    𝐢𝐟  𝐡𝐞  𝐡𝐚𝐝  𝐠𝐨𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐧  𝐨𝐮𝐭  𝐨𝐟  𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞,   he  would  do  anything  to  make  sure  he  never  got  taken  back  into  custody.   he  would  have  gone  to  his  daughter  as  quickly  as  he  could  and  they  would  be  living  it  up  somewhere,  with  new  names  and  a  new  chance  at  life.   harley  had  gotten  out,  regardless  of  the  means  to  the  end  of  how  she  had.   yet  here  she  was  right  back  in  here  like    𝐧𝐨𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠   had  ever  happened.   like  the  clown  hadn't  broken  her  out  of  the  world's  toughest  prison  to  escape  from.   floyd  couldn't  even  begin  to  figure  out  exactly  why  he  felt  so    𝐟𝐫𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐫���𝐭𝐞𝐝   at  the  fact  that  she  had  found  herself  back  here,  he  had  to  tread  carefully  though  because  she  really  could  see  through  everything  and  he  didn't  need  to  have  her  poking  around  in  his  brain,  pulling  things  out  that  he  wasn't  ready  to  face.

    𝐚𝐭  𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐭  𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡  𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐥𝐞𝐲  𝐛𝐚𝐜𝐤  𝐨𝐧  𝐭𝐚𝐬𝐤  𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐜𝐞  𝐱,   he  had  one  person  willing  to  watch  his  back  and  someone  he  could  actually  trust.   they  had  always  worked  well  together  and  she  was    𝐮𝐧𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐩𝐩𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞   in  a  way  that  he  hadn't  seen  in  anyone  else.   floyd  tries  not  to  smile  as  she  seems  so  excited  about  the  thought  of  being  back  in  the  task  force  together,  she  was  adorable  sometimes  with  the  way  she  got  so  excited  about  the  things  that  most  people  didn't  think  look  at.   moving  over  to  his  trunk,  opening  it  up  and  avoiding  looking  at  her  as  he  replies,   "   it's  not  that,    "   floyd  doesn't  know  how  to  say  it  without  coming  across  like  he  cares  too  much.   does  he  care?   yes.   but  he  doesn't  need  her  to  know  just  how    𝐦𝐮𝐜𝐡   he  actually  cares.   it  wouldn't  mean  anything  to  her.   he  was  from  gotham,  he  knew  the  story,  he  knew  that  she  only  cared  about  one  person  who  would  never  care  about  her  in  the  same  way.   prison  breaks  be  damned.

    𝐫𝐞𝐦𝐨𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐠  𝐡𝐢𝐬  𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐫𝐭  𝐚𝐬  𝐡𝐞  𝐥𝐨𝐨𝐤𝐞𝐝  𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫  𝐚𝐭  𝐡𝐞𝐫,   knowing  he  had  absolutely  struck  a  nerve  with  the  way  her  tone  had  shifted  slightly.   the  clown  would  always  be  the  touchiest  of  all  subjects  and  he  knew  that.   the  clown  would  be  his  best  get  out  of  this  conversation  card,  but  he  needed  to  use  it  wisely,   "   you  don't  get  it,  do  ya?    "   floyd  asked,  pulling  more  of  his  things  out  of  his  trunk  as  he  tries  to  get  ready  himself.   he  knows  that  they  can't  go  into  a  mission  arguing,  people  would  be  looking  at  him  to  at  least    𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐝    the  team  and  if  he  was  bitching  with  harley,  he  wouldn't  be  focused.   pulling  on  his  shirt,  smoothing  it  out  as  he  turned  to  face  her  properly,   "   you  got  out.   you  were  free,  not  wandering  around  with  an  active  bomb  in  your  neck  and  you  could've  done  anything   .   .   .   and  yet  you  fucked  it  up,  ended  up  back  here.   was  this  really  the  better  option?    "   floyd  asked,  eyes  dark  as  he  looked  over  her  for  a  moment.   he  was  still  hiding  a  lot  of  how  he  really  felt  because  it  would  make  anything  better.   how  could  it?   she  probably  didn't  even  care  what  he  thought.   shaking  his  head,  running  a  hand  through  his  hair  as  he  sighed  softly,   "   you  got  a  chance  all  of  us  are  wishing  for.   you  wasted  it.   so  don't  be  expectin'  warm  welcomes,    "

