Hi friends. Over the last month or so the admins have brainstormed and started on a number of changes based off the feedback we received from you guys, and we wanted to write to give you an update about those efforts and the group's semi-hiatus status.

It seems we’re all, admins included, in a really busy ooc season of our lives. Lots of us are working multiple jobs, going to school, moving, etc. Your admins specifically are having a hard time, in the midst of all going on ooc, to maintain the workload associated with running this group, having multiple characters, and completing an effective revamp. We love this group and you all deserve a team who can put in all of the activity and effort required to keep this group running as it should, but none of the admins are at a place in our lives where we can dedicate the right amount of time and effort into making this rp the best it can be right now. With that being said, we are making the very tough decision to close NYC Blacklist for now.

We love all of these characters and relationships dearly, and when we're out of this busy period we may consider reopening with the new changes and without the pressure to make them under a deadline. If that point comes and you’re still interested in the group and the relationships and plots you’ve built over the last two years, we’d love nothing more than to have you back then.

The discord server will remain open for those who want to keep in touch, and we hope you do.  Some of you have been around with us for years and we'd be heartbroken to lose you completely. We still want to hear about your characters and any writing you might continue to produce on your own, so please also let this server be a place to share any independent writing you produce either about your Blacklist muses or others.

Hi friends! Apologies for back-to-back updates, but we’re recognizing that our recent updates/requests have come at the last minute and haven’t been super clear about the future of this group, what we’re asking of you, and the upcoming changes. We’re hoping this post will clear things up a little bit! 

Beginning today and through (tentatively) Sunday, March 13th, our entire group is on a semi-hiatus. You are welcome to continue with replies if you want to, but we will not be checking for activity, etc. Admins intend to use this time to implement changes and get all things sorted for when we “re-open.” You can consider this a mini “revamp.” We love you all and the characters you’ve created a LOT and we sincerely, sincerely hope you all will stick around while we do this.

As for the changes - we’re basing them off of the feedback we received in the survey we sent around about a week ago. That being said, before we put all of our effort into implementing them, we think it’s important that you guys have an opportunity to share your thoughts about what we’ve come up with. We want to make sure that these are changes that will excite you and inspire your muse. So... let’s talk. Read on and if anything you read sounds super exciting at first glance or conversely really rubs you the wrong way and makes you wanna leave, please let us know. This is still a work in progress. 

Some important (summarized) survey information so you know where we’re coming from: 

100% of respondents indicated they wanted a more structured plot with plot drops and an overarching narrative that gives characters a reason to interact in certain ways. We agree.

80% of respondents wish The Real Blacklist was a more focal part of the plot and was used more routinely to shake things up. 

Based on that (and more), here’s a summary of what we’d like to do:

1. Break the characters into 3 tiers (tier names and details are a work in progress thank you):

Targets: rich and famous, slimy, scandalous, and/or otherwise noteworthy individuals who The Real Blacklist dislikes and aims to tear down. These folks may or may not send info to The Blacklist but are definitely being attacked by it.

Pawns: folks close to the targets, friends or perhaps secret enemies of the targets, folks who could influence/manipulate or be influenced to manipulate the targets, etc. Looking at partners, close employees, friends, family, etc. These folks likely send info to The Blacklist, especially when pressured, and may end up being collateral damage. 

Informants: people who actively feed information to The Blacklist about the targets or their close contacts. Looking at people that aren’t necessarily close to the targets, but may have interactions with them or their pawns. May or may not dislike the targets but gossip nonetheless. These folks DEFINITELY feed info to The Blacklist, have no reason to be attacked, and are usually in their good graces.

The goal in breaking characters into these tiers is to create built-in motivations and built-in dynamics/alliances/conflicts between characters. Of note, the tiers are flexible and may change for your character over time. If you don’t know which tier your character would fit into off the top of your head, that’s okay! We’ll talk - we’ve got ideas and you’ll get a say in which one they end up in. 

Newcomers to the RP would be asked to choose a tier and craft OC bios with that in mind. We’re also considering closing the RP except for wanted connections, so therefore anyone who comes in will have at least one connection from the get-go. 

Also, those goals and secrets we’re asking you to submit for your characters? They will be public and posted on bios, as will tiers, so you guys can plot amongst yourselves with that info in mind. 

2. Utilize The Real Blacklist more transparently and more frequently to move plots along. 

We’re hoping to post articles about once per month. These, of course, would be posted with explicit permission and collaboration with you guys so we avoid meta gaming and so we get effective fallout on the dash. Secrets and tiers (and obviously what happens on the dash) will help inform what direction we steer the plots via The Real Blacklist. 

Likewise, some folks have suggested that everyone should be able to submit scandalous stories, tips, anonymous gossip, etc. to The Real Blacklist. We’re super into this idea - working out some details about how to best do that. 

3. Utilize more structured plot drops, some related to The Real Blacklist and some not.

Because while this RP is structured around The Real Blacklist, a few folks have indicated they don’t want it to be the only focus always. Totally fair. We’re thinking these would happen every 3 months or so. You would get warning, you’d get some control over it, and you’d have ample (we hope!) time to write it out on the dash. We’ve already got a list of ideas for this, including some that you guys suggested in the survey. 

4. Group events will be primarily - if not entirely - on the dash.

A majority of folks find the discord events chaotic and hard to participate in. As we’ve grown as a group, we tend to agree. Working out the details about this still but we want to make these more accessible and functional for our group. We have some ideas for events, too, thanks to your feedback. 

5. Changes to character cap and member cap. 

It looks like 60% of us are in favor of increasing the number of characters a player can have to 4 or more, and interestingly, votes were 50/50 about introducing a member cap. We’re currently thinking about (as mentioned above) semi-closing the group to new members with the exception of someone who wants to take up a wanted connection or a pre-written bio/skeleton with a connected character already in play. Also leaning towards allowing more characters with some parameters about activity, but we're still deciding about these things so if you have feelings one way or another, we’d love to hear them. 

If you’ve read this far - thank you, you’re a champ. You all have built beautiful, dynamic characters and we want to create a place for exciting things to happen for them, and we want it to be enjoyable and sustainable for us all. If you read through all of this, you probably have feelings about it. good or bad. Whether those feelings are good or bad, please let us know. Send us a message, shoot us a DM, reply to this post even with just a “I approve” or a “I don’t approve” so we know if we’re headed in the right direction. We’re open to changing these plans, we just need to know how best to do that to suit everyone.

Hello friends! Hope we’re all doing well. We just wanted to thank you all for participating in our survey - it’s been really, really insightful and we have some really fun alterations in the works. Our first step in enhancing this group will be to include a few new features to our character bios, which we hope will help develop our plot and better create a divide between who is targeted by The Blacklist, who is working to expose those targets, and who will be collateral damage.

We're seeing that morale is a little low right now and lots of us are experiencing burnout, admins included.
