hiya!!! your art is really gorgeous and as another traditional artist I'm totally enamored with the way it looks. If you don't mind me asking what kind of paper do you usually use? I usually use water-based markers but the alcohol markers look sooo pretty in your art it's making me think about switching lol, but my sketchbook definitely can't take alcohol without bleeding through a few pages

Thanks! The paper i use rn is shitty and I hate it (70lb and sorta off white). The paper i liked was 64lb, medium texture drawing paper. But I rip pages out and use thick paper (like smooth cardstock) as a backstopper bc otherwise it'll probably go through at least 2 pages. Also, if you're thinking of using alcohol markers: buy the knock off ones. You can get like 200 for the price of like 20 copics lol and sometimes i like them more than copic markers. But maybe that's cope lol

Ad Astra per Aspera is an absolutely baffling episode of Star Trek Strange New Worlds. A rant. Spoilers below.

They never once mention the heart of the issue: if you invite genetically modified individuals into starfleet and they rise up through the ranks, does that not encourage individuals to modify themselves or their children in hopes of achieving success? That's the fucking problem. And they never have that conversation.

It's a court drama where the 1st officer is on trial for hiding the fact that she is genetically modified. Which is a big no no. Starfleet has a no genetic modification policy bc eugenics.

Her lawyer argues that keeping genetically modified individuals out of starfleet is xenophobic discrimination, she can't help what she is, genetic modification is part of her culture, she faced horrible discrimination growing up with the stigma of being a modified, and her joining starfleet was an effort to seek asylum. And judge please, just look at her: she's so good at her job, the best of the best. All you could hope for in an officer. Like that's not exactly the fucking problem.

Nor do they specify what sort of modification we're dealing with. Her ppl modify themselves physically to deal with the harsh conditions on their planet but do they modify other things? Do they mess with intelligence? Or physical triats? Do restrict what a person could be by choosing not to let specific "defects" exist? I dont know bc they dont actually lay out what we're dealing with.

If you aren't going to give me the details, I feel i have the right to assume the worst. Maybe those people were right to persecut her. Just because something is part of your culture doesn't inherently make it a thing you should continue to do. If slavery is part of your culture, does that make slavery okay?

Obviously, I dont agree with starfleets position outright. I dont think its a black/white issue. I think it's a complicated ethical dilemma, which makes it ideal for explore in a star trek episode. They just make their argument so badly that im arguing against them bc theres so much conversation missing. And in the end, with the argument they presented, I feel like she should have been dismissed in disgrace and made an example of.

Also, it's just very badly written. It's stupid that she's the one who turns herself in to "live her truth" apparently without considering that she could have gotten her commanding officer dismissed in disgrace alongside her for having known. It's stupid that she gets mad at her civil rights attorney for turning this into a case with broader implications and not focusing on saving her specially. And seeking asylum implies that you go to an organization seeking sanctuary, not that you have the right to embed yourself in an organization under false pretenses when you really weren't under any threat of death. It didn't seem like she would have been gang stalked across the galaxy if anyone knew what she was, so why did she need asylum?

This episode was just another example of what snw does so well: taking bits and pieces of outstanding star trek ideas/episodes (in this case, measure of a man and all the ds9 episodes abt genetic modification) and pulls them together with a mediocre script, expecting me to feel the same emotions and patting themselves on the back like they said something profound. It's a show with pretty aesthetics and nothing interesting to say.

I was absolutely losing my mind watching it.

Mostly bc its more fun that way. I feel like sasuke's hair earlier on in the anime and on the manga covers tends to have a blue hue, so in my head the uchiha have dark blue hair. But lighter blue is prettier. So im like meh I can use blue as a stand in for dark blue/black
