A soft purr emitted from the feline as it circled Xander, practically jumping into his hand with each pet. He was certainly an outgoing cat, seeming to think of himself as one of the dogs. Something about spending time with animals was calming for the knight.
Perhaps it offered him a sense of comfort knowing that something’s love was unconditional, simple, pure. If he didn’t come to the training grounds, he found himself here to cope with his own regrets. Especially when memories of his father would haunt him non-stop, always lingering only coming into full view when given quiet time. At this point he wished it would just leave him, maybe he doesn't deserve that. Humans are so complicated
He couldn’t find it himself to rest– not yet.
The comfort begins to slightly fade as he feels the presence of another nearby. It would be surprising to come across anyone aside from guards at this hour, it could be his own mind though he couldn’t allow himself to relax. Nevertheless his suspicions were soon confirmed upon hearing a lady’s voice
 A familiar one at that.
At this point he could no longer be surprised when encountering those he could recognize, he turned around to face her. Sure enough his eyes were met with a gentle face, bright blue hair illuminated by the moon as well a soft burning of a candle he kept nearby.
It’s the princess he always wished to know better,
the family he was kept away from,
Azura.
Though he wished to not be seen like this, it was already too late for that. “Oh, I was only making sure they were being taken care of... However, I must agree it is surprising to see another face at this hour, especially yours.” Is everyone here? It certainly felt that way. He offered a calm expression and something that almost resembled a smile, “It’s good to see you again.”

“There may be, especially considering the admittedly vague information we have now
It would be best to keep a sharp eye. Without first-hand experience nor concrete evidence we cannot yet be sure of what whoever is causing this is capital of.”
Her statement about black magic was a very real possibility, unfortunately that is not a subject he is as familiar with making it tougher to spot. Perhaps if Leo was here he would have a better idea on this. “Certainly, no doubt they wouldn’t be pleased with an army showing up here. It seems they would rather fight us from the shadows rather than flee.”
Xander offered a slight smile at her request, always so polite and even asking if she could come along. He can think of at least a couple siblings who would have brought themself whether he approved or not. “That is exactly why I’ve come here, actually. The people here should not have to live in fear due to some malefactors.”
Whether their testimonies were accurate or not, the piling reports of missing people around this place and even stretching into nearby towns is very real. Perhaps it is not truly his place to get involved, but it was this resigned nature that has caused so much suffering in his own homeland. Every choice you make affects lives in ways you'll never begin to realize.
“Your assistance is always welcome, Lady Sakura. Keep in mind this will be dangerous; however, I know you are strong and I do not doubt your capabilities.” He could tell that she was nervous around him. He knew of his siblings being from another world, he couldn’t help but wonder where she came from. In his own time they had fought side-by-side and vowed to keep peace. He knew this was a normal reaction for her, however it still itched the back of his mind. Though it was a strange place to encounter Sakura, he had not considered her intentions as being anything less than pure.
Hours passed as the knight prepared his army. Time felt like it had slowed down, anticipation creeping in the back of everyone’s mind. The day began growing dim, the sun was finally giving its farewells.

The first thing she did upon realizing it was over was return to her search for them. Her brothers, that weren’t with them during the attack, and didn’t end up at the bunker with them, whose location was unknown this whole time.
“Big brother
?” Elise freezes at the sight, one she hasn’t seen since even before the monastery fell. It’s been destroying her the whole time, knowing her brother was here this whole time, and she never even got a chance to say ‘hi’. Knowing she didn’t know what happened, that she might not get the chance again.
Xander’s strong. The strongest of them all. She knew that. But the possibility, and the guilt, haunted her every moment before now.
Heels click against stone, slowly at first, then rapidly pick up the pace.
“BIG BROTHER! XANDER!!!” The youngest royal launches herself at the oldest, clinging to him tightly like a lifeline. “I tried to— I couldn’t— I didn’t know— I looked everywhere, I— I’M SO GLAD YOU’RE OKAYYYY
” She sobs uncontrollably, barely able to get a word out as her grip gets tighter and tighter, if that’s even possible. “I’M SO SORRY, I’M THE WORST LITTLE SISTER EVERRR
”
Elise
Could it truly be? Something instinctive washed over the king upon hearing his little sister’s voice; he needed to see her. Please, please be unharmed.
She crashed into Xander, though his posture remained unwavering. Wrapping one arm around her as he delicately placed his other hand upon her hair, softly stroking it in an attempt to comfort her. She surely must have been through so much, if only he could have been there to protect her.
He’s so glad to finally see her– very grateful she’s still alive. It all had happened so suddenly– panic and hysteria completely overwhelmed the entire monastery. Xander barely had even a moment to react in such a situation, evacuating whoever he could save from the rubble while knowing full well his family was somewhere unknown. Forced to put trust in his siblings’ survival was nothing short of gut wrenching though he refused to show it.
Now more than ever Elise needs him to be that unbreakable pillar.
“Were you at all injured? I’m so glad to see you too
You should not blame yourself nor feel guilty; none of us could have known this would happen! You did the right thing by prioritizing survival. There have already been too many lives lost from trying to look out for mine... More than anything I'm just glad that you're safe now.”
Seeing herself as ‘the worst little sister ever’ rang ironic to the knight, someone who brings so much light into his life could never be ‘the worst’ in anything.

