help you determine if carpet is right for your home. And of course, if you decide to go with carpeting, you will need to find a quality carpet cleaning company.
Why carpet is a good choice for many
Carpet is easily the most popular flooring type installed in modern homes, with good reason: It’s less expensive, easy to install and you can’t beat the variety of choices available to you. Here are a few reasons why carpet is a fantastic flooring choice for you:
When it comes to styles, patterns and colors to choose from the possibilities are endless.
Carpet makes a great sound barrier due to its cushioned surface and walking on carpet is much less noisy than other flooring options.
During the colder seasons, carpet provides insulation keeping it warm underfoot.
If the safety of family members is a concern, carpeting offers a non-slip surface that also provides a cushion if breakable items are accidentally dropped.
Synthetic carpets are generally treated with stain resistant treatments, which makes them easy to clean and maintain.
Types of Carpet Fibers
Synthetic and natural fibers are both used in making carpets. How each room is used or lived in is the best way to determine what type of fiber you should choose. There are five basic types of carpet fiber:
Wool
As one of the leading fiber options, wool is the only natural fiber used to make carpets. Preferred for its natural beauty, wool does have natural soil resistance qualities, but is not stain resistant as synthetic fibers. It is durable and when well cared for can last for a long time. It is also considered an eco-friendly floor covering.
Nylon
Of all the fibers, nylon is the most stain resistant carpet fiber available, when treated. Homes with pets and children can benefit from this carpet fiber as well as those who entertain frequently. Nylon is commonly used in high traffic areas like hallways and stairs.
Polyester
If you have a more normal level of traffic in your home, polyester provides a luxurious look and feel. It also offers a wide selection of colors and styles to choose from.
Olefin
While not as durable nylon or polyester, olefin is resistant to moisture, mold, and mildew. It’s not as comfortable to walk on making it best suited for basements and outdoors.
Acrylic
Though not as widely available, acrylic is less expensive than wool and could be used as a synthetic alternative.
Textures of Carpeting
Carpet texture is defined as how the fibers of the carpet are attached to the backing of the carpet. Generally speaking, there are three different types of carpet texture: Loop, cut-pile and cut-loop
Loop
As the name suggests, the fibers in loop pile are bent into little loops that are uncut on the carpet surface. Durable and stain-resistant, this texture usually has a low profile and limited cushioning and is considered ideal for heavy traffic areas. Within the loop pile family are:
Berber is the most popular style of loop carpet and can be constructed as a level-loop or multi-loop carpet.
Level loop features short loops that stand up well in high traffic areas.
Multi-level loops mean the tops of the loops vary in height to give a carpet a patterned texture.
Cut Pile
Cut pile carpet consists of yarns that are cut at the ends giving them a soft feel that makes them perfect for bedrooms, living rooms and family rooms. The amount of twist in the yarns is the main variance among the styles giving them different levels of durability. There are five basic styles of cut pile carpet:
Plush has a smooth texture with an elegant appearance.
Saxony also has a smooth finish, but the fibers are longer with more body. The longer fibers mean footprints linger and furniture creates dents.
Textured cut pile has fibers of uneven lengths to create a rougher surface consistency.
Frieze (also known as shag) carpet has long fibers and isn’t recommended for high traffic areas.
Cable is the most comfortable of all the textures due to its long fibers.
Cut-loop
Cut and loop is yet another type of carpet that has a combination of high cut tufts and lower loops in a variety of patterns. Cut-loop carpets offer good performance and are good for hiding dirt and stains but are slightly less durable than loop carpets.
Tufted Carpet Construction
A tufting machine works like an over sized sewing machine with hundreds of needles that insert loops of fiber into the carpet’s backing to form the face pile of the carpet. The majority of residential carpet is manufactured as tufted carpet. The quality and durability of the carpet is most influenced by the twist of the fibers and the density of the tufts. Below is a list of components that go into the construction of a carpet:
Twist
Twist refers to how tightly the fiber has been twisted. The tighter the twist, the better the carpet will resist crushing and matting. Most cut pile carpet styles have between 3-6 twists per inch.
Density
The amount, and how tightly packed together the fibers are within the carpet is called density. The closer together the fibers are placed, the denser the carpet will be, and the better it will wear and perform.
Stain Resistant Carpet
The primary factor in determining stain resistance is carpet fiber type: nylon, polyester, olefin or wool. Most manufacturers also apply post-production stain protection treatments to enhance each fiber’s natural stain resistant properties.
Dye Methods
There are two popular methods for dying carpet:
Solution Dyed – In order to give the carpet stronger stain and fade resistance, the fiber is dyed before the fiber are woven.
Continuous Dyed – When the post-tufting process is completed, this process is what will achieve solid colors.
Color Selection
When choosing a color scheme for your carpet, consider the walls, window treatments and other furnishings. Bring fabric and color with you when talking to the flooring installation experts.
Once you have your new carpet installed, remember that keeping it looking beautiful will require regular professional cleaning. When you are ready for that first cleaning, give Neato Carpet Care in Phoenix a call!
