i'm as upset as any 10+ year old tumblr user to see the degradation of ask culture. since i've been making my own games, i get people in my notes reblogging one game regularly—weekly, daily, sometimes multiple time a day—desperate for interaction that their followers simply won't give them, even as those same followers reblog the game from them. it's awful to see people crying out for connection only to be ignored by people who can obviously hear them. it makes me sad!!! and it's frustrating!!!
but at a certain point, we have to accept that yelling about how things were 10 years ago isn't going to change people's behavior. a vast majority of tumblr users simply do not send asks, don't intend to, and will reblog ask games without sending any questions no matter how much we insist it's impolite. it's time for a new approach—so to that end:
for everyone reading this, i give you permission and highly encourage you to copy and paste my ask games (any ask game tbh) into a blank document, fill out every single question for the OCs or WIPs of your choice, and post it. without getting a single ask from anyone, share it anyway. one question at a time, everything in one giant text post, whatever. there's a good chance people who are too shy to send asks will appreciate getting to learn about your characters and stories, and maybe even encourage them to ask you for more details. and even if they don't, maybe you'll build the confidence to post whatever you want about your characters, whenever you want.
be free.

Is your OC secretive about their wealth? Or are they open about their financial or material resources?
Are there any secrets held by your OC's culture of origin that are held to be sacred? What are the punishments for revealing these to outsiders?

Has your OC ever been influenced by propaganda? How did this affect their behaviour? What are their feelings about it now?

If dividing up resources (perhaps rations or treasure) then would your OC always be scrupulously fair? Or would they be happy to keep as much back for themselves as possible?
Your OC is asked by a close friend or partner to give their view on a new outfit or set of clothing. It really doesn't look at all good on them and possibly even looks utterly awful. Would they lie and tell them it looks amazing? Bluntly tell them that they look ridiculous? Or tactfully suggest an alternative might suit them better?
Has your OC ever lied to get someone into bed? What did they promise? And what was the fallout when their deceit was revealed?
Is your OC always honest with children? Or does the occasional (or even frequent) lie to scare them into obedience feel quite reasonable?
Has your OC ever been cheated on by a romantic partner? What was the impact of this? Could they ever forgive this infidelity?
Would you OC ever sabotage someone else's success by spreading rumours or dropping a lie in the right ear? What might motivate them to do such a thing?
Has your OC ever broken a promise to another person? Did they ever intend to keep this promise? What made them break it?
Does your OC cultivate a public image that is entirely at odds with their true agenda? How far would they go to maintain this fiction?
Will your OC willingly admit when they are frightened or in pain? Or have they trained themselves to remain stoic at all times?
Does your OC distinguish between groups when it comes to their willingness to lie? Perhaps they would never lie to members of their family or tribe, but outsiders are fair game? Perhaps they instinctively distrust certain people based upon their sex or race or nationality?
What secret completely changed your OC's worldview once the truth was revealed? How did this revelation affect their sense of identity?
Who was the person who made a promise to your OC and then let them down? Have they ever forgiven them?
When it comes down to it, does your OC even believe that there is such a thing as the objective truth? Or is the world just a morass of conflicting beliefs, convenient lies and subjective opinions?
Can your OC handle the truth? Or would they prefer to live in blissful ignorance if given the choice?
How important is it to your OC that they maintain a certain image to those closest to them? How far would they go to maintain this image? What secrets do they conceal that might change how their friends or family view them?

Character asks!
These are more focused on the background stuff rather than the usual "what would the character do in XY situation" kinds of asks. I've been looking for something like this for quite a while and in the end decided to make my own. Feel free to use, go wild, enjoy
What was the original thought that led to the creation of this character?
How long was the process before the character reached its final version? (or a version that would be clearly recognizable as the character?)
What was the first thing you decided on, the character's name, appearance, personality or their role in the story?
And reverse, which one of the four things did you struggle with the most?
How did you choose their name and why? Was it simply based on vibes or is there any specific meaning behind the name? Are the reasons behind their name different in- and out of universe?
What was the thought process behind their appearance? Did you go mostly for the aesthetic or are there other reasons they look the way they do?
What is an aspect of their appearance that you like the most?
What is the origin of their personality? And let's be honest - how much of it is projecting?
How big is their role in the story? Do they make a frequent appearance or are they a character with little "screentime" but big influence? Or are they just a favourite background guy?
What is their main character arc in the story? Where do they start and how do they develop? Do they get a happy ending or is their story a tragic one?
Is there any existing character from other media that your character resembles? Was the resemblance intentional or was it a coincidence?
Do you have a playlist for the character? What songs do you associate with them and why?
Do you have a voice claim for the character? What do you imagine the character sounds like?
Do you have any quotes tied to the character, either from the story itself or from another source that fit them?
Have you ever made a moodboard for them?
Is there any memes or running jokes associated with the character, both in- and out of universe?
Are there any motifs or symbols associated with the character? How are they represented, in their design, personality or in some other way?
Does the character have other characters connected to them? Do you have a family tree and "offscreen" connections made up for them or do they exist in a vacuum purely for the purpose of the story?
What is your general favourite thing about the character? What is your least favourite?
Bonus question: share any additional thoughts, art, favourite scenes, anything you've been waiting for a chance to ramble about

