Facebook
Facebook. I used Facebook a lot more when I was younger, I would post silly posts about what I was doing at that current time and post all of the worst photos of my friends and I, which of course I look back at now and cringe. Nowadays I mostly just keep it to keep up with what my family and occasionally my friends post and sometimes I’ll post some photos to an album. Oh and of course watch some cute animal videos. Already though my Facebook profile is pretty much completely private unless you are my friend and I think that’s important. I have looked over my privacy settings and I am pretty happy, you cannot see much at all, unless you add me and I accept.
We were asked to look at a fake profile that had been made up, with some obvious concerns. If this fake person’s employers or people she served looked up her profile, I don’t think it would go down well. Everyone has their off days and maybe wants to have a moan about work or something that’s happened, but I don’t think that your pretty public social media profile is the place to do it. It doesn’t look great and it doesn’t give your employer’s the best reputation when people know their staffs are complaining online. With social media I think it is super important to be careful what you post because you never know who is going to see it. Also keeping your personal details like your DOB private is essential because you never know who could use those details.
Another thing we had to look more into was Facebook groups. I have never personally made a Facebook group, but I am part of some. I don’t think I have ever posted in one either. I think groups are really useful, for example one that I am part of is one for my local area, and yes you get some people who just like to moan about things on it, but I also see some really useful information about events that are happening or just things that might have happened that day like road works, or someone has found a lost bankcard and is looking for the owner. And of course if there are things you aren’t interested in reading on the group, you don’t have to.
I like the idea of creating a Facebook that is just for my family members and with the current situation of Covid, I think that will be a really good way for people to post photos and updates that they only really want family members to see. I think I might go and create that right now.

Emails
So let’s talk about email. Such a useful thing right? I’ll be honest for someone who has never really needed to use emails for work other than the occasionally monthly send in of my invoice, I tend to use them daily, I don’t even know for what, I just like checking them. Okay... I do a lot of online shopping... that’s why.
Anyway, I have learned a lot actually reading into how to use your emails properly. I have used the Cc and Bcc functions before but never really knew, 1. What they stood for, and 2. How useful they are. I think it’s a good, safe way to not have to share loads of different peoples email details with others, even if you want to send them the same email.
I don’t have much of a system to manage my emails normally, but since reading all this information I have created a folder for all my college emails, and for general work emails to go into, and it definitely makes it a lot easier to find important things, I really should have discovered this sooner. I might have to set up an online shopping one too, I’m sure this would benefit me a lot.
I think emails are a really important and useful tool, when you’re doing online learning or anything else, and don’t need and instant reply, it’s an effective way of getting all the information you need down and sent to whomever you need to get in touch with.

Learning Digitally
In this post I am going to be reflecting on learning digitally and how I am finding it. I have looked at the different characteristics that Alan Clarke wrote about in his 2008 book ‘E-learning skills’, and how they relate to me now as an online learner. I personally think i am strongly motivated to learn and have a positive attitude, even when I might not being doing my best, and I think these two characteristics are important because you’ve got to do the work yourself when its online. Another of his characteristics were that you had to be good with ICT, but to be honest in this day and age, I think as long as you have a basic understanding, most courses are probably manageable as there are a lot of easy resources out there and always someone on the course to help.
So far in my digital learning experience i have had a mixture of positive and negative aspects. We’ll start with the positive. I have really appreciated how much support I have received from the people running my course and the fact that I can go to them with any questions if I am struggling, and I’m not going to pretend I haven’t struggled. A negative is I have definitely been a little knocked off my feet with the sudden (what seems like) overload of online modules and reading I have had to do in the past two weeks, but I guess with the position I am going into it will all be important.
I have learned a lot of new stuff that I kind of thought I already knew, in terms of my job and learning online. It has made me use my devices more instead of just using them for social media, which is definitely a good thing.
As I said above my organisation has been great at supporting me and keeping in constant communication. They also made sure to give us out all our workload gradually in the hopes that it wouldn’t build up, which is a very good way to do it, since online they could just put it all out there straight away... it’s just my own fault I have let it get on top of me a little.. But I think I am finally getting over that mountain.

First Blog
Hi everyone,
My name is Fiona, I am 24, and I am starting this new blog as part of my new job. I have started a Modern Apprenticeship and we are currently trying to complete some badges to have on our digital profile.
In deciding to do this particular badge of starting a blog, I realised how much I don’t actually like to talk about myself online, but hey ho here we go...
I am super excited and nervous about my new job. It is all a completely new experience for me as I have been in my previous job for nearly 10 years. Also it is completely different from anything I have done before. My anxiety is starting to take over as I go in for my first official shift next Wednesday (rather than the online stuff we’ve been doing), but I am trying to power through and push myself to be the best I can be.
WISH ME LUCK.
