time   :   1500   /   date   :   10.03.10   /   emergency session.

first initial notes ,  patient seems to be hyper focused on folding paper.  upon greeting there was no response or any indication that she was going to acknowledge another presence in the room.  trainee 0-0260 taught her origami as a calming practice ,  why does she seem on edge  ?  knuckles are bandaged and bruised ,  swollen.  there’s a cut along the top of her nose.   ***recorder turned on***

“    doctor tara majidi ,  date   :   october-third-two-thousand and ten.   patient is mia di salvo ,   trainee number 0-0261.  mia  ?  are you ready  ?   ”   nothing ,  no response.  just more silence as she continues to fold the small piece of paper.   “   are you okay  ?   ”   while still focused on how she was folding the paper   (   it requires practice ,  skill ,  dedication and focus   )   she emits a hum ,  something to get the doctor off her back while she finishes up the piece of origami.   “   do you know why you’re here today  ?   ”   another question ,  but this time there wasn’t a response ,  so there was a long pause till doctor majidi continued.   “   does beating your sparring partner close to death sound familiar  ?   ”   

therapist note   :   facial reaction ,  she smiles for a moment.  sign of enjoyment ,  pride  ?  she’s happy  ?  

another pause ,  short ,   “   you beat her so badly you dislocated her jaw.  he’ll have to keep his mouth wired shut until it’s healed.   ”   the doctor continues.  “   good.  that was plan ,   ”   finally mia speaks ,  though she still doesn’t switch her attention.  she’s almost done making the crane.   “   her mouth flaps too fuckin’ much.   ”  

“   care to elaborate  ?   ”

“   no.  i don’t   …   ”   her chest heaves while she takes a deep breath in.  the doctor continues to observe her patient ,  noting any signs of distress or anger.   “   besides ,  there’s not much to talk about.   ”

“   long or short ,  we’re concerned about your violent and explosive temper.  since you’ve become a trainee we have discussed your impulsiveness along with your aggressive behavior.  it seems like every time you make progress   …   which you have.  the next moment you’re taking two steps backward.  enforcer daniel’s informed vivian of your recent outburst against a fellow trainee.  it is the third time this month that you’ve had an altercation with someone mia.    ”

“   save the psychological bullshit.  you weren’t there and you don’t know what really happened.   ”   mia finishes the crane ,  gently fleshing out the corner’s before placing it in front of her.  she then leans back in her chair and crosses her arms ,  now she’s giving doctor majidi all of her attention.  she doesn’t want to be here ,  that much is clear.  to her ,  the whole event was simple and this whole emergency session was a waste of time.  when she could be training some more ,  she was stuck here   …   having to listen to the therapist start psychoanalyzing her every sentence and the motivations behind her actions.  IT’S A BUNCH OF UNNECESSARY BULLSHIT.  “   you’re right ,  i don’t know what happened between you and natalie and your explanation may be short.  but i want to hear your side of the story ,  it was a rather extreme reaction.  why couldn’t it have been solved more effectively  ?   ”   the patient rolls her eyes ,  sucking her teeth.  adjusting in her chair ,  “   jesus ,  mother mary and joesph.  because effectiveness wasn’t doing shit when someone is trying your fucking patience.  she kept poking the bear ,  she wanted to fight so i gave it to her.  end of story.   ”

tara then observes the defensiveness ,  and mia’s growing agitation.   “   so you were defending yourself  ?   ”   she asks ,  and then quickly mia responds ,   “   yeah i was defending myself.  but hey  !  girl get’s beaten to a bloody pulp and every one start’s cheerin’.  especially the guys ,  their testosterone just loves to see a fight against two girls.  so  ?  i put on a pretty good show.  yay me   …   ”   brows raise as her last words ,  smile briefly making another appearance.   “   did you like getting all that attention  ?   ”   mia’s eyes squint ,  drawing her tongue over the front of her teeth.   “   doc   …   i really wasn’t fuckin’ concerned about what everyone was doin’.  i was more focused on breaking natalie’s teeth in.  i really didn’t give a fuck.   ”

the other woman nods to the statement ,   “   so why did you want to beat up your fellow trainee  ?   ”   

