The Solution of Susan
“I’ve just lost my entire family in a horrible accident,” said Susan Pevensie.
“I too,” said the old man. “But you’re so young.”
“I’m older than I look.”
“I too,” said the old man, with a twinkle in his eye. “Perhaps you should call me grandfather.” And when his old, wooden box was bigger on the inside Susan wasn’t even surprised.

if you want to ask a bisexual or asexual person about their sexual history to verify that they’re queer, but you don’t want them to take it the wrong way, try this useful communication technique:
give them twenty dollars and go away.

On The Topic of Eliot Spencer
I’ve been thinking a lot about the (many) women Eliot dates/hooks up with.  Like, it’s always played up that he’s a Casanova and a charmer but every word out of his mouth about any woman he’s ever been with is respectful.  At one point Hardison goes on about Eliot being such a playboy and says something about stewardesses and Eliot is all “First of all, they’re flight attendants, they don’t like being called stewardesses.”  (The phrasing of this is stunning to me; to Eliot, all the information he needs to not call flight attendnts stewardesses is that they don’t like it touches me deeply)
And then there was that one Fashion Job where he rolls up in that damn fine fashion week getup (the eyeliner, dear god I will never be over Eliot with eyeliner and glasses with his hair pulled back BE STILL MY HEART) and when they look at him funny he’s just like “I dated a lot of models, okay?”
Eliot respects the women he dates, but more than that he learns from them.  He doesn’t regard their experiences as silly or frivolous and Eliot, the information sponge, a man with an absolutely astounding eye and memory for detail, does not regard their information as less valuable because it’s sometimes feminine.
As a woman who has had so many men feign interest in my hobbies to get into my pants, or who has had men focus on my looks with out giving a good goddamn what’s between my ears instead of my legs, Eliot “Hey you’re super pretty lets have sex and then I’ll make you dinner while you teach me about interior design” Spencer means so, so much to me.

Ooh, fun!
1. "The sea tells us," she said, "that all things come and go in their season. So it is with Weavers. We are given to the people, but we are also given to ourselves. Among those we serve, but separate. We are the makers, the healers, the buriers, the mourners. We walk in the Deeping."
2. But she says her new name again, pleased at the sound of her voice. She'd nearly worked herself hoarse, trying to change its quality to a boy's highish tenor from her own feminine contralto. But she thought she had it now. "John Thornton."
3. They sang songs together, songs of battle and the strength of the Dwarves, or simpler songs of home and hearth. Songs of missing those gone to battle. Songs to wish them home, or, failing that, to wish their spirits whole to Mahal's halls.
4. Her mouth tasted like metal, and she was starting to imagine that the only functional part of herself was those damned implants. Damn Cerberus. She wanted to sleep, but her legs wouldn't stop walking.
So inconocible challenged everyone to post context-less sentences from all of their WIPs, and who am I to resist?
It doesn’t matter that she loves his body — it almost doesn’t matter that she loves him — the only thing that matters is that Donnie thinks she’s going to stop.
"Like I said, you can do it if it makes you feel better." Michael shifted his hand on her waist again; this time, he drew her closer, adjusted her position to match his, and hating him suddenly seemed impossible, with his warmth spreading over her skin. "But I…I am sorry, Shepard."
"Leo," says April, and the chill comes over him again. "I haven’t seen Donnie in almost a month."
If Jenkins insisted on one more recounting of how their new XO had taken out a thresher maw single-handedly on Akuze, Kaidan would have to strategically lose his appetite.
He is so weary, so done with being alive, but still he keeps breathing, and he stands slowly as Donnie watches. “Don’t talk to me. You get to go home.”
"What are you — Shepard, why are you in my apartment?" You’re in the Terminus, he thought, trying to fight his visor into place with numb fingers. “What happened?”
Don has started to believe that Alice’s universe is populated with their evil doubles, because Alice had to learn her tricks somewhere — and he is, in total honesty, terrified of that universe’s April.
"Shepard, creative? You realize you’re talking about a soldier who went full biotic melee on a ship full of slavers. Because someone dared her to.”
Her lips are painted, her cheeks lightly pinked, and even as part of Fenris disdains the artifice, innocent though it may be, he can’t help thinking her mouth reminds him of a plum: dark violet, all sweetness within.
Before the buzz of annoyance under her skin faded, Eliza coughed — one more cringe rewarding her as her throat clenched and stung — and called the salamanders by name.
I uh apparently have a lot of WIPs. Care to take a guess as to what they’re from? :D
I am tagging everyone ever who wants to take part, because I love reading your answers!

Writers on Writing
I sit down for eight hours every day— and sitting down is all. In the course of that working day of eight hours I write three sentences which I erase before leaving the table in despair.
-Joseph Conrad (1857-1924), letter to Edward Garnett on March 29, 1898
I find it only too easy to write opening chapters— and at the moment the story is not unfolding. I squandered so much on the original ‘Hobbit’ (which was not meant to have a sequel) that it is difficult to find anything new in that world.
-J.R.R. Tolkien (1892-1973) on the genesis of The Lord of the Rings, in a letter to Stanley Unwin in February 1938
You don’t say, ‘I’ve done it!’ You come, with a kind of horrible desperation, to realize that this will do.
-Anthony Burgess (1917-1993)
I tend to write in a fragile, edgy, doubtful sort of way, trying things out all the time, never confident I’ve got something right.
-William Trevor (1928-) in 1989

Varric is asexual. Bianca is named after Varric’s best friend from childhood who was murdered by The Carta and used her dying words to ask Varric never to forget her or leave her. He kept that promise by naming his crossbow after her and bringing her around everywhere.