Who would do such an irresponsible thing? Surely one of the pupils had stolen his documents on this exam. His eyes are set on his class, particularly an unexpected new student to his seminars, Yuzu. By that look on her face as well body composure, he had an itching suspicion that her mind was wandering elsewhere. It would be ridiculous to immediately throw accusations, despite this, he will investigate this further.
The professor called out her name, all the other students gathering their supplies and leaving class without much of a word. “Indeed, I do.” By that look on her face he could tell she was nervous, this was far from an uncommon experience for Xander. Even so, one cannot rule out the reasoning behind this.
“A moment of your time, please.” He started, a stern stare full of conviction painting his face. “Earlier, I could not help but notice some of my exam papers went missing. Now do keep in mind I always sort my work carefully, something of such great importance would never simply get lost.”
“It is quite an intriguing coincidence that you suddenly decided to attend one of my seminars almost immediately after this happened. Especially considering I do not recall you ever taking this class or signing up to it. I am not saying you are guilty; perhaps there was a mix-up or information never reached me. This academy has a way with surprises.”
“However! If you do know anything of this incident, it would be wise to inform me now rather than regretting it later.”

Though they were not of The Black Eagles house, Xander wished to remain vigilant. He should at least take note of the names belonging to students within other classes. Surely this will serve him well in the future.
Soon, he reached a particularly interesting name inside the list of Blue Lions students
Kamui. He paused looking at it– reviewing over its contents to make sure he was reading correctly. That name belongs to someone he knew well. His dear little prince; a star that shines full of stubborn resolve, his brother.
Xander blinked at the page– it is entirely possible this could be a coincidence but
At the same time his other siblings were here too, so was much of the Hoshidan family. It would only make sense.
If this truly is him, that would mean he decided to go by his original name. The one Xander had been forbidden to speak of but never forgot. It reminded him of a wounded, alone, cowering child he met long ago. The person he spent years pouring so much of himself into because he couldn’t bear the idea of letting him suffer so horribly again.
His mind began to trail off, full of memories.
To think for so long he played into a senseless lie, pathetically hoping that his father had only caused so much harm for the greater good. Ever since being faced with this horrid reality that he had been obediently following a puppet... A mere toy created by a beast from his dad's corpse...
It clung to the back of Xander's mind like a leech– affecting him in ways he couldn't begin to describe. Surely this will haunt him for the rest of his days, hell, he hopes it does. He deserves a worse punishment, he only has himself to blame!
If he hadn’t been in such denial maybe he would be a brother more worthy of his siblings, one that wouldn’t harm his own kin. As the oldest protecting his family should have always been his top priority from the beginning! And yet he failed them in so so so many unforgivable and heinous ways. He yearned deeply to say that his worst actions were done for the sake of his country, but no. It was fear that drove him
The thought makes his blood boil.
That– doesn’t matter right now, what matters is finding out if this Kamui is his brother as he suspects. If he truly wishes to better himself then lingering on the past will do no favors. Setting aside his reading glasses atop his desk, Xander made the resolve to search for him.
It didn’t take long for the professor to get a hint on this student’s location, actually all he had to do was ask one of the guards. Xander rushed through the monastery, only slowing down once reaching the greenhouse. He didn’t know how long it had been or if the student still remained inside, there is only one way to find out. He opened the door as it gave a quiet creek.
There he stood; right near the entrance, no mistaking that unwieldy bright hair. Kamui really is here, Xander heard nothing of it from his other siblings. Though, something is obviously very wrong
Paralyzed, Kamui stared at him with wide eyes, a face full of complete and utter shock.
The knight wasn’t sure how to react to this, slowly closing the door behind him as he entered. Making sure not to get too close.
“Brother?” Marx spoke softly as if he felt concerned of scaring him away. Judging by his reaction, there is no way this is the same Kamui from his own world. Right now, he needs to be gentle. “It is wonderful to see you here little prince, honestly I hadn’t expected your presence within this academy I–”
...
“I hope that you're okay.”