Vegetable Symbolism OC Questions!
A little list of OC questions based on the symbolism of Vegetables in the interpretation of dreams. This is not intended to be an exhaustive list of all cultural or symbolic meanings, but rather just a small selection for entertainment, rather than educational, purposes. It may, however, encourage you to make a salad.
Carrot: Growth, Fertility, and New Beginnings.
Does your OC believe that someone needs to hit rock bottom - or at least suffer the full consequences of their poor choices - before they can be helped to make positive changes? Or would they spare no effort in trying to help a friend or family member they percieved as trapped in a cycle of negative behaviour?
Does your OC wish to have children of their own? Would they ever consider adoption? Or is it important to them that they have a birth child to carry on their lineage? If they do not want children then how do they respond to being asked about it?
At what age did your OC stop growing? Did they go through puberty notably earlier or later than their peers? Would they have quite liked to have grown a little more?
Are there any festivals or cultural traditions related to fertility in which your OC participates? If they have chosen not to continue these traditions then what was the reason? How do they feel about any fertility rites or practices they have encountered in other cultures?
Has your OC ever been involved in farming or agriculture? Or have they tilled the earth in a more modest setting? What is their view of food production in society? Is it something they understand and value? Or do they make little connection between the food they eat and the labour required to produce it?
Tomato: Nourishment, Vitality, and Love.
Does your OC seek out calorie-dense or highly nutritious foods to enhance their physical performance and survivability? Or is the taste or presentation of food as important (or more important) than its health-giving properties?
Does your OC find it easy to believe that they are loved? Or are they suspicious of ulterior motives? Perhaps they fear that once someone truly gets to know them then they will be repulsed or horrified? Or maybe they find it hard to imagine how anyone could not love them...
Is your OC generally seen by others as being healthy and fit? Or are they often sick or beset by mysterious aches and pains? Do they rather enjoy the attention that comes with being unwell? Or is it important to them that they are seen as strong and healthy?
Does your OC take care of their appearance? Do they apply beauty treatments or take potions or supplements to enhance their looks? Do they do this to appear alluring to others? Or purely for their own satisfaction? Are they entirely honest with themselves about this?
Does your OC enjoy preparing and cooking food for others? Is feeding other people a way they show love and nurture others? Or is making food something they avoid? Perhaps they tend to ensure they get the lion's share of any food they make, and grudgingly leave only the gristle and scraps for others?
Cucumber: Healing, Rejuvenation, and Self-Care.
Does your OC have any gift for healing? Was this always something they felt drawn towards? Or something that they adopted later in life? If they have no abilities in healing or medicine then is this something they regret? Or do they see healing as the province of weaklings and those who lack the gumption for combat?
Does your OC give much thought to looking after their own health? Are they careless with their own well-being? Do those around them encourage them to take better care of themselves? Or are they actually in need of others to push them into taking a few more risks - be they physical or emotional?
What makes your OC feel rejuvenated after a particulary difficult or exhausting time? A hot bath? A cold drink? A bout of particularly vigorous lovemaking? Or just a nice long sleep?
Does your OC take enough rest generally? Or do they push themselves hard despite being in need of time to recuperate? Do others notice this? Does anyone pass comment?
Does your OC feel energised by spending time with others? Do they struggle when alone for extended periods? Or do they find themselves depleted by too much social interaction and often find themselves in need of some time by themselves?
Onion: Hidden Truths, Repressed Emotions, and Deep Secrets.
What has been the greatest revelation that your OC has experienced? To what degree did this new knowledge upend their previous understanding of the world and their place within it?
Has your OC any secrets which they keep from others? Are these kept only from those outside their inner circle? Or are there some secrets to which none but they are privy?
Does your OC have some feelings that they push down deep within themselves? Perhaps feelings of resentment? Or pangs of grief? Or burning sexual desires? Or do their emotions constantly come bubbling to the surface regardless of any efforts they might make to suppress them?
Is your OC talented at extracting secrets from others? Do they do so through charm and persuasion? Or through intimidation and force? Do what end do they seek this hidden knowledge? Purely for personal gain? To better understand the world? Or out of sheer nosiness?
What is something that your OC generally keeps from others - even those to whom they are close? Is this due to shame? Embarrassment? Fear of rejection? Or something nastier and darker by far?
Lettuce: Emotional Balance and Inner Peace.
Is your OC generally even-tempered? Or are they quick to anger or easily brought to tears? Do others feel they need to "walk on eggshells" around them for fear they might fly into a great rage or collapse into a blubbering heap? If so, then are they themselves aware of this?
Does your OC evince a great calm and focus during times of crisis or disaster? Can they keep their head amidst the clamour and chaos of an emergency situation? Or are they easily thrown into a panicked state?
Has your OC ever got into a fit of laughter from which they struggled to recover? What was it that they found so funny? Is it a memory on which they look back fondly?
Does your OC ever deliberately wind themselves up by focussing on bad memories or bitter resentments? Do they do so in order to harness their anger that they might overcome a challenge? Or perhaps to aid them in combat? Or would such things only serve as a distraction from their work?
Does your OC practice any meditation techniques or cultural rituals designed to centre them and bring them calm? If so then where did they learn these approaches? If they do not practice such things then would they benefit from doing so?

