Gaz Ramblings Continued.
Kyle had dreaded his trip to the city, not for the city itself but for what it meant for him. He had been traveling the countryside as one of his orders' envoys for 3 months and their largest border city would be his last stop before he was expected to travel home. His journey had been the most liberating experience of his life and the thought of returning home weighted heavier on him than his Oath. He enjoyed what he did truely, helping others with their problems had always been fulfilling to him, if he could stay out on the road forever he would. If he was anyone else he probably could, but his father was waiting and he had made it known he would not wait for his son any longer. So Kyle walked, trusted horse beside him, to the city with their heads held low.
Kyle didn't pray for a reason not to go home, the gods needn’t be bothered with his pitiful wishes to avoid home but he did hope. Had he known that hoping would result in this, he wouldn't have even thought about it. Kyle had lost sight of his horse almost as soon as the assault started, leaving Kyle stranded in the city streets as hell rained down around him. He was quick to raise his shield up against the onslaught, pulling a child lost in the fray with him for protection. When this was over Kyle was sure that the screams of the civilians around him would haunt him for days to come.
The marauders were almost easier to deal with than the spells that quacked the city if only because Kyle could see where they were coming from. Tucking the small child he’d been protecting into a hidden cove, Kyle turned to face the destruction waiting for him, morningstar and shield gripped tightly. The first few attackers he bulldozed his way through were unprepared for him to fight back but his progress drew more and more attention. When they blinked out of existence for the first time Kyle had foolishly believed it was over, the cacophony of spells that hit the following moment, crushed those hopes and the building next to him.
Narrowly avoiding the falling debris Kyle rushed back through the streets hoping the small child had stayed hidden and unharmed. He skidded around the last corner, just as more raiders fizzed into the city streets. There was now a small army between him and the cove he had tucked her into, as the sweat dripped from his brow, Kyle realized he probably wouldn’t be making it out of here. The arrow that whizzed past his ear snapped Kyle out of his dread.
“Focus Soldier! Shield up!” Kyle clung to that order, centering his mind back on the task at hand. Raising his shield, he charged through their opponents. He thanked whichever god was looking out for him as whoever was now covering his back never missed their shots. Even as they flickered back out, Kyle continued his charge forward checking the cove for the child, she jumped out of it into his arms, silent tears wetting her face. He cradled her back in his arms, turning to face his defender in time for a hand to clap him on the shoulder. Kyle’s eye widened noticing his King’s Guard armor, the Captain’s medalain securing his shoulder pauldron was even more of a shock.
“You’re with me now kid, and there's no time for dying” Kyle nodded a tired smirk tugged at his lips.
“Wasn’t on my to-do list, Sir” The gruff chuckle that followed was a balm to Kyle’s nerves, maybe they would make it out of this.
Dnd x CoD Gaz
I have no strong feelings on what fantasy race Gaz would be, but I do believe that given all of his experiences in the game that he is a Paladin. Sticking to regiments and rules for the greater good but struggling with the realization that sometimes rules need to be bent and broken to get the job done. I imagine he’s been training to follow in his fathers footsteps for as long as he could remember. His family has served as knights to the crown for ages. A pact made between ancestors that has yet to be unfruitful for their people. His father was a well-respected man within their order, and the expectation to be a carbon copy of him weighs heavy on Gaz. Feeling like he is suffocating within his studies and training at home, he asks to be sent out, wishing to help with some of the kingdom’s troubles. It’d be good to strengthen relations with the outer villages and towns further from the capital, and Kyle got the much needed opportunity to breath stretch his legs. He’s not expecting anything more major than helping locals with petty thieves or acting as an impartial judge for disputes, and for a while, he was correct. After finishing with a smaller town, Gaz plans to head to the largest settlement on the border and meet up with some of their order for a check-in. He'd been out of his fathers reach for 3 months now, and Kyle wanted nothing more than to stay out on the road. His trip into the city is interrupted by attacks from their neighboring kingdom. There’s no better excuse to avoid his father than a war. ((I’m rotating the 141 in my head and building them like a Dnd party at this point))

