Srsly though, the Katherine thing is super disturbing. She just got marked as the worst sinner in the narrative. Her cardinal sin? Always prioritizing herself.

It's a shame for Elena because she finally started to feel comfortable wearing more open clothing and being more fun and now because of Katherine she's just not sure. She's back but she doesn't feel it she doesn't feel comfortable with her own body anymore.

But Elena and her clothing choices give me a lot of feelings because of stuff like this. She has a remarkably similar pattern, especially going into s4 and onwards, where in moments where she feels more confidence or comfort in herself (or tries her best to be and construct herself that way), she tends to wear more dresses or shorts or brighter colours, but after something traumatic she tends to dress in more jeans and cardigans and more practical clothing. You could see it in how she was dressing and how it shifted into season 4 after she found out about the sire bond as well as after she was forced to turn her humanity back on. So far s5 has had her in pretty bright colours, lots of shorts and patterned dresses, so seeing her in a loose fit and muted cardigan in 5x16 shows she’s pretty clearly traumatized by the whole possession thing. It’s very similar to what she was wearing when the Salvatores held her captive in 4x21, which is pretty distressing.
