I have a #perfect immune system and thus, do not get sick. (except for that one time last year. we don't talk about that.) but like if I did (again), I think Jake would be overly-concerned because it doesn't happen super often/at all. so I think he would be annoying and thus bitten repeatedly. (affectionately. and consensually?)

Meanwhile, Jake would be frustratingly hard to take care of. because he would insist he wasn't sick, thereby fine, thereby doing shit he absolutely shouldn't. he's lucky i like him that he's sick or i would nottt be cleaning up his vomit otherwise 😒

As I was writing the intro for Ember Blade Must Die, I suddenly started branching off thinking about The Chaotic Four in a horror-based rpg. So, here are my thoughts from that:

TW: Dark themes such as suicide and self harm (if you squint) under the cut!

After hearing urban legends of a haunted house, the four take it upon themselves to investigate it for themselves because they felt obligated as Avengers to make sure no harm was being done to the people in its area.

Basically, the game would just be the four of them moving through this house, fighting any malevolent forces that manifest inside, and trying not to either die or let the happenings of the house get to them.

The four playable characters would be The Chaotic Four: Nevermore, Aerith, Thor, and Loki. Thor and Nevermore would have the highest critical hit rates while Loki and Aerith would have the highest chance for saving throws.

As any horror game, there was originally gonna be a “sanity” bar, but… ethical concerns. So, I didn’t want it! Instead, I gave them each their own bars for the player to keep an eye on, each with their own negative effects, which actually ended up making things a lot more interesting. Though, I will say, some of these abilities make some pretty dark implications and mentions, so be wary of that if you’re going to continue reading this…

These bars will be raised as each para experiences strange happenings within the house, and can be placated by one another’s abilities, but the most effective method to lowering them would be spending time in safe rooms. (Or maybe also items found around the house, idk)

Nevermore -> Paranoia

Activates the random chance for Nevermore to attack an ally

During combat, each attack is immediately followed by the status effect “Remorse” which sharply lowers her attack and defense for a few turns*

When her Paranoia exceeds 75%, Remorse will be replaced by “Frenzy”, which sharply raises her attack and defense, as well as activating the random chance for her to attack the same ally twice in a row

Loki can slightly lower Nevermore’s Paranoia with the ability “Reassurance”

*If she ends up downing an ally, Nevermore has the chance to activate an ability called “Suicide Pact” in which she deals a critical hit to herself that wipes out the rest of her health

Aerith -> Disorientation

Activates the random chance for her controls to switch (up is down, left is right, etc.)

During combat, she’ll have a higher rate of missing attacks and she has the random chance to skip her own turns

If her Disorientation exceeds 50%, it will activate the random chance for her to either perform a completely different from what the player selected or give her turn to the enemy

Nevermore can slightly lower Aerith’s Disorientation with the ability “Guidance”

Thor -> Desperation

Activates the random chance for Thor to begin taking damage intended for his allies

If his desperation exceeds 80%, the random chance for an ability called “Self-Destruction” will activate, in which Thor’s attack will sharply increase, but that damage is also dealt to himself

Aerith can slightly lower Thor’s Desperation with the ability “Encouragement”

Loki -> Anguish

Activates the random chance for Loki to deal damage to himself

During combat, he may also skip a turn to deal damage to himself

If his Anguish exceeds 90%, Loki has a chance to add small percentages to any of the other paras’ bars

Thor can slightly lower Loki’s Anguish with the ability “Consolation”*

*When his Desperation level is high, Thor may also take damage Loki attempts to deal to himself

Anyways, the game would come to an end if all four of them are downed in combat (of course) or if all four of them reach 100% in their bars (which would result in them fleeing the house). And that’s all I got! 😅