Soap Rambling Continued
The City was in shambles, foundations shook and crumbled at the onslaught of magic that hit the ground around them. Soap was crouched behind a chunk of stone that had once been the base of a statue, he was applying pressure to one of his men’s left side. Soap and his men hadn't even reached their check in point with the captain stationed here when the first wave started. Spell after spell had rocked the city, sending citizens screaming. The initial shock left the city's defenders open for physical marauders to run through the city, they seemed to blink in and out of range whenever another wave of spells sent the city shaking.
Through gritted teeth Soap ignored the blood oozing past his fingers to look up in time to catch the sight of a hooded figure in the alley across from him. Fuck, the last thing he needed was a fight right now. Hagmaier was just stabilizing under him when the hooded figure jumped out of the shadows. The clash of metal on metal shocks Soap’s eyes open, he hadn’t realized he closed them. Looking up Soap found the hooded figure standing, danger drawn and blocking a blade meant for his own back. Reflexively Soap heats their attackers blade making them drop it. His hooded savior wastes no time using the open to finish the blow.
“Good” Soap is shocked at how gruff his Savior’s voice is. “ you’re not totally useless” he had to move quickly to catch the discarded blade the figure kicked to him. “ keep the blade steady and you might survive this” Soap glares up at the figure gripping his sword, he didn’t have time to argue with his asshole right now but he certainly would when this was all over.
CoD x Dnd Soap brainworms
Soap being a rough and tumble street kid who gets in more trouble just for being a tiefling. He’s a human born teif, some grand-grand father having made a deal with a Cambion that was vying for power over an age ago. He’s different, but his parents still love him. Soap’s innate spell casting and curiosity have led him into trouble on plenty of occasions, the apex of which was nearly blowing up the forge in their city. The incident nearly got him kicked out of the city if it wasn’t for the owner setting up a deal with his family that worked out in everyone’s favor. Soap interned at the forge, due to his hellish nature, he could withstand the heat better. This also gave him the opportunity to tinker around with scraps. His tinkering and magic skills grew under the tutelage of the Forgemaster, and it wasn’t long before he was being scouted by the crown. He was offered a higher education and more training in exchange for working with the Crowns Artificers. He flies through his courses impressing his teachers easily and no one is surprised when he's offered a position, what does surprise people is when he declines the cushy city job and asks to be placed with an in field unit. Soap sites his want to help people directly and sitting in meetings here wouldn’t allow him to do so. It takes time for them to consider his request, Soaps prowess was sought after in the city, and many would have preferred to have him spearhead larger projects or oversee manufacturing of his designs. It’s only when trouble starts on the edge of the kingdom that they agree to have him assigned to a group in the area. He’s there when hell breaks loose. He loses more than half of his squad and probably would have lost his own life if it wasn’t for a masked stranger that swooped in at the last second.

Ghost Rambles Continued
Sleep was not kind to Ghost, it did not embrace him like it did others, it was not a gentle being waiting for him at the end of a hard day. No it evaded him on a good day and tortured him on others. Any night that Ghost drifted into the realm of sleep found him haunted by memories, every instance that led him to his current fate lined up to remind him of what he was, a dead man. Even still the onslaught of beatings and torture that he relived on nights he resigned himself to rest were worth it. All the pain in the world would be worth it to hear the gentle call for “Simon” that pulled him from his nightmares. When Ghost had woken up in his grave it had been the first thing he could remember, the name Simon. The voice had been different then, desperate and scared compared to the gentle call that it was now.
He had originally believed that he had been the one calling for a “Simon” and that his waking memory had been his last moments of life, searching for a lost friend or lover. As time passed the voice calmed down Ghost had realized that it was calling out to him, like it was welcoming him home. The warmth that came from knowing someone had once cared enough to welcome him with open arms was worth the pain he had to slog through to get to it. Yet the voice was different again this morning. The call for “Simon” was desperate, like it was calling and pleading with him for help. The only warmth he had was ripped away, leaving him cold and numb as he was pulled from restless sleep.
Ghost knew this day was going to be shit well before the attacks started. He’d been on the outskirts of the city when they started and he had originally planned to leave. Whatever this was, it was not his responsibility and it would be a good excuse to lose the Bug that had been persistently following him since he crawled out of that hole in the ground. That had been his plan, but then that dumb tiefling had to go and get himself in way over his head, at least he was better at fighting than the guard that had been defending him before Ghost got there. Did no one train the guards men to hold a proper line anymore? How did Ghost know how to hold down a line? Those were questions he would deal with when fire balls weren’t being thrown at them.
CoD X Dnd Brainworms
Been thinking about CoD within the lens of DnD and how well Ghost would fit as a “Reborn” if you go with a narrative that he really did die in that coffin. Reborn aren’t a race but a “lineage”, meaning that thematically you could be any race before you were changed or inflicted by something. I like the thought that Simon was just a Human within a town's militia or perhaps a crown’s guard sent to investigate something way out of his league. Reborn are disconnected from their first life through death and are left with faded memories of your previous experiences. Narratively it would be angsty to have Ghost’s most clear memories be of his traumatic childhood, torture and subsequent death, leaving him clinging to the faint happy memories. Memories where he can almost make out his mothers smile or hears Tommy’s laugh echoing in his head unable to remember what was so funny. Due to his foggy memory Ghost has never gone looking for his family, unsure of where they lived or if he was even on good terms with them when he died. Meanwhile his mother has never stopped waiting for Simon to come home after he ran away to join the guard. ((maybe I’ll write something for this after I’ve pondered the rest of the 141))