Xander stood quietly listening, allowing Laslow the chance to explain himself. So, it was just as he suspected. He exhaled with a prick of frustration,
“Laslow. I couldn’t count the sheer amount of times we’ve had this conversation, I take it you already know what I would say. However, this time is different. You are staff of this monastery; and you are a professor. Please consider the influence you have on your students. You may not realize it but they are attentive, they look up to you for guidance.”
“Within Fódlan my title as king holds little to no weight– most residing here who weren’t already aware of me do not know of my status. Here we are teachers first and foremost, we are equals. Still! As your friend, I urge you to do better than this. I understand that you have many duties you must attend. So this time I will forgive you.”
He paused from his rant, stepping closer to his colleague. Xander’s face fixed on with a cold, foreboding expression. “Heed my warning. If I catch you doing this again, I will take action into my own hands. Understood?” No matter what his title may be, he will always watch over those he cares about.
Underneath his sharp exterior the king felt an air of paranoia pass over him. One of these days, Laslow’s sheer desperation for romance will catch him in a dangerous situation. He could so easily be tricked or led away by just about any girl willing to tolerate him for more than five minutes. Perhaps he wouldn’t worry so much if he hadn’t gone through the loss of his retainers before. He can't do this again.
Ah- he dispelled those thoughts before they truly took hold of the knight. Just about anything could happen but living in fear will only bring further harm.
“Now, I’m certain you wish for the chance to clean yourself. I will leave you to it.”

Her steps are wobbly as she approaches, the half finished drink not her first of the night. It's a coin toss if Xander will lecture her about it, but if she remains composed enough, Camilla figured he wouldn't mind.
"Happy new year Xander!" She placed a kiss on her older brother's cheek. "It's so wonderful with us all together. I hope the new year brings good things for us."
“Ah, Camilla!” Xander couldn’t help but feel concern for his sister, her lack of balance certainly did no favors. He squinted, “Tell me, are you aware of how much you've been drinking? Do you need anything, perhaps somewhere to sit down?”
Holiday or not he wasn’t exactly comfortable with her wandering around aimlessly while drunk. However this holiday in particular is special, it's not only a celebration of the future but to appreciate past endeavors as well. Making it through another year was an achievement worthy of jubilation.
Perhaps he should bring his worries a tone down, at least for tonight. “My apologies, I know you are more than capable of handling yourself.” He tried to cast away those doubts– for now, and trust her.
Oh– He couldn’t help but grin, letting out a small laugh from her kiss. “Well, it’s good to see you too. Happy new year, it seems you've been having fun. I’m glad to see it.” She had always been braver than him when it came to showing one’s care. If he wasn’t so terrible at physical affection any affection he would offer something sweet in return. Perhaps a hug, or a moment of holding hands.
“I couldn’t have said it better myself. I’m sure much is to come, honestly I hadn’t expected so many of us to be here. It's certainly a pleasant surprise.” He stated, still mulling over his previous thoughts.
Ironic how growing up he was always told to keep a certain distance in order to remain strong, yet now he can't help but see it as one of his greatest weaknesses

No.
Is that not part of this holiday? To find ways to build towards improving yourself? She had always made initiating acts of endearment look easy. Though never speaking of it out loud; a part of Marx wished to learn how.
Strangers and acquaintances are one thing; they didn't need anything more than his stoic outside. But this is his family, trying to keep distance has done nothing but make him live with more regrets.
Loving is a double edged sword, it’s something you cannot control. Better to appreciate those in your life now than to live wishing you could have shown them how much you care.
No more excuses! He's going to try and show appreciation! Surely a hug would do.

Yet

His body refused to move from its usual stance. No matter how much he told himself to do something it wouldn’t work. It was as if his mind was completely disconnected from everything else.
It's frustrating– very frustrating. This should be simple, he shouldn’t even have to think about it this much!
Everything feels so far beyond his control, the moment turned into awkward silence. He wanted to do better and yet it was already too late. He didn’t wish to think this way; however perhaps he’s too broken. Maybe next time.
“I hope this night treats you well.” He masked his own disappointment in himself, brushing it under the rug. “I know it’s already been said but I really am pleased to see you. It is always nice to spend time together.”

