Optifast was a dumbass idea.
My New Years resolution is to treat myself with kindness rather than punishing my body. Sounds fair right?

My husband can’t remember if he has any bitcoins from back when they were worthless.
Can’t remember?! If he miraculously finds even half of one I’ll make him pancakes for a month (he has suggested another form of appreciation every day for a month ... ha)

So I’ve been a bit scared to post because of potential judgement, but I have gotten so desperate about my weight I’ve started doing Optifast.
I have a shake for breakfast and lunch, then have a normal, low-carbish dinner. I throw in a fish oil tablet, iron supplement and a kiwi crush to keep things regular.
I am on day 2 and to be honest, I’m actually really enjoying it. That shakes don’t taste all that bad (caramel is pretty good, waiting on my flavours to arrive) and I don’t know how it works but I hardly feel hungry at all. I get a bit hungry towards dinner time, but then struggle to actually get through my dinner because my stomach has shrunk from the liquid diet.
I’m impatient to see how this pans out. I’ve bought four boxes of 12 sachets, so that’s enough for 24 days (I got 2 bonus sachets) which makes it 23 days to go before I decide if I continue or not... I’ll keep updating!

Since becoming a parent this festive time of the year makes me hyper-aware how privileged our son is and how fortunate we are to have gifts under the tree, food on the table and no financial stress affecting our relationship. How do we raise him to recognise the advantage he has over others less fortunate? How do we raise him to be humble and kind? Ahhh navel gazing was so much easier pre kids!

15km of Mountain biking today, 7.5km with my little buddy on the back in his seat. Santa visited our family early with bikes complete with child seat - it’s super fun. We are so lucky to live near so many walking and biking tracks. We can get from our house to town, work and daycare almost completely off road, and there are loads of swimming holes dotted along the way which our dog loves. So I burned around 500calories which is pretty good... have eaten around 1100 plus half a raw caramel slice (probably like 1000 in that haha). Not too shabby really. I’ve finished my Xmas shopping and have four days left as an accountant! Roll on Thursday night!

This was so worth using my last 300 calories on. It’s hot and I found out I accidentally accepted an Airbnb booking at our house for tomorrow night so have been frantically cleaning since the little guy went to bed.

My New Rules of Weight Loss
I’ve got quite the mission ahead of me. I’ve done it before, but really have got such terrible habits ingrained in my lifestyle I feel like I’m starting the learning process again. Here is my plan for getting this weight off:
1. Talk to my husband about NOT bringing home snacks until I’m a bit further down the track
2. Aim for between 1200-1550 calories a day
3. Exercise with decent intensity for 3 hours a week
4. Accept that mistakes and unexpected events happen. But navigate them carefully rather than letting them become and excuse.
5. Weigh weekly, never daily
And that’s it! Simple huh? Now to actually do it...

I’ve got him for life yo...
My toddler keeps pulling the Xmas tree down on himself. He stands and watches it fall on him, mesmerised, and then lies underneath it in the carnage deciding what his reaction will be. Then he giggles.
He’s done it 3 times since the weekend...?

You don’t even know me!
I’m old enough to have kids on Tumblr (just), have a 14 month old son and a pretty groovy husband. I live in Taranaki, NZ and am pretty passionate about it - we have a perfect blend of career and lifestyle.
I love coffee, brunch, my labradoodle (Gemma) and Tennis. I used to love running and would like to do so again one day.
¿Que más? Hmm... I am super blessed to have a group of old high school friends who have all returned to the hometown like me, and have all started having babies. We all have little boys which is bizarre and amazing all at the same time.
I swear a little and reference songs a lot, you’ll get used to it.

Here I am, this is me
Where to start?
2017 is almost through and we are reaching that magical time of the year where the new year beckons with such hope that we will be able to start fresh and magically wake up on January 1st with the willpower to achieve our hopes and dreams. To lose weight, save money, quit smoking, be a better person, spend less time on the inter webs and eat less smashed avocado and buy moar houses (NZers will get me, bonus points for that).
I guess I’m no different. There’s a lot I want to achieve and a lot I want to reflect on. To me, 2017 has been a year of me seeking help and fixing things, so I want 2018 to be the year of kicking ass.
I started 2017 on parental leave. My son was born in October 2016. I was struggling with post traumatic stress disorder (the birth didn’t go super well for me... a story I don’t tell for fear of the impact it would have on the future birth rate). So I started 2017 by going to my Plunket nurse and asking for help. It was the best. I received loads of support from the hospital and was able to move on.
In May I returned to work, to a new job. I soon realised I just can’t keep on being an accountant. I’ve been an accountant for almost ten years and with the exception of a few golden years for an amazing company I’ve been miserable the entire time. So a few months ago I applied for a job in the projects team at work and will be starting my new career in 2018!
So, I’ve spent 2017 assessing and making major changes in my life, and off the back of that here are my 2018 goals:
- excel in my new job, be fearless and embrace the change
- sell our house (currently getting it ready for market)
- build a house we love
- get to 70kg
- run regularly again
- get pregnant
That’s a lot!!! On top of all that I also want to be an amazing mama to my beautiful boy and a good wife to my lovely husband. I’m so excited to make some changes!!!