CoD X DnD Shepherd
I’m taking a slightly different approach to Shepherd than the others I've rambled about. I have mostly been writing all of the CoD characters like Playable Characters but I think Shepherd is a Hag. Typically Hag’s are presented as women but I don't see why they can't be men given they are simply evil and ugly magical entities with nefarious and self centered goals. (I feel this way about Dryads and Nymphs being portrayed as only women.) Equal opportunity Hags aside I think Shepherd’s conniving and self centered actions would fit perfectly with Hag hiding in plain sight within a bureaucratic position where he can vie for power and control of a large territory or kingdom while orchestrating despair and misery for other kingdoms. Annis Hags are known for their brutish nature but are also known to “adopt” a hoard of underlings. While this hoard tends to be full of monstrosities and other horrors a Hag with their sites on grander goals would need more competent underlings, and a Kingdom’s army rarely questions their orders if they believe their goal is just.
Shepherd had clawed his way to the top, working under the king diligently and “loyally” to get himself positioned as his right hand. Shepherd kept his appearance unassuming, an elderly Arakocra with Eagle-like features softened with age and wisdom, reminiscent of their kingdom’s own gleaming emblem. Outwardly he looked like the perfect adviser, and what remained under was no one's concern. Anyone who questioned his plans or directives were dealt with swiftly from the shadows before their concerns could draw attention to what was really going on and it had worked. Shepherd had sunk his teeth into the workings of their military and nobility, forging unknowing deals and buried them deep for when the time was right. All was working well until the Bard, with her knowing eyes, was brought in to fill the recently vacated seat at their King’s left hand.
Shepherd had planned for months to discreetly pull the threads loose on the previous Left Hand having hand picked a replacement for him, just to have his pick usurped by what Shepherd had assumed at the time to be a glorified story teller. Katelyn’s expert abilities and reliable spy network do soften the blow to Shepherd’s ego, both being more useful to him then the original puppet he had been recommending for the position. It did also mean that Shepherd had to keep his operations more concealed, any little thing that could make her suspicious could spell disaster to his decade long plan. All he had to do was play nice, and make sure Graves learned to keep his mouth shut.
(I will probably be compiling these all into a Ao3 fic because hopefully this will evolve into a fic sooner or later :) )

COD X DnD Farah and Hadir
I tend to treat Aasimar and Tiefling as the opposite sides of the same coin when I think about them. One born with the intent to gain power and the other with the intent to share it. Tieflings are generally the result of pacts or deals with Devils and dont always affect the person making the deal immediately or even directly. Promising your future great grandchild that you’ll be dead before meeting is an easy sell for unimaginable magical powers or influence. In my mind, Aasimar are the opposite of that, Celestials reaching out to people in their times of need with the promise that they will go on to help others. This neither condemns or exalts either group, both have agency over their actions and are not bound to anyone else's rule. Tiefling’s simply suffer the indirect consequences of someone else's actions while Aasimar are directly gifted as a result of their own suffering. Lineages can form much easier for Tieflings than Aasimar due to this. The duality of direct and indirect action aside, I think Farah and Hadir would have been given the blessing of Aasimar-hood as a result of their suffering and their drive to protect their people.
Maybe a young Price witnessed the birth of two younger Aasimar during a raid on a cultists compound, watched their determination and will power alone clear through the swarming dark robes that had threatened to overtake him and his men moments prior. He would learn their names were more than just Commander or Agent Karim, but Farah and Hadir. 2 young kids that had only each other and dream to keep their home safe. Price would leave what supplies he could for them and hope that the siblings' blessing and determination would be enough to keep them alive. It’s easy to forget that blessings are not infallible, and we are all just mortal regardless of how much the gods may favor you.
Farah had always had a stronger sense of agency than Hadir, she was their Commander for a reason. She led their group of fighters through thick and thin, with every loss she kept them optimistic for tomorrow, and with each win, she kept them mindful of the work yet to come. Yet despite all this, Hadir felt like they weren’t doing enough. They’re people still suffered, and no amount of progress lifted their worry about where their next meal would come from or if they’re young would ever get to grow old. Hadir’s need for action had always burned hotter than Farah’s, it had led him into trouble before, and it's what leads him into making a deal. A deal that took that burning light and turned it freezing dark. (I really liked Hadir’s character/concept and CoD/Activision’s choice to kill him before exploring what a person does when being pushed to the edge was cowardly.)