The professor’s mind raced upon hearing Ryoma's assumption, he would never play into any of this holiday mischief! “I– of course not! That would be wildly inappropriate. I wasn’t expecting a mistletoe to be here of all places.” Xander retorted, trying (and failing) not to fluster from the trap he’s ensnared himself within. Underneath the surface he could feel a cold bitterness emanating from Ryoma’s words. Everything about his composure screamed distaste; beyond that his usual spark had drained from his eyes.
So much for attempting to relax; perhaps it is too dangerous to fully let his guard down, even when bathing. He didn’t wish to fight
Yet by the look on Ryoma’s face– he tensed.
Setting aside the sheer absurdity of this situation, Xander couldn’t help but think to himself. After all he’s done
It was true, he had committed terrible atrocities throughout his life. Originating from the same world or not, he doesn’t deserve nor expect forgiveness. However; he will never repeat those same mistakes. No matter if Ryoma hates him, Xander refuses to be his enemy, not again.
Maybe there is a way to defuse or at least not escalate these circumstances any further– he certainly hoped so, though that may be a distant dream.
“I see you’re upset by my presence, if you wish I will leave you be. I’m sorry if I have disrupted your time alone here...”
With no context, he didn’t know what else to say or do. He could take an educated guess as to what happened, but it was best to remain silent until he truly understood. Surely here couldn't be the right place to air such grievances, especially when neither had been aware of the other prior to this moment. It felt as if he was walking blindfolded on a thin layer of ice– given the weight of his presence it was only a matter of time before it would collapse.

As the festivities sweep across Garreg Mach, one member of the Black Eagles House finds herself partaking in a time-honored tradition—one that celebrates the warmth of camaraderie and the strengthening of bonds. A time to forget about the barriers of status that divide, and to embrace all that brings people together.
“professor xander~!” dorothea calls out in a sing-song voice, barely making any effort to conceal the mirth dancing in her eyes. “just a minute of your time.  i’ve been meaning to tell you that i’m enjoying your seminars. somehow, you make sword fighting look so easy and refined.” she extends a gift bag with a subtle flourish, its deep crimson coloring reminiscent of their banner. “anyway, i come not as your student, but as a festive envoy~! this is for you.
inside, he will find a small box of marzipan candies—delicately molded into whimsical shapes. nestled beside them is a snow globe ornament; a fragile, dainty thing containing miniature snow-dusted trees. “may you have a lovely holiday~!”
Her light cheery tone is infectious with joy. Even in the dullest of days Xander’s eyes lit up upon hearing any of his students' speak, Dorothea in particular always found a way to bring life to wherever she went. Though he has always been one to keep distance; he takes great pride in any of their achievements, especially if he was able to assist in teaching them.
Status has never been something that affected his personal views on his pupils, in fact being royalty in the first place was something he seldom ever spoke of within the monastery. It was not a deeply kept secret, he had heard of rumors spreading. However, his duties as a professor are of great importance to him. He wished to be treated as one first and foremost without interference.
“Ah, Dorothea! It is good to see you.” He couldn’t help but smile at her enthusiasm, it’s wonderful seeing everyone in such high spirits for the holidays.
He listened to her carefully before– ah, a gift? He took a moment to peek inside the little red bag. Xander felt warmth like a fresh cup of cocoa heat up inside him, what an adorable arrangement of sweets. He would make sure to cherish the lovely snow globe ornament too, it sparkled with bright colors. Just seeing her beaming was a gift all in itself as well, it’s wonderful how the festivities are able to bring so many people together.
“Well, how thoughtful of you! I appreciate your kindness, thank you very much.” He hoped that his gratitude was properly expressed. The knight had always struggled with showing emotion, despite this for the sake of his student he’d certainly try.
“I’m happy that you think so. You’re already quite capable as well as a great student, I am certain with time and diligence you will flourish those strengths and achieve incredible things.”

🎄 puts a dog in your path
The clock struck its first signs of dawn not long ago. Xander walked through the old stone paths giving a hearty thunk, heading straight towards the mess halls has grown into a morning routine. He needed to give himself the proper energy to get through another long day at work after all. It was then he spotted something

A wolf? No, there was no reason for such a social and wild creature to find itself alone in these walls of the monastery of all places. This has to be a dog, however he had never seen one that looks so huge and powerful before.
By his body language Xander couldn’t entirely tell what he was thinking or if he was friendly, he decided to give him the benefit of doubt despite that. With it being so early there was no one to witness his attempts at friendship– good, the knight took his chances choosing to sit. The ground is freezing and uncomfortable, however in order to show that he was no threat he is willing to make that sacrifice.
Marx made an attempt to beckon the animal closer. “Good morning friend,” he spoke softly, slowly offering his hand. He hoped that he wasn't frightened. The professor fully intends on scrapping his morning routines in order to pet this dog.

