haven’t posted here in a hot minute but i (re)wrote some stuff for earth-557 and i seek validation. no this is not completed.

There was a rule everyone followed.

Do what it takes to survive. But never go against those above you in status.

Those above were crime lords and their compliant followers, who had done things from loot to kill just to get to where they were now. It was ingrained in children’s minds from the moment they could walk — don’t talk back, don’t steal, don’t harm a member from the notorious gangs if they can’t back it up with power of their own. Survival was key in their broken society, and breaking these rules ensured a target on your back, if you managed to escape immediate death. Very few managed to break away from these groups unscathed, and yet—

“He practically collapsed at my door.”

She had been called by Jianyu Xiong, a self-made wizard that had helped her on more than one occasion and insisted she was in debt to him, yet never bothered specifying what that meant. Calls this late were unusual, but what made it worse was the matter it pertained to. A renowned thief, and one of the few to know that Octavia Wu was alive, had shown himself at Jianyu’s door and promptly fainted.

“Is his heart rate steady?”

“Do I look like a doctor, Tavia?”

“Maybe if you picked up a stethoscope,” Jokes aside, Tavia walked past the man and to the couch so she could kneel by her friend, who almost looked peaceful enough for her to call them both out on a prank.

But the tears in his uniform that reached his skin and the tender, red blotch on his cheek told a different story. Her eyes scanned his figure, trying to make sense of what had happened. Lark, the man lying in front of her, had always been able to use his superspeed to escape even the deadliest of situations. A bullet might have grazed him once or twice, but it never ended like this. He looked like he’d gone through a shredder, and then been knocked in the head until he saw white. ‘What the hell did you get yourself into…’

SORRYYYY still thinking about the tavia and lark plotline i could totally do but like…

tavia recruiting him in the very beginning stages of the team

them growing close because they’ve worked together before the team was formed and after

going on missions and posing as a couple when necessary

tavia meeting lark’s daughter (i completely forgot what i named her n will either search for it or name her smth new)

tavia going to lark first when she gets the idea to bring together a team. lark agreeing because it’s impossible to argue with tavia’s visions. they’re just two people with hope for the future.

lark being there for every new recruitment. him helping with the trainings

tavia and lark eventually actually getting together. something about their shared positivity bringing light to each of their lives

they spend so much together. they’re still working with the team. tavia leading and lark being more on the sidelines, but he’s respected because he’s been there the longest (besides tavia)

something happening. a mission or something going wrong. lark realizing they are going much farther than he possibly could, especially with his daughter’s life on the line. him stepping away from the team. him stepping away from tavia, who isn’t the slightest bit upset because she knows how important this is to him.

tavia and lark still being friends. tavia visiting him at the labs. both of them knowing they can only be friends and finding it better that way anyways.

THIS IS KINDA PERFECT ACTUALLY… bc in my head i thought they could probably team up at some point esp if tavia’s still trying to build a team (atm she’s in that part of her life like RIGHT after faking her death n getting things sorted, there’s been barely a sliver of thought towards building the team) but i feel like lark could def be one of the firsts she recruits because they already have history of working together, but also having them team up would work SO well too bc now i can write lil undercover moments where they pose as a couple or smth

“eden you can’t just keep connecting your ocs-” tavia met lark through the anti-crime organization after getting affiliated with clarke (i amcrealizing the names rhyme n i find this sooo funny) and i don’t think they’re anything serious or ever get to that point but i think they get close enough that they can come off as flirty and have probably been mistaken for dating a couple times

anyways earth-557 my love <3

i'll be honest it feels a little weird talking about it after so long...

so. i think i want to keep a bit of the original idea -- you know, crime being rampant across the world, many people living within poverty unless they're willing to go the extra mile and commit various crimes that they probably wouldn't do unless they're really desperate.

not to say that law enforcement isn't a thing! it most definitely is, but it's highly corrupted (so really, nothing different from real life) and chances are if you can pay just the right amount, you're able to bribe your way out of seeing the walls of a cell. and if you're high enough on the crime hierarchy, you're never even going to know what the back of a cop car looks like or even worry about coming into contact with those guys.

i do want to keep an organization (separate from the government, because they're also corrupted. lol) that is working on stopping crime where they can. i might brainstorm the name + a suitable acronym when i get the time. but for the basics of it, it's a very underground organization, with most of the members being people without powers or special abilities. they're quite picky about who they let in, since they don't want anyone with ill intentions infiltrating their organization. clarke mannix, one of my ocs, is of course part of this organization but the only reason she's in it is because her parents were agents (thinking one died on a mission and the other retired), without it and if she didn't have any other connections into the facilities, she probably wouldn't be an agent now. this organization is set on controlling the increasing crime rates, by weeding out those within the higher parts of the hierarchy and taking them out one by one. thinking their original solution was to kill them off one by one... but over the years they've been adapting their strategy and restructuring old prisons (separate from the system) and even attempting reform strategies. they also perform raids from time to time. there's a lot of positions within this organization, from agents to doctors and therapists to leaders. it's a whole thing.