“   because like i said ,  she was askin’ for it.  since day fuckin’ one that mouthy bitch with her fuckin’ holier than thou attitude and her arrogance          thinking she’s so fucking important.  if there was anyone who loved attention ,  it was natalie.  so ,  she thought why the fuck not try to make fun of me.  at first i ignored it and instead ,  did what i was meant to do.  spar.   ”   mia sighs and shakes her head ,   “   i’ve been made fun of before ,  bullied because my lips are full or because i was skinnier as a kid.  maybe she didn’t like that i was outshining her ,  you see ,  i’m outgoing ,  i’m fun ,  i’m charming ,   ”   she then grins ,  and a smile was now permanently fixed on her features.   “   i can take insults and shit because i don’t care what anyone thinks of me.  but when you cross a line ,  when you hit below the belt           ”   her hand extends and begins gesturing as she speaks.   “   it’s gloves off baby.   ”   her smile then fades ,  her expression becoming more serious and her jaw tightening.  thinking back to what was said to her during the time.  it was bringing back all that anger ,  that coldness and that rage.   “   it’s pretty much known that i lost my parents when i was a kid.  that i was in that plane accident and yet somehow survived.  so you wanna know what the bitch said to me  ?  she said ,  thank god your parents are dead.  because at least they wouldn’t see the pathetic ,  emo bitch you’ve become.  you should have died with them and saved us all from lookin’ at how pathetic you are.   ”   

mia ,  clearly getting angrier ,  she took a deep breath and let it out.   closing her eyes for a moment ,  waiting for the wave of emotions to pass or at least lessen.  when she could finally find the words to continue ,  she did ,   “   so that’s why ,   ”   eyes open ,   “   that’s why natalie is in medical with her mouth wired shut.  i don’t care what you call me or what you say about me.  tell me to die ,  i don’t care      i live out of spite.  but no one   …   no one makes light of what happened to my parents and think they can get away with it.   ”

meta   :   mia’s use of different languages.   PREFACE.  FLUENT LANGUAGES INCLUDE   :   ITALIAN ,   FRENCH ,   SPANISH ,   GERMAN  &  RUSSIAN.  PARTIALLY FLUENT IN   :   JAPANESE ,  CANTONESE,  ARABIC  &  LASTLY.  PASSABLE   (   A FEW WORDS  /  SENTENCES   )    LANGUAGES ARE GREEK  &  PORTUGUESE.

italian is like second nature.  both of mia’s parents were immigrants from florence ,  italy.  therefore she had learned the florentine dialect ,  a specific TUSCAN   /   ROMANCE language that can be distinguished from standardized italian.  though spending a few years in florence as a child ,  when she finally went to rome from florence.  there was a big difference between the florentine   /   tuscan italian and rome’s dialect known as the romanesco dialect.  there are many differences between the two and a tuscan/florantine cannot easily understand a romanesco dialect ,  and vice versa.  naturally ,  she had to re-learn a few terms to navigate and speak with other’s when she lived in rome as a kid to a teen.

though she knows italian perfectly ,  coming from new york   (   brooklyn to be exact   )   she has a slight TWIST to her accent.  which is fairly noticeable—     not to mention she speaks a lot with her hands as all italian’s do.

using different languages that aren’t italian or english.  she had to learn through training and even on her own.  it wasn’t required for her to learn every language but here were a few.  like japanese, german, greek and portugese that she learned on her own time.  japanese was sort of a special language to learn because she was taught by her friend  /  sister  /  team mate,  kazuki.  who was from kyoto japan before she was transferred to the u.s.  this doesn’t mean that every language she’s learned or tried to isn’t at all special to her.  it just had it’s own special little reason because it’s how she BONDED with kaz.  though it’s greatly encouraged that if someone is fluent in other languages that they teach her.  because honestly,  that’s sort of how it is when she learns from other people.  it’s like a bonding experience,  also she just wants to be RESPECTFUL if she’s ever in a different country.
