Craft Nook: From Cramped to Organized
My craft nook
Crafting is in my blood. Since I was little I have been coloring, painting, sewing, knitting and what not.
While raising children it was not always easy to continue to do my crafts, but somehow I have always been able to find time for sewing and knitting during those years.
Now my little ones have grown up, and start to have little ones of their own.

Finding room
This window dormer is a space that does not really have a set function, so I decided to claim it and turn it into a craft nook. As you can see vintage crates were used to store all my craft supplies.

The crates added a nice vintage feel to the place, and I had most of my craft supplies close at hand.

Here are a few of my projects, some finished, some in progress. The bakery and coffee stencils are from “Funky Junk Interiors“, just follow the link to order.

Then my co-worker needed to get rid of her antique closet. Originally it came from The Netherlands, so I knew it was meant to come to my house. It makes for a perfect addition in my craft nook.

Many new cleaning products are getting more and more toxic. The ingredients which they contain can often cause health issues. Add about ten drops of lavender essential oil in a spray bottle, filled with half a cup of white vinegar and one cup of water. Before spraying the solution on any surface, make sure to shake well, so that the ingredients can mix well. With the help of this cleaners you can disinfect properly any part of your home.

Lavender oil is very efficient as an deodorizer and it can also disinfect any area and kill many germs. As you know your carpet is an area where a lot of bacteria and odor is combined. Give your rug or carpet a fresh smell and tackle bacteria at the same time! Mix about ten drops of lavender essential oil with half a cup of baking soda. Sprinkle the soda over the carpet or rug and wait for a few minutes. After some time has passed vacuum your floor and your rug or carpet will be deodorized and well-disinfected.
Lavender moth repellent
Moths can easily ruin your clothes and they are usually pretty stubborn pests. If you want to protect your clothing items and give them a nice scent, use lavender oil to get rid of those annoying insects. Grab a cotton ball and pour a few drops of the oil on it. Place the cotton ball anywhere where you want to prevent any moths. Lavender is great insect repellent and it can keep away even ants and cockroaches. When using lavender oil, you can be sure that your home will be protected from any insect infestation and it will be scented with the wonderful smell of the lavender.
Scent your laundry
Why waste money for laundry detergents and fabric softeners with harsh synthetic fragrances. Next time when you iron your clothes just add a few drops of lavender oil in your iron’s steamer. You can also put a few drops of the oil in your washing machine and this way your laundry will be scented with a natural lavender fragrance.
I recommend you to try the lavender oil for any chore in your home and you will fall in love with all its wonderful qualities. My Daughters Halloween Boots
What I made with an old pair of boots
Inspiration struck when I was about to throw away my daughters old boots. Halloween is just around the corner, the leaves are turning color and many of them are falling. Here, it has been very dry, until about 10 days ago, it started raining then, and in this short time we have had more than enough wet stuff.
However, the drought has turned the leaves crisp and many of them are falling already as you can see on the picture below.
A pair of boots and some wood
Two pieces of 2×4’s were nailed into a piece of 2×10 to form the base of this project.

Then it was painted Pumpkin orange and black to the sides.
Sewing the ruffle
Next the ruffle was made: purple with orange lace.
Taking shape
Left over trimming from a couple of Mason jars made for a nice touch along the top of the boots with the green and pearls adding some class.
With hot glue everything was tacked in place. Some scattered leaves from the Dollar store added just the right interest, as well the addition of a few bigger once on the side of the one boot.

Monthly Face for August
Again I was wanting to try something different. Thinking about this months face, I decided to start with some bold color blocks. I used acrylic paint in a watercolor type wash. The colors made the face pop out and the colors really complemented each other.
Getting a simple transfer ready.
You are able to see the simple pencil drawing underneath. A pin from Pinterest was used as the base, then a simple black and white picture was printed off, the lines were traced with a soft pencil, then rubbed on the mixed media paper. In a future post I will go into more detail about this.

Adding texture
Texture was added by using different stencils, and stamps in the same colors that were used for the color blocks. The only difference was that the paint was not deluded as much as it was for the color blocks, then the face it self was then painted as well, just using minimal details.