“Ah, apologies Mikoto... It was merely a habit I’ve grown used to. You are correct though; if you wish, you may drop the formalities with me as well.” Truthfully it felt odd for him to speak with her in a more toned down manner, but that was just a piece of him gripping onto the past. Where they are now, is allies in the mud of a dire situation.
Xander did his best to pull himself together– fighting past the pain as it slipped into the rear of his mind.
He flinched slightly at her unexpected gentle contact, he couldn't remember the last time anyone has done that. “No, I’ll be okay. Thank you.” He’d always find himself denying help from those he was nervous around, as if the knight could afford to let any sort of vulnerability show in the first place. Not when this group relies on him to keep a steady stance more than ever.
“It would be best to search for them, in such a panic they could easily end up lost or hurt. However, we must remain on guard and diligent. If something terrified a group of animals that intensely, let alone properly trained ones then we are not alone. It could be a big predator or worse.”
This whole situation must have happened for a good reason, he’s sure of it.
Xander stepped forward as his features furrowed. He commanded the group; he told them to follow close behind and to not lose sight of each other, as well keep an eye out for anything strange or their lost steeds. Though most of them were still shaken up, they followed his orders. It wouldn’t do good to stand idle in the cold mountains.
Bits of grass and snow crunched on the ground beneath them as they passed many trees bare of leaves. Xander couldn’t shake the feeling that something was incredibly wrong; was he paranoid? No, his horse has never acted like that before. The fog certainly didn’t help either, this whole place is cursed.
He wondered how Mikoto was fairing. He glanced as she walked near his side, from what Xander knew of her that calm demeanor never seemed to falter. Though he felt guilty for the current circumstances he was grateful to have her present. He may have only known her through stories told, however from their short interactions she appeared to live up to them. She had been nothing but kind to him; he couldn't help but appreciate it.
Suddenly, a loud piercing squeal broke through the sounds of wind. It was one of the horses– Xander quickly followed suit. It must be nearby. “Come, remember to stay close together!” He instructed, one of the knights muttered something under their breath in response though it couldn’t be heard clearly. For now, Xander chose to ignore it.
There it stood, a steed tugging its hoof lodged stuck in a branch. The creature is utterly stricken with terror, its sounds were tired and full of despair.

This group of bandits never stood a chance– though Xander hadn’t anticipated the sheer force and speed given from his unexpected ally. He had barely gotten a chance to draw his blade before the fight was already over, this is why every moment is precious.
“Impressive, I take it you’re here in search of the bandits whereabouts as well?” He stated, apathetic towards the monstrosity that took place. The knight's judgment of someone would usually shift quickest through the trial of battle. This man is fierce and unforgiving, he would certainly be a valuable partner in his hunt. He knew the job was far from over; however this group is the first real sign he’s had in awhile, their base may be close.
Mulling over it, he realized the majority of enemies came from the right of him. They could potentially have been on patrol for some time, still this offers a good sense of direction. Considering their amateur performance, Xander thought about the fact they may have shoved their weakest grunts out to die first by the hands of any army properly trained.
This bunch was capable of a robbery at most, not the destruction of an entire village. What a pathetic action led by the most low of people– of course they would purposely sacrifice members of their own group just so they wouldn’t have to face the front lines of danger.
Upon further investigation, something made its debut within the tall grass and bushes. There, a fox lay lifeless in the dirt, a flimsy wooden arrow pierced right through its side. Could they have been hunting for food? This was the confirmation he needed. They are not going to get away, Xander will make sure of it.
“This way, I'm sure of it.” He beckoned the other man to follow– they have to keep moving. He presumed that they were in this together now.