      WELL,  HARLEY  SHOULD'VE  KNOWN  BETTER,  REALLY,  she  knew  this.  She  didn't  need  anyone  to  tell  her    ‘  they  told  her  so  ’  ...  and  if  they  did,  she'd  be  sure  to  rip  their  tongues  out  of  their  skulls.  Grizzly  murders  she  could  cope  with,  the  shame  of  being  emancipated  from  the  man  she  has  killed  for,  the  shame  of  begging  and  pleading  for  someone  that  thought  her  as  expendable,  that  she  could  not  handle.  The  bastard  didn't  even  do  it  himself    —    one  of  his  henchmen  tossed  her  out  of  the  house,  left  her  with  nothing  but  the  clothes  on  her  back  and  the  aliases  she  used.  From  everything  to  nothing  in  a  matter  of  seconds  had  her  feeling  as  if  she  had  finally  hit  rock  bottom.  Petty  thievery,  house  squatting,  anything  if  it  meant  keeping  herself  alive.  That's  not  to  say  she  didn't  think  about  the  possible  ways  to  redeem  herself;  to  show  she  was  more  than  just  a  pretty  face  and  brains.

      Except  ...  fuck  Mister  J.  Harley  decided  she  could  survive  on  her  own;    find  herself  after  sacrificing  all  sense  of  herself  in  the  name  of  love.  The  only  issue  that  she  had  was  the  loss  of  immunity  she  had  with  the  psychotic  bastard.  Their  split  hadn't  been  publicly  announced,  and  she  was  avoiding  it,  knowing  very  well  that  there  would  be  backlash.  Those  she  had  wrong  would  be  aiming  for  her  throat,  much  like  she  had  with  theirs.  So,  she  formulated  a  plan:    get  back  behind  bars.  Earn  herself  a  name  separate  from  the  Joker.  Reclaiming  Harley  Quinn.  The  birds  of  prey  had  helped,  gave  her  meaning  to  a  life  she  thought  was  anything  but  meaningful.  It  wasn't  enough,  would  anything  be  enough?

      Crashing  her  vehicle  into  a  bank,  she  was  arrested  and  charged  a  magnitude  of  crimes,  and  resulted  in  her  readmission  into  Belle  Reve.  Ah,  the  good  old  days  with  the  good  old  memories    —    she  knew  she  wouldn't  be  here  long.  One  mistake  was  all  it  took.  To  her  delight,  she  was  reassigned  back  into  Task  Force  X,  and  now  here  she  was,  reunited  with  an  old  friend.    “  Done  with  all  this?    Never!    Couldn't  leave  ya  behind  to  have  all  the  fun  now,  could  I?    ”    she  cackles.  With  a  skip  in  her  step,  she  follows  the  other  man  toward  the  room  which  held  their  belongings  for  their  newest  objective.  But  ...  something's  off.  The  tone  of  his  voice  and  his  words  gave  him  away,  and  her  eyes  narrow,  tilting  her  head.

      “  You  sound  disappointed.  You  ain't  happy  that  I  returned?  ”    Harley  pouts,  shuffling  to  her  own  trunk  that  held  her  belongings  in  it.  Thankfully,  with  her  streak  of  luck,  she  managed  to  get  her  hands  on  all  the  high  quality  shit.  Despite  that,  the  feeling  of  dread  that  her  former  accomplice  in  crime  no  longer  liked  her  was  beginning  to  irk  her.  Then  he  struck  a  nerve.  She  would  like  to  think  that  she  was  slowly  getting  seen  as  separate  from  the  Joker,  but  from  the  sounds  of  it,  that  wasn't  the  case.

      “  I  don't  need  Mister  J,  thank  you  ”    she  grumbles,  retrieving  the  fluorescent  coloured  clothes  out  from  the  trunk  and  glaring  over  her  shoulder.    “  What's  the  stick  up  the  ass  for,  huh?    Pissed  that  I  didn't  come  back  sooner?  ” she  pries,  it's  what  she  does  best.  If  Harley  didn't  get  an  answer  from  him  now,  she  knows  it'd  continue  to  bother  her  throughout  their  time  together.  Man,  this  fucking  sucked.
