tons of people of every shape and size who’ve had eds have heard at least someone say “if you think you’re fat, you must think i’m super fat!”
some notes to the people who say this garbage:
congrats for making someone else’s issue all about you
why would you try to guilt your friend for their eating disorder? if they’ve told you they have one, chances are that they already know it’s bad!!
most people with eds couldn’t care less if someone else is fat
even if they do think that, they literally have a mental illness - it’s not a rational thought, and unless they’re expressing this thought to you, you have absolutely zero right to get mad at them for it
THIS is what you say to someone when they trust you enough to tell you how much they’re struggling? really? a “thank you for trusting me. what do you need?” or a “let me help you find resources that might be helpful for you” are infinitely better responses
you may have your own body image issues, and if you do, i sincerely hope that you can get help for them, but pushing them off on someone else, especially when you know they’re struggling, is not okay
the end thank you for listening

You can’t live with an eating disorder.
You can survive. You can breathe and fake a smile and function, but you can’t live.
You can’t have fun, you can’t relax, you can’t enjoy food, you can’t succeed, you can’t dance, you can’t go to parties, you can’t do the things everyone else is doing, you can’t do the things you love, YOU CAN NOT LIVE.

stop accusing us of using our mental illness as a “crutch” when it’s the reason we can’t fucking walkÂ

it’s so important to remember that even though looking back on your eating disorder you might think “it wasn’t that bad” or “it was worth being skinny”, you don’t remember how bad it truly was. eating disorders can warp your perception and make you forget the pain you were in and only see how your body looked. i can guarantee you that going back there is a bad idea, and you are so much happier in recovery than you ever were or ever will be when overcome by an ed.

why does everyone make those relateable posts about depression meals and list stuff like, half a potato chip and forgetting eat but no one ever talks about the other half of people who overeat from depression? no one talks about gouging yourself with food the second you feel bad because somehow youre convinced food will make you feel better but it doesnt so you keep eating until it does? the weight gain? feeling sick from eating so much? eating an entire bag of chips and a whole carton of ice cream in one sitting without knowing it?? feeling even worse because youre making yourself so ill???
why does no one remember this symptom?

Making the decision to change your life is liberating. It’s like you can breathe for the first time. And when recovering, you make that decision every day.