🎄 - look i'm not asking them to kiss exactly but i think putting these two in this situation is incredibly funny
The air was muggy, warm. Waters steamed calmly in the bathhouse; sunlight welcoming itself through the glass windows. Normally Xander would try to make any visits to this place a quick endeavor. Yet by the suggestion of his loved ones the king was going to try and attempt to ‘relax’ it was for his own good after all.
His sights caught the vision of someone all too familiar, long thick brown locks of hair adorned on a man who’s mere presence screamed for his attention. That look on his face was far too intense to be friendly, he knew of it well back during the war. Ryoma stood directly in his path, Xander stood in his.
Without even so much as words Xander felt like he was being transported back in time, why did he seem so displeased? Ah, right– the knight recalled the fact that many people from completely different worlds currently lived within The Officers Academy. Yet this was still so tough getting used to the moment he bumped into any sort of familiar face. Perhaps this man in front of him had a much more sour relationship with the Nohrian royal.
“Ryoma?” Xander felt uneasy, something about that resentful look in his eyes told him that he wasn’t welcome here. He didn’t know what to even say, maybe he was misinterpreting this entire situation and overreacting. It felt as if no matter the circumstances their paths would always cross
Even in the bathhouse of all places
??? Perhaps he shouldn’t be surprised, other Hoshidan royals resided in this monastery as well. Even beyond everything else– something glittered a bright lively green hung overhead the entrance. A cursed, evil, repulsive, mistletoe. Are you serious... Oh this was awful– he was practically ready to walk away without saying anything else.

🎄
A knock rang through Professor Soren’s class, the room currently lying empty of students. Xander didn’t know Soren well, despite that fact, something about the mage drew his attention. Perhaps it was the fact that the two of them were often seen as stoic, sometimes even intimidating. He knew something so far as friendship was a long shot, but he still wished to build a good relationship with him. Back at home genuinely socializing with people outside of his circle was something rarely done, Xander had little clue what exactly he was doing. That didn’t stop him from at least trying.
With how frigid the weather had turned he figured it may be a kind gesture to bring him some sort of warm beverage. Temperate heat emanated from the cup giving a comforting sensation– tea was the safest option. Perhaps he should have simply asked beforehand, though that may be awkward and there was a good chance the mage would simply turn down his offer. Such a gesture would normally be strange coming from him, however, it was the holidays and it was customary to treat those around you kindly during this time of year.
The royal creaked open the door, meeting the other’s gaze. “Ah, greetings Professor Soren. I do hope today has treated you fairly.” Xander awkwardly entered the room, “I do not intend on taking up too much of your time, I understand that you’re busy. I simply desired to offer you a warm cup of tea– and give you my well wishes for the holidays.” He set down the cup gently upon Soren’s desk before instinctively bowing.
Something sparkled in the corner of his view, he glanced. There it was, that bright evil plant that has been troubling members of the monastery! It menacingly loomed above them. Lately, a mischievous bunch had been laying out mistletoes all over the place. This was NOT funny, he had no idea how anyone could find amusement in putting others in such awkward situations. He took mental note to hunt down the instigators of such an act.
Xander decided that it was best to pretend his eyes never landed on that festive devil in the first place. Though he didn’t wish to disrespect their tradition, he was not about to sour this interaction with something as utterly insane as a kiss.

Xander noticing the other professor’s behavior he motioned for the students that stood close behind him to stay quiet. If he wasn’t in the company of young pupils to protect he may have tried to sneak a little closer– just enough to help when things got nasty. He knew something was off, that all too familiar rush within the battlefield has been clawing at him ever since they set off.
Truthfully he didn’t know what was a ‘normal’ way to treat students, his father had been cursed for so long this was the kind of situation he was accustomed to being thrown in. However, he is still aware of how wrong and dangerous it is to put students in such a terrible wasp nest of a situation.
An unnatural crackle gurgled, its echo could be heard coming all the way from the cabin. One of the students shuttered in fear; all of them clearly distressed by the unsettling groan. “Try to keep your composer.” The professor muttered softly, the chill wind swirled from his breath. There was no denying there was some sort of beast in that broken down building, at least whatever it was didn’t seem to notice Soren sneaking up for an attack.
Something felt wrong; more than the situation in front of them, yet he couldn’t entirely pinpoint what. He didn’t want to take his eyes off Professor Soren or the students but he needed to at least steal a moment to check.
The knight turned, eyes darting around the town not far behind him. Buildings lay eerily barren, he wondered if anyone truly even still lived in this town. Nothing felt inhabited– Xander’s blood ran cold. There it was, its massive body contorting in unnatural ways atop the roof in a stealthy prowl. Even from a distance; its dead white eyes were locked on Xander’s, both of them were in a motionless standoff.
It wasn’t alone.
If he moved, surely it’d begin its assault.
