I am super excited to announce that I have been asked to choreograph for Altoona Community Theater’s “Romeo and Juliet” this winter! It will be such an honor to have see work on the stage of the beautiful Mishler, under this chandelier. | This will present a lot of big “firsts” for me. First time choreographing live theatre. First time working on this big of a cast (nearly thirty bodies). First time setting movement on all actors. First time being involved in any way with a Shakespearean production! First time feeling like I have been entrusted with a massive choreographic task that certainly exceeds my comfort level. As I begin material over the holiday, I humbly request prayers and positive vibes that I can find that sweet spot where the inspired vision of my director and my own movement overlap. In honor of my company’s first show being in two days, here’s a four year old pic from my college in NYC. | I have not been this nervous for a performance in a long time. Not even for the performing itself, but for the fact that my name is on it (with @lydtothejar ). We are so so so passionate about movement and making it a thing of interest. If you are into dance, come. If you are not into dance, come. You literally will lose nothing— it’s donation based— and you might be moved by one of our various, diverse choreographic works. Our whole goal in starting this company was to get more physicians, teachers, accountants, carpenters, mechanics, secretaries, chefs, adults, children, females AND males to experience dance in ways they never thought they would even want. It’s time to end this classist, elitist vibe about “seeing dance” and bring movement to EVERYBODY. Because it can touch everyone somehow. You just have to come join us and let us try. Okay I HAD to post this because I believe I have discovered the daddest thing perhaps in the universe. This is the fluorescent above my dad’s basement workbench. While switching laundry I happened to look up and see some writing in black Sharpie on the bulbs. Two of them say “new,” one says “ok,” and one just says “maybe.” And just when I finished belly laughing and assumed this couldn’t be any better, I turned the light on to discover the only bulb that works is the one that says “ok.” And if this isn’t the most Joel Kosmac thing you’ve ever seen, you can just get on out of town. #dad #daddestdad #dadlydads
