Trying my hand at drafting a bodice block, after an abysmal week of trying to figure out inconsistent measurements of an Etsy dress pattern.
S/o to Kim Dave’s super helpful step-by-step video.

9-16-22 | I DO NOT SHARE TYPESETS ANYMORE
Please refer to fanficbookbinding.com or Twitter @omgreylo for up-to-date information.
As of June 2022, I do not engage with Harry Potter fanfiction--typesets or bound books, unless gifting to an author I like.
Please read the About page and the perks listed on my Patreon prior to subscribing, because it is always current. Fanfiction typesets have not been shared since early 2022.

Hello!! I’m very sorry to bother you, but I’ve just started bookbinding and I was wondering if you could point me in the direction of typesetting tips and tricks? Also, I was wondering how you typeset a fanfiction if you download the pdf of it?
I’m super sorry if this is something you’ve posted already and I just haven’t seen it!!
I post all my tutorials on Patreon :) My books are typeset on MS Word or Affinity Publisher, then I save them as PDFs to print. I don't download PDFs from AO3 or other fic sites because they're not formatted the way I like.

Hey, I have a kind of dumb question but what are the silver things on the corners of your books called? Like the thing that protects the corner? Also love your work BTW! It's so interesting to see your whole bookbinding process.
They are 'metal corner protectors' :)

Hi! Hopefully no one else has asked you this question but I was wondering if you could give me some insight on how acrobat pro helps you with formatting the pdf’s for the books. When I started book binding I would just download the pdf off AO3 and print it as it is, and then cut and file the paper so the margin’s don’t look so big. But I’ve really fallen in love with book binding and I want to bind a fanfic for my friend, so I’m considering buying adobe acrobat pro to make the text size bigger and margin size smaller. Is this something you can do? I haven’t been able to find a straight answer online. But I was also wondering what you use acrobat pro for when your book binding. Thank you so much! 💗
Hello! So I typeset everything in Microsoft Word 95% of the time (or Affinity Publisher if I'm on my Mac), then save the final PDF and just use Acrobat to print. I don't do edits on Acrobat at all.

Hi i would just like to say how am and gorgeous your work is!
was also wondering what was your most expensive commission (like a rough estimate) because all of your bindings look so professional and beautiful
Thank you! I've definitely charged $200+ for one volume, but it's an original work with custom covers and blank sketching page inserts.

Hey read that you have a PDF of Manacled, wanted to ask how to get that?
I no longer share any of my files due to numerous instances of them being stolen, uploaded to commercial printing sites, used to do for-profit commissions, and edited without my consent.

Hey there! I’m dying for a book binding of Manacled, yours is so beautiful. I don’t know how all of this works but I would love to purchase. Help!
I am no longer binding Manacled, as well as The Auction and BM/BS, so I can focus on other projects and fics that haven't been bound yet. I'm also trying not to get burnt out binding the same stuff. 😓

omg can u pls make 2 of the breath mints/battle scars hardcover or paperback books. I love the book so much and I really want to have a hard copy for me and my friend. ofc i’m willing to pay. please let me know :)
I recently set a limit on 8 copies of BM/BS only, and I hit it a few months ago. But I did recently make an exception and bound a 9th (and absolute final) copy for a friend's birthday. I am no longer making BM/BS indefinitely so I can focus on other projects and fics that have not yet been bound.

hi sorry if you get this a lot, but how do you make your covers? they're so prettyyy
(also do you have an faq section that i'm just missing like a fool?)
I have a tutorial on my Patreon on how I make my custom covers. Also working on a tutorial for leather covers. My website has a FAQ section for general bookbinding/typesetting inquiries (https://www.fanficbookbinding.com/faq) but for in depth stuff, all that stays in Patreon.

Hello I’m sorry to bother u! Ik this is a dumb question but I was just scrolling through ur website and was trying to find a copy of We could plant a house we could build a tree but didn’t see any. Did all the books get sold out?
The books I make are either my personal copies, gifted to authors, or commissioned by readers or authors. I don't make any to sell, like a bookstore. 😬

Stop taking my typeset PDF for Manacled and paying another binder to bookbind it for you
It is unethical. I have stated this in all my platforms that the PDF that I offered for free is for personal use only, not for you to download and send to a printing company for them to profit off illegally, or to another binder to bind.

The Fool, the Emperor, and the Hanged Man by ianthewaiting
Ten years after the fall of the Dark Lord, Hermione Granger leads of life of self-imposed obscurity, that is, until the day Headmistress Minerva McGonagall is murdered and a certain 'hero' is responsible.
226,700 words
598 pages
rounded and backed spine
When I typeset and printed this, the original plan was to do three volumes. However, when I saw how thin the Fool and the Hanged Man volumes were, I decided to bind them as one single volume. Like an omnibus. Ish. Kinda. You get it.
It’s amazing how the split, determined by an even division of the total chapters, actually stop and start at the most appropriate times so the Rider-Waite tarot illustrations signifying the start of a “volume” makes so much sense. ianthewaiting is a genius.
I’ll post better pics tomorrow--I just really wanted to show this off tonight!

Like Young Gods by diasterisms
I had big plans for my 200th book—a fully leatherbound Sword of the Jedi, to nicely round out my 1st vs 100th vs 200th progress. However, time got away from me and suddenly it’s May the 4th and I just absolutely needed to complete 200 on this day.
So here it is, joining 198, before they will be mailed out to the commissioner.

The Library of Alexandria by SenLinYu
The Library of Alexandria is not for just any witch or wizard. Many bookworms may try but few are permitted to pass through its doors. The books residing there are ancient and powerful and, if one happens to make a mistake, the consequences can be rather—novel.

Can you believe I’ve only ever made 3 copies of Manacled? One as a single-volume, gifted to SenLinYu, and two 3-volume sets for myself and one commissioner. My typeset PDFs are out there, and so many binders have used it for themselves, but the ones that are made by me personally are so rare and I think there’s something extra magical about that.