For a couple of weeks this is were is just sat and I was not sure how to procede. Then finally I stared playing around with this face again. And eventually it just flowed and came together.
During some sewing projects, I found these pieces of rickrack and they provided the perfect texture for the hair, and this was just simply glued onto the paper.

It still felt like something was missing, and then I found some cheese cloth. This proved to be the perfect addition to the final face, and again then it was glued into place.

I love how it adds some mysterious feeling to the whole picture!

Monthly faces July
July has slipped away and this months face has been a challenge.
I started with a background from a scrapbook page covered with hand lettering.
Then I added pictures as a collage and jazzed it up with stamps. And there it sat for a few weeks. I could not bring myself to finish it, inspiration: all gone!
Finally I added some acrylic paint for the hair, eyes and mouth.

Again not one of my favorite creations, but that is how life is, not perfect.

Creating your dream living room
Where do you start when you are looking for ideas for updating your living room? There is so much information available to us that it can be hard to know to choose.
Determining what your style is can be one way of finding the things you want to incorporate into your living space. Another deciding factor could be what your budget allows you to pay for certain items. A great tool I recently discovered are creating mood boards on line.
Creating a mood board
For years I have collected pictures and other items that struck my interest and filed them away in a box. Sometimes I sort through these for inspiration. I also have made collages with pictures of subjects I like. At some point I will share some of these in another post. They are lots of fun to do, but time consuming.
A mood board is a great tool to safe pictures of things that interest you. One tool you want to try is Canva, they have many free templates for mood boards you can edit the way you like.

Above is an example of a mood board template I used and changed up the pictures and adjusted the colors. It is fun and so easy to do!
Besides pictures you can use any kind of material for inspiration, some ideas to get you started:

Inspiration from nature: Leaves, flowers, twigs, stones etc.
How to make a mood board in Canva.
First create an account with Canva, it is free! Then find the tab: “Explore templates” and click on it.

Find a template you like and that will hold the pictures you want to save on it.

Click anywhere on the template and you will be able to change your pictures, edit the text and change the colors.

Is your closet also a big mess every other day? Is it always full and empty at the same time? If you have troubles with finding your favorite T-shirt in the sea of various clothing items, you have a problem. Here are 5 easy hacks on how to arrange your wardrobe and to turn it into a heaven for your shoes and for your clothes.
1. Take everything out!
If you have finally decided to face the wardrobe issue, you should do it right. Take everything out and sort out the clothes you no longer wear. It might look like a scary thing to do, because you know exactly what is hiding deep inside this closet of yours. Long forgotten pairs of jeans that might fit you again some day. But they do not belong there. Get rid of all the clutter and free up some space for new ones.
2. Categorize
It is best if you have a system of categorization. Here all types of boxes and drawers come in handy. Separating the socks from the underwear is always a good idea. Try to sort out the seasonal clothes and put them at the upper shelves until their time comes again. Same goes for shoes, boots can have their summer vacation under the bed for example. You can use vacuum seal storage bags to put inside jackets and sweaters. The closet will be more spacious and easier to clean when there are less things on the way. You can then arrange everything by color in order to make it easier to find the one you want easily in the morning rush.
3. Use hangers
By using a separate hanger for each piece of clothing, you will avoid the mess that one makes by pulling out something from the bottom of a certain pile. It is incredibly annoying. As I already mentioned, with hangers you will no longer have that problem. Everything will know its place and it will be easier for you when you put clothes back in the closet after they have been washed. Just look for the empty hangers and you will save yourself all the folding.
But remember, there are certain pieces of clothing, like cardigans for example, that might stretch if put in a hanger. So it would be best if you make an exception and fold them in a neat stack. If you are not sure, you can always ask experts like cleaning professionals vauxhall.

