One Year Later
Reflecting on one year since the Pulse Nightclub shooting happened. Every mass shooting is horrible and traumatic but this one hit much closer to home for me. This shooting was specifically an attack on love. I have many gay friends and family that I love and care about and the idea that they could be targeted during a night out, just because of who they are, breaks my heart. There are many ways this country is taking a step backwards but I continue to believe that love trumps hate and we will still progress. I also believe in the future generations and their ability to enact the changes we need. 🌈

Friendship breakup
Losing a friend has been really hard for me, in the midst of losing a friendship.  I had a friend that is still with us but the relationship has failed.  This has been one of the hardest things I’ve had to go through, almost harder than a friend that has passed away, only because I knew the friend that passed still cared about me and I still cared about her.  My living friend and I had a falling out over things that now don’t even matter, but I can’t seem to let go, even after years of battling with it.  I have reached out, but she’s not interested.  Why is a friendship breakup even harder than a romantic breakup?  Is it because a friend is someone you literally share everything with and are the ones that are supposed to be there even when romantic relationships fail?  Strong women should stick together and support each other, we all make mistakes.  Thank goodness for the friends I still have and the relationships I have been able to maintain, I suppose this is all just part of life and learning.

Had a great and much needed vacation. I usually prefer to get lost in a city, but sometimes even city girls need a dose of nature.

Memorial Day
It feels odd to me to say “Happy Memorial Day” when this is actually a day of mourning. As I get older I am trying to really look at what each of these holidays mean and why they became days that are recognized. I want to know why they are important in our history and also important still today. I have been lucky in my life that I have not lost any family or friends that have served, but I definitely have ancestors that lost their lives fighting for us and I feel their stories are still important. Their stories, whether old or new, are what make America what it is. Give respect and honor those that gave the ultimate sacrifice today, each individual person that has been lost meant something to someone and ultimately became a part of what our country is.

Don't take anything for granted
I lost a good friend of mine just over a week ago. Her death was sudden and heartbreaking. She is my inspiration to get off my ass and do something. My first post is dedicated to Allison Murdock, feminist, actress, teacher and all around good person.