Scents of Samhain OC Ask List.
Celebrated from October 31st to November 1st, Samhain heralds the end of the harvest season and the onset of winter, or what the Celts considered the “darker half” of the year. As one of the major Celtic fire festivals, Samhain holds a place of significant importance, marking a period when the veil between worlds is thin and spirits are more likely to make an appearance.
Patchouli: Grounding, protection, and spiritual growth.
What does your OC use to anchor themselves emotionally during times of stress, or when they are feeling afraid? Do they think of a specific person? Focus upon their religious faith? Reflect upon a firmly held belief? Or something else?
Does your OC have any particular rituals or actions they perform for good luck, perhaps before embarking upon a risky venture or new activity?
How in touch is your OC with the spiritual beliefs and traditions of their culture of origin? Have they ever moved away from these? Perhaps only to return to them later?
How protective is your OC of those about whom they care? Does this ever come across as controlling or stifling? Or do they provide a quietly reassuring presence?
Are there specific times or places where your OC feels particular in touch with things beyond the everyday - whether the divine, the occult or the world of the dead.
Cinnamon: Warmth, prosperity, and vitality.
Does your OC enjoy feeling cosy? Perhaps being snuggled in blankets or wrapped in furs? If so, then is this something that they get to enjoy very often? And is it something about which they are quite private?
Is your OC someone who tends to store resources to get through the winter (or times of hardship in general)? Or are they more inclined to assume that things will work themselves out somehow - or even rely upon the generosity of others?
Does your OC feel more energetic or motivated during warmer seasons or when in hotter climates? Conversely, do they feel inclined to "hibernate" during colder weather?
Is your OC someone who enjoys feasting and carousing? If so then are they likely to be hosting such an event? Or more likely to be attending as a guest? If they don't enjoy such things, then what is the reason for their aversion?
Is your OC generally quite healthy? Or do they often come down with colds and minor ailments? Are they perhaps even a bit of a hypochondriac?
Nutmeg: Clarity, spiritual fortitude, and insight.
Would those who know your OC describe them as being rational and clear-thinking? Or are their thoughts often muddied by conflicting emotions? Or are they easily distracted by irrelevant details?
Does your OC find it easy to explain their views and opinions? Or do they find themselves grasping for the right words? Or perhaps stumbling over how to phrase something?
Is your OC easily able to empathise with others? Can they put themselves in someone else's shoes? Or are the motives and actions of others frequently a mystery to them?
Does your OC have the courage of their convictions? Or are they often beset by self-doubt or paralysed by indecision?
Was there a specific event or conversation which opened your OC's eyes to a particular reality? Do they ever regret learning the truth and feel nostalgic for their former innocence?
Clove: Safety, cleansing, and amiability.
Is your OC someone who makes those around them feel safe? Or is there something about them which others can find rather unsettling? If so, then is this the case constantly, or only in certain circumstances?
Is your OC generally easy-going? Or are they sometimes fussy, irritable or curmudgeonly? What tends to put them into a bad mood? Are they good at concealing the fact? Do they even try?
How important is cleanliness to your OC? Are they keen to wash and bathe as often as possible? Or can they go for extended periods without being troubled by any social expectations around personal hygiene?
When away from the comfort and convenience of amenities such as baths and showers, how does your OC keep themselves clean and fresh? If they do at all?
What does safety mean to your OC? Is it emotional or financial security? Or protection from physical harm? Is safety something for which they aim - either for themselves or others?
Frankincense: Connection, introspection, and purification.
Is your OC prone to introspection? Or do they not often look within themselves? If so then is this purely by inclination, or do they fear what they might discover?
What makes your OC feel an instant sense of connection to another person? A shared sense of humour? A common cultural heritage? Enjoyment of the same activities?
Is your OC a model of purity and innocence? Or are they prone to bawdy humour, sexual innuendos and cynical retorts? Perhaps they give the appearance of purity, but underneath things are a great deal murkier?
Does your OC ever do things and then afterwards find it hard to explain why they acted the way that they did? Or are they always clear on why they spoke or behaved in a certain way, even if they choose not to admit it to others?
Is your OC someone who other people consider easy to get to know? Are they, in fact, quite wrong about this?
Myrrh: Meditation, spiritual awareness, and grief.
Does your OC believe that their ancestors or dead relatives watch over them? Does this bring them comfort? Or would they actually rather they didn't?
Is your OC able to sit in silence with their own thoughts? Are they able to clear their mind and meditate? Or would they quickly become fidgety or bored?
Is there a particular date or season when your OC is more likely to reflect upon grief and loss? If they are grieving for a specific person then do they find times such as anniversaries or namedays particularly difficult?
To what degree is your OC mindful of the religious and spiritual beliefs of others? Even if they do not share them?
Is your OC sensitive to locations where great loss or suffering took place? Do they believe they can sense the echoes of past events? Or are they oblivious? How do they respond emotionally to being in such places?