4. Make regular checks
By making regular checks, you escape from the big mess. You don’t need to take everything out again, but simply to make sure that everything is where it is supposed to be. Sometimes, when in hurry you do not really pay attention to these things. All you need is 15 minutes dedicated to your wardrobe once in a while. You can also clean the dust out of the shelves in case your closet is open. Your clothes will be well protected and will remain clean.
5. Organize your shoes
If your shoes are uncontrollably spread on the closet floor, you need to fix that. You can do it by hanging them on a wall stack and also separate them by type and color. It is also a good idea to keep them in the box you bought them in in case you have enough space for that. Do not hesitate to also take all the shoes out from the closet in put them in another cabinet in the hallway or under the stairs. By doing this, you will have more space for new favorite pieces of clothing.
It does not seem so hard, does it? Take your time and turn your closet into a masterpiece! These 5 hacks will make a difference in getting your closet organized and keeping it that way! Enjoy!

A Cricut Explore Air 2 machine,
Had been on my wanted list for a long time. I love making signs and do mixed media art projects. So a cutting machine like this would definitely help me accomplish a lot of different looks for my projects. Then, finally a few months ago, I ordered one.
Because of where I live, and access to craft stores like Micheal’s, is not that easy, I went with a package deal.
There happened to be a big promotion on and the package I ended up getting with the Cricut Explore Air 2 machine was only $10 more than the regular Explore Air, so it was a no-brainer to get the faster machine.

These were all in the bundle with the machine, minus the extra’s! Isn’t it great?!

Monthly faces June
This face reminds me of Tinkerbell, the little fairy in Peter Pan. The kids loved the story of Peter Pan, and who doesn’t fall in love with this sassy little fairy! Here is the basic drawing of the monthly face of June.

Again Gelatos from Faber-Castell ( this is not an affiliate link), were used because of their rich and vibrant colors, then water was added to move around the pigments and create interest.

I dabbled around with some stencils, but not to much.

From cutting out shapes with my Cricut Explore Air 2 machine, and because I hate throwing away anything that maybe useful, I had all kinds of left over scraps. They got used to give the illusion of a border and to dress up Tinkerbell’s top.

Tinkerbell must have blue eyes,I colored them in with coloring pencil. And this time I tried not to muck around to much, like I did in April’s face of the month.

And here are the final touches to the face. I think I got carried away with shading around the eyes again, but liked the softness of the Conte chalk.

In with the new, out with the old…
This was our dining room after the make over last year, in preparation of the wedding for the youngest son.
The chairs really made this dining room look so much more updated, and the chairs are so much more comfortable to sit on, and with 10 of them there is always lots of room for everyone to sit! The dresser is one from a bedroom set and served ok for a time, but did take up more room then I liked. I heard my friend was moving and had a china cabinet for sale.

Love at first sight.
Then a friend had a china cabinet she could not take to her new apartment. It was one that I had seen somewhere else, and just loved it! It had my name written all over it and I was so glad to be able to get it. With the help of the husband and the kids we moved it into the dining room, and the old dresser went to the bed room where it should have been all along.

My friend had stripped the paint and refinished it, isn’t it awesome? Love the color of the wood, and the top of the cabinet is metal, which really gives it a special look and feel. You can see the little drawers underneath, they are rounded and also have a metal, galvanized bottom. Not sure where they were used for, but I imagine flour and sugar.

And here is the inside! The blue back ground was perfect for some of my old dishes who had been sitting in boxes all this time. I cleaned them up and here they are, all prettily displayed.

Then there was this new/old phone on the side of the cupboard it works, but I don’t have a phone hookup close, so for now it is just adds to the decor.
Space for the kids
Potato bin
See that bin? I think it was used for potatoes, I fixed it so the bin would stay open, we don’t want little fingers getting hurt when they come and take out the Duplo blocks. That bag that is in the bin is filled with Duplo blocks, I made the bag from an old table cloth, it has a draw string in it so stuff doesn’t fall out so easy. The bin is a perfect place to store these blocks.

And here are the toys waiting for when the grand-babies come over. The blue tote is full with Lego blocks, kids young and old just can’t leave them be and we all end up playing along. It won’t be long for the two little ones to be able to play with the toys as well! Christmas this year won’t be the same!