and then there's the crime organizations, that very much operate as a very complicated spider web. when you think there's several, there's actually one that divides into smaller groups and gives these smaller orgs power. they're all linked together, take one out and you're likely to find a link to another. these are the people who "run the world," taking what they want when they want it, regardless of who they hurt. they seek power and only power, and very rarely do they ever back down from a fight. i think a few of the smaller groups operate as gangs, with some having rivalries and alliances with others. octavia wu was part of one of the middle groups, so not too far down the hierarchy but high enough that if you wanted out, it was likely only through death. she operated as a hacker for this group and got them into any place they wanted to go -- until one mission that involved explosives and killing more than a dozen civilians. she's a prime example of what happens when leaving, because the ring can't just let anyone walk free. while they have the power, they are aware of the anti-crime organization growing, and do not want them alerted to their usual operating spots. this is why tavia goes on the run, how she loses her family and eventually has to fake her own death.

when tavia "dies," she enters the upper lower part of the hierarchy. she still has enough to survive, much more than others within society, so she could be in the middle class, if only for the fact that she isn't supposed to be alive at this time. i think people at this point still commit crimes, though not as badly as gangs and the entire web might. an example of this might be the newest addition to the 557 family, lark. he's generally a good person, and honestly i could even see him working as one of the lab people for the anti-crime organization, considering his original job as a dna analyst. anyways, lark might be affiliated with the good side, but he still uses his speed to infiltrate into the higher ups' spaces, to give back to the less fortunate. the worst he's done is breaking and entering with a lot of stealing involved, but what else is he going to do? he's got a kid to feed

anyways. this miiiiight flesh out the general idea for society within earth-557???? though i might be missing some stuff too. i'll write some stuff on my characters at some point (probs not tonight bc i'm hungry + need to shower) buuuut if anyone has any questions that'd be chill bc there are definitely things i haven't thought about that others might

thinking about henry after the argument with rosemary

thinking about how he’s closed off. like he’s normally reserved and a bit quiet unless it’s necessary (with the exception of a few people) but there’s a noticeable shift after

how that break is one of the rare times where he allows himself to look at other people. maybe he kisses them, invites them to his place. but it’s pointless, because henry’s always craved love, not touch. so he pushes them away, too, until there’s nothing left to do but miss rosemary’s presence in his apartment.

he doesn’t really talk to ozzie. and ozzie keeps his distance, aware of the damage he’s done (even if it was unintentional) and wanting henry to make the move first. when he looks at ozzie all he can picture is rosemary kissing him. and it doesn’t matter that she pulled away first, it doesn’t matter that they described it as being “wrong” he’s still reminded of what happened. he can’t approach the subject with elias, either, because bringing it up is like talking through dry mouth. he chokes on his words.

he’s not an angry man. but he gets snappier the longer they spend apart. he’s not only angry at rosemary, but he’s angry at himself for barely being able to think of the incident without wishing it happened to someone else. without wishing it was all a dream. his blocks become more frantic. his mind is on autopilot throughout the games. surely it frustrates more members of the kelpies, but it frustrates ozzie, who knows he’s partially to blame and therefore cannot act on the frustration

he refuses to acknowledge this period of time.

thinking.. about henry….

his life revolving around amelia. him not just being hurt but being angry when people say “but you’re not her dad. you’re just an uncle.” because what difference does it make? she’s still important to him. he’s still going to show her affection because her actual dad isn’t in the picture and he can see how much it hurts not only amelia but his sister as well.

him loving quite strongly and yet unless it’s to amelia and his sister he struggles with showing it. i think over time he’s gotten to being more physically affection with elias, in the way of putting his arm around his shoulders and leaning on the other guy after practice. but he can’t say what he feels. he can offer jokes and hope that conveys what he wants it to, but set him in a serious situation and he’ll choke on his words.

he struggles with his self image. as a kid he was often told off for being too distracted by wildlife, his father disapproving of the obsession he has. it was always something about him not being tough enough. that there were bigger things to chase than beetles and foxes. it was sport after sport put into henry’s hand before he could even walk and when hope was almost lost it was hockey that stuck. and yet as he advances through the leagues and becomes a star goalie among players he still doesn’t feel like he’s made an improvement in who he is.

i think when the thing with rosemary starts he doesn’t think much about who he wants to be. he thinks it doesn’t matter when he’s with them, but as the feelings grow his thought process changes. how can he be enough for her? can he ever accomplish that? and his doubt only further solidifies the idea that they shouldn’t approach anything more than what they have, that as much as henry wants it, the possibility of using girlfriend or partner for rosemary was about nonexistent.

and it’s worse when he finds out they kissed ozzie. because ozzie’s always had it figured out. he’s known who he was meant to do and who he was meant to be. he’s every bit of a person that henry isn’t.