I've been going back and forth on what to make Roach in this DnD Au/setting I've been working on. I feel like the 3 listed above have some sort of motif that fits Roach in some way or another, but I can't decide. I've listed some summaries below:
•Tabaxi- cat person, good mobility=hard to kill, 9 lives motif
•Kenku- small bird person, no "voice" of their own, mimicry
• Thri-keen- bug person, telepathic speech, antenna, mandibles and extra arms
Any questions comments or concerns, please don't hesitate to comment or dm me :) I'll be posting about Farah and Hadir soon.

CoD X DnD Alex
Changeling origin’s vary from game to game but there is always the eir of mistrust surrounding them/their true nature. Whether it is a lineage or a recessive trait or curse, I think the effects of losing your true self in the mix is under utilized the same way that I feel that it is with Alex. Alex has been anything and anyone asked of him for years but when has he been afforded the liberty to be himself? When he defects for Farah, he allows himself his first taste of what he really believes in. Following orders and fitting a mold is easy when you can separate your idea of self from your actions, but what happens when you have been doing that for so long that you can’t find yourself under it all. I’ve even seen some theories that Alex isn’t his real name, just the alias he is the most comfortable in.
So what if it is, what if when a young boy was running from the Crown’s guards for stealing he shifted, using the bustling crowd to hide the way his skin flickered as it changed from pale to sunkissed, auburn curls shrinking to a golden crop. He was well practiced, and the busy market patrons never seemed to notice... the average market patron didn't have access to true sight. The arm that caught him by the back of his hood had shocked him enough that he didn’t fight it as it pulled him into the alley way. Staring up at the blond elven woman that now blocked his path to freedom he knew he was fucked, he eye glowed with a magic that he knew deep down meant she didn’t just see him, she knew what he was. “ It’s not often that I see someone with your kind of gift, young one. What is your name?” His silence didn’t seem to surprise her. “ My name is Katelyn, but you can call me Kate... if you don't want me to know your name that’s all right. Can I call you Alex?” Given she hadn’t pulled a blade on him for stealing yet, she could call him whatever. “ How would you like to never need to steal for dinner again, Alex?”

COD X DnD Kate Laswell
How could Kate Laswell be anything other than a spymaster in a DnD setting. Making her an Elf feels almost too easy but Kate carries herself with a nobility and grace that is so over-associated with elves that I honestly can not for the life of me think of anything else. Any form of Aarakorcra or bird folk is tempting but I feel like there is also merit in Kate being an Elf to make her more unassuming and easier to look over in a crowd. In media Spymasters tend to be rogues but I feel like Kate would be a magical class with abilities like Scrying, Truesight or even Foresight. Rules as written in dnd only 3 classes get all three of those abilities, one of which is bard. A bard's ability to distract, redirect and empower those around them easily fit into the role that Kate fills for supporting the team. Combined with a spy network of information and capable agents, Kate is easily able to aid those on her side or cripple those opposing their goals.
Kate rarely needs to leave the city these days. Between her abilities and her agents, she has eyes and ears everywhere, even beyond their borders. It’s how she finds out that the Cultist on the border are up to no good again, Kate doesn’t have to think twice before sending Alex out to warn and aid Farah in dismantling their current attempts at Gods know what. Farah has always been more than capable, and Kate hopes that sending one of her best men will bolster Farah’s forces enough to garner them some peace. She wished she could provide more, but Kate was unable to expend more resources without drawing attention from neighboring powers. Any direct aid she sent had to be in secret and off the books, the perfect job for Alex. It’s when she reaches out to update Price that she learns about the attacks at their largest border city, a city she monitored thoroughly, and an attack she should have seen coming. Something was wrong, very wrong. They knew she was watching and found an impossible blind spot.
